Triumph Street Triple RS | The Gentleman's Naked Motorcycle

- The Triumph Street Triple RS, a middle weight naked motorcycle. A review and ride to get to know the Street Triple RS, is it the gentleman's naked motorcycle?
With competition like the Yamaha MT-09 and the 2022 KTM 890 Duke R, the Street Triple RS is priced in the middle of the naked motorcycle market. However with its triple engine and Triumph build quality, it feels like a more composed and sensible ride than the other naked's. A fast naked motorcycle, but with a touch of class for the gentleman rider!

I have a red 765S (2018) with QS. What a hoot, lovely bike.
👌 nice colour, bet it looks great! They are great fun and much faster than I was expecting.
brought mine in 2022 had bigger bikes then test rode one of these and that was it had to have one best year on a bike so much fun and that sound when on song is so sweet
👍 Just proves bigger isn't always better! It is such a great bike for the road. Enjoy
Love this bike, it’s my current dream bike, and a great colour scheme. Great review too.
Hi Rob, many thanks I appreciate it and great to hear you liked the review 👍 A great bike, and yes I think the colour scheme is brilliant. Love the yellow on black! You can find some good second hand deals now!!
So jealous of you, love the street triple.
This could well be my next motorcycle after the tiger 660 sport. Great review as always Redang , ride safe 👍 👏 👌 😀.
Hi Gary, many thanks 👍 A definite step up in power and performance to the 660 Sport! It is a premium and grown up motorcycle, that triple is lovely!!
Good Review.
I have the RS( in that colour scheme too) but also have a superduke. They are totally different. The RS you can stick in 3rd gear and rev it out - so much fun!!
I really don’t have a preference between Twin & Triple hence having both 😄
Thanks Matt, I appreciate it and glad you enjoyed the review 👍 Very well said, it is hard to prefer one or the other. Simple solution, get both haha. Cheers
You certainly know your facts and figures Angus
Well I'm a cruiser rider and that ain't gonna change.. so modern bikes don't really appeal but I can appreciate the change.
Love watching you go places!
Cheers Angus
👍 Can definitely read the spec sheet!! Haha.
For sure this will not be a bike for you then. I am planning a weekend trip away in the UK sometime soon, itching to go exploring again.
Cheers

You go for it Angus..life's an adventure, a journey..make the most of it! :-))
🙌🙌 Another fantastic quote my friend. Thanks 😁
I've always been a Yamaha fan boy but, I have a cousin who swears by triumph.. she's owned a bobber and now a 1200 Bonneville and I must say, they are quality bikes... safe to say I plan to buy my first Speed Triple this year.
👌 you won't regret it
Naughty but nice ...but sadly at 6'4'' and no longer 21 my body isn't meant for a bike like this 😕.... Gotta say Angus yr reviews are getting better and better , love yr channel and all it stands for 👍
👌 Absolutely, well put! It is a nice friendly bike until you take the revs up and then it really comes alive. Much faster than I was expecting. Definitely a sporty number and not designed for comfort!!
Many thanks that is great to hear I appreciate it. Trying to improve with every review. Cheers
Know what you mean regarding a twin v triple. I've tested a speed triple 1200rs and the tiger 1200, loved them, but when I hopped back on my speed twin, it just seemed more playful, not so serious. Maybe I should try the street triple. I watched your video on the speed twin and agreed with you alot, the game changer was changing the tires to sport touring Bridgestone t32's. It honestly transforms the ride. Keep up the good work, cheers from NZ.
Hi Julian, good to hear that you see what I mean 👍 The Twins do have such a great charm and power delivery about them. No need to go crazy chasing the power, more of a relaxing ride. I have recently just ridden the Triumph Trident 660, stunning bike and triple engine! Highly recommend it.
Many thanks and all the best. Cheers
I have the 2023 (carbon black). It's such a wonderful bike. It should absolutely be enough for anyone on the street. I have a couple videos from some windy mountain roads in Miraflores, right outside of Madrid. The bike has hustle and you don't need to search for its powerband. It just wants to go.
