In 2023, California rolled out its Heavy-Duty Inspection and Maintenance (HD I/M) regulation, targeting polluting heavy-duty vehicles. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) aims to combat on-road NOx and PM 2.5 emissions by implementing the Clean Truck Check program.
🔧 What is Clean Truck Check?
This program ensures that heavy-duty vehicles in California are well-maintained, and repaired promptly when needed, and creates a fair playing field for businesses. It utilizes roadside emissions monitoring, improved testing procedures, and compliance verification, projecting significant emissions reductions by 2037.
    🚚 Who's In and Who's Out?
Nearly all diesel and alternative fuel heavy-duty trucks over 14,000 pounds must comply. Exemptions include zero-emission vehicles, military tactical vehicles, and more. Roadside emissions monitoring started in January 2023.
    📅 Compliance Deadline: December 31, 2023
Vehicle owners must create accounts, verify fleets, and pay the first annual compliance fee ($30 per vehicle) by this date. Compliance verification incorporates existing CARB databases, with annual fees payable starting in 2025.
💻 HD I/M Database and Compliance Testing
CARB's database will manage vehicle data. Periodic testing begins in 2024, with semiannual testing from 2025 onward. Non-compliance may lead to citations and DMV registration blocks.
    🛣️ Out-of-State Vehicles
Compliance deadlines vary based on the last VIN digit, separate from CARB TRUCRS requirements.
    📆 Periodic Vehicle Testing
Starting in 2024, periodic testing initiates. Compliance tests must be submitted within 90 days before a vehicle's deadline. The database provides access to upcoming testing schedules and fee payments.
    👥 Additional Requirements for Stakeholders
Freight contractors, brokers, public agencies, seaports, and railyards have specific responsibilities for compliance verification.
    📧 Have Questions?
Email CARB staff at hdim@arb.ca.gov for assistance; they typically respond within three to five business days.
Stay informed and compliant with California's Clean Truck Check program for a cleaner, healthier environment! 🌍🚚

California is nothing to boast about. You had the 7.3 Powerstroke, (the most reliable engine ever made) banned due to noise emissions, take that in NOISE. All that emissions crap is nothing but fuel consuming, increased engine temps, additional wear and tear and overheating during forced regeneration, horsepower robbing, weight adding garbage. Not to mention the added cost when buying new trucks that have to have it. The added cost to have to maintain or when it inevitably fails or causes other issues to repair. Plus the additional cost and waste from the DEF (needed or the truck won't run and will have to go back to the dealership at even more cost) container, the factory it's made in and all the additional trucking it takes to make or distribute is going to make the environment cleaner? Get the fecal matter off your sidewalk do more to stop rampant crime and people might take you seriously.

If they really want clean air they will make a system that is easy to understand and to use, CARB and the Regulators that have made this so complicated that some people will not be able to implement this system and will then just go around it. Bottom line if you truly want people to not pollute make it simple.

If we make things in the united states , we won't have to pick them up off a container ship in california.

What they are not telling you.... Previously all "Diesels" pre 1997 were exempt. It is funny that this video only talks about commercial vehicles. Guess what? THIS INCLUDES PRIVATELY OWNED MOTOR HOMES. Owners older motorhomes which have diesel pusher engines will have to take the emissions test and unless they can pay for a new engine they will NOT be allowed to register their motorhomes, All large Diesel Pushers built Pre- 20008 sitting in driveways will fail the emissions test. So all you retirees grab you ankles because California just took your motorhome!