👍 It is much livelier than I was expecting! A serious performance bike with plenty of power for road use. Enjoy your ride
I test drove this yesterday along with the Mt-09sp. I think your review is spot on. I felt the vibrations in the bars as well. STRS was less punchy than the mt09sp but it was smooth and felt calculated. When you said it was less manic than the mt09sp I was like that said perfectly. The STRS sits more aggressive and puts pressure on wrists more than the mt09sp. The mt09sp felt more comfortable for me and had the fun factor. I’m 6’5” and 220 lbs and both bikes fit well but the MT09sp fit much better. When I think about the STRS, I think you’re right on with it being a “Gentleman’s bike”. It’s refined and mature. Solid in the turns and has predictable output. It’s a very accurate way to describe the STRS - “The Gentleman’s Bike”. Great review! +sub
Hi Jason, thanks really glad you liked the review and agree with my points 👍 It does have that more mature and refined riding style about it. Absolutely the Gentleman's bike! Cheers
Being me, I need sensible "calm down Doris" sorts of bikes but I was going to say, it sounds a bit naughty to me but you said that at the end too 😂 And I know you'll guess I'm going to say, I prefer a round headlight, with a grille. Quality review.
Well said, it is a naughty bike this when you rev it out. I still think the Trident would suit you really well 👍 This is a very sporty ride and feels much faster than the figures suggest. Thanks and all best
Hope you are doing well and yes, still smitten with the Trident.👍🏻
@@lilynorthover8378 OK thanks, cutting down my meds again, so bit rough! Hoping will get better soon
Go up, go down, you'll find the sweet spot that works for you. A wise doctor said to me, you know yourself better than anyone else and if sometimes it's a little too hard, take more for a while. You don't fail, you're just being good to yourself. And I'm saying, this too shall pass. You're a good person Angus, believe it. No one else matters.😊
@@lilynorthover8378 🙌 Thanks Lily, I appreciate that. Wise words that I shall remember. Cheers
I love my street triple my last bike was a 17 FZ 10 too much torque for the street in my opinion. Great vid 👌 and may I ask what jacket that is you have? I've been looking for a new one just haven't found one I like so much yet.
👍 It is a great balance of power for the road. One of if not the best middle weight naked!
Yes it is a Merlin Chigwell Light, great summer mesh jacket.
@@redangrevival thanks! I installed an SC Project CR-T slip on on mine it sounds brilliantly delightfull and has that throaty triple sound.
@@mikem4371 👌 I bet it does, love the purr of a triple engine!
Great video! I have a 2022 Street Triple 765 RS, just had it a week so far.
May I ask what make your jacket is, it's a nice design and I was curious if they did lady's clothing?
Also that little bag on the bars is really neat, would love to know where I could get one.
Thanks so much I appreciate it. Yup its a Merlin Chigwell Light, great mesh summer jacket.
The bag I actually got from a shop called Halford in the UK. Its meant for bicycles, but fits great on most motorbikes
A 🍑 peach! Something about a Triumph Triple!
They really are so special, this is a mega exciting engine 😁
Angus, How many times can you say grown up or linear? The triple is just a different engine to a twin eg KTM.
When I rode the Street Triple RS last year, I found it just too manic. It comes alive above about 8.5-9k revs, but below it felt quite flat. I think the RS has Ohlins suspension as well as Brembo brakes but I might be wrong. Not a fan of the colours on this bike. The yellow stripes just seem like an after thought to break up the grey/black and not a good choice imho. The red is better and the white bikes look the business.
Anyway I felt it was too manic and flighty. I much preferred the 1050 Speed Triple RS with a lot more low down torque and feels totally planted on the road. Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, QS and cruise control. I rode the newer Speed Triple 1200RS and felt this was like the Street Triple RS on steroids.
I have never ridden a Yamaha let alone an MT07 or indeed the MT09. I think you should really be comparing this Street Triple RS with the SP versions from Yamaha so the MT09 SP. But I might be wrong. In any case, Yamaha has given them that awful dated 1980s LCD dash.
I rode a KTM 890 Duke last year along with the Beast 1290 SDR 3.0, such awesome bikes, but didn't go with either despite loving them owing to question marks over KTM's long term reliability and customer service, eg engine oil leaks, camshaft wear, KTM difficult to deal with but my local KTM dealer is great.
So got the older 1050 Speed Triple RS instead with just over 1k miles on the clock and love it. The triple engine with the QS/blipper is so smooth and addictive to ride. I felt the newer 1200RS was like the Street Triple RS far too manic and you have to rev it hard to get it to go by which time you were into life and license losing speed territory on the roads, I mean totally bonkers speeds. Plus the suspension was REALLY firm. Slightly off topic as you are riding and reviewing the Street Triple RS here, but the 1200 Speed Triple RS felt to me like it didn't have as much low down usable torque/grunt as the previous gen 1050 Speed RS which I can ride all day. I don' think I could ride this Street Triple RS all day. After an hour I was ready to get off the demo one I rode which I had for a very generous half a day.
Anyway nice review.
Many thanks.
Yes I did make the most of those descriptive words!! They just roll off of the tongue.
I know exactly what you mean, I think that is why I felt it to be pretty intense in higher rev range. It is a lot faster than I was expecting it to be. See what you mean, more torque lower down would be nice, sounds like I need to try out the 1050 Speed Triple to feel the difference in power delivery.
Yes it is more comparable to the MT-09SP but I just have not ridden that yet. I just so happened to have recently ridden the MT-07. I think the pick of the bunch will be the KTM 890 Duke R 😁 Very much looking forward to getting a ride on that. Glad you enjoyed the review. Cheers and all the best.
My problem is STRS comes with better specs than the mt09 sp (the sp cost more yet has cheaper brakes and plastic brake lines) but im paying more granted the mt09 sp has more cc like 82 more.
Could get a used low mile (8k-10k) STRS for about £6,500-£7,000(7k being MAX)
Admittedly i could find a mt09 sp
At around 1k-10k miles for 7,300-8,000.
I do like the sound of the MT09 SP. Am yet to ride one but think it maybe a more exciting ride. Not the same build quality as the Triumph though. Can imagine it is great value for money.
Ok Angus Im gonna go for a change next year at some point when my ducks are in a row I have two bikes in mind completely different and this will be my last, "I would think" not sure how Im gonna do it but here is the rub you have ridden both A, this street triple 765 or B, the Harley 117 low rider S what would you choose having ridden both . Good one and some interesting comparisons like it .My ride is my ride of course but always interesting to get others opinions too 👌👍
An interesting one, they are just so completely different bikes!! Money aside I would have the Harley Low Rider S 👍 Just such a special occasion every time you ride it, you will be hard to find an engine and a bike with as much character/feel as the Low Rider S!!
Also if you ever wanted to go touring then the Low Rider will be much more comfortable. Of course it is a much more expensive bike, but if its going to be your last one 😁 (treat yourself). Cheers
@@redangrevival Well I thank you for your opinion and I am inclined to agree ,I also am thinking lifes to short so I will do whatever it takes to get one and I mean whatever as a last hurrah why the hell not when yer gone yer gone eh 👌
@@crumblymal8479 👏 Absolutely, if you can make it happen and you can get true enjoyment out of it. Go for it. No regrets! 🤙
I went duke 890 r.....it was close though
The torque from the twin and its a toy for me not a commuter sealed the deal
A good choice in my opinion 👍 I would choose the same.
Not sure which to get speed twin or the new street triple ?
Thank you
A tricky one! I think the street triple is more of a performance oriented ride and great fun. However the Speed Twin more stylish and nice useable low down torque delivery.
Think a test ride is in order 👍
@@redangrevival I've ridden both and still can't decide.
I think the tech on offer with the street is making me feel it's better value but if you don't need it the speed is way more stylish
@@redangrevival thank you
😃👍👍👍😃
👌👍👌
The previous generation 2018 street triple was a very sexy looking bike, the bigger headlight and it's shape in 2018-19 gave it more substance in the front, more character, combined with much better looking red & white stripes and better badging, matched with the matte black option, like it or hate it, street triple had a unique look in it's class, but this one here has lost all that, now it's just an unremarkable, average looking bike.
Fair enough, looks are so subjective! I like the looks of this one, not the best looking bike on the market but not bad! Cheers
Sorry had to stop watching after 2 mins as my OCD could not deal with the cuffs straps flapping, gloves not done up properly 🤣🤣
haha apologies for that! Perhaps try watching all the way through, may be good training for your OCD!! 😉
@@redangrevival I have now watched it to the end, very good video, I like your style of presenting, much better than the monotone boring lot out there at the moment or the over-excitable lot. Keep it up, now a subscriber :)
@@RichardMeyerowitz 👍 Thanks so much I appreciate it. Really glad you enjoyed the video and could stick with it (despite the flappy gloves)
Cheers
Mt 07 motor boring, Street triple rs more fun and exciting🤙🔥🔥and faster🤘
Yup the Street Triple RS is much faster and more exciting I agree 👍
Front end is hideous 🤮🤮🤮
Haha fair enough! Each to their own I suppose. I really like the looks.
I so wish that Triumph offered an option with a half fairing similar to the Speed RR.
Nevertheless, this is still my choice of bike to replace my Ninja 400 when I am competent enough on track. Quality suspension and brakes. Just needs a tail tidy, radiator guard and crash bungs. This makes it into what I consider to be the perfect track bike for me but also very capable of riding with friends on the road.
@@G100666 That would be a brilliant bike 👌 Think I would buy one!!
