We hiked overlook mountain last month, and we saw 3 rattle snakes - 2 of them were next to the fire tower, on the right side of the tower there seems to be a small Rocky path, that seems like their home - so warning to future hikers to definitely not step in that path. And other one we spotted along the trail before the hotel ruins. Also, saw a black bear in the woods on the way back down. Staying on the trail path is the key here. Nice vlog guys, good job ❤❤
The blooming blooms are great! I beat the hotel was a glorious place at one time. Great climb to a glorious sunset for sure! Incredible! Bruce and Otis
That hotel had to be an amazing place! We had several of those grand hotels in the Catskills from like the 1850s to the early 1900s and they all were on the mountaintops and must have just knocked your socks off. Of course, none of us would have been able to stay at them, since they were for the very upper crust escaping from NYC back then. This hike is one of those must do hikes if you visit the Catskills. Probably the best fire tower view because of the mix of mountains and Hudson Valley beyond. If you find yourself in the area, definitely worth a visit!
It's a beauty of a mountain - especially since it's right on the Catskill escarpment so you get the mountains to the north and west, while you get the Hudson Valley and then the Litchfield Hills, Berkshires, and Greens to the east and north. It's a popular hike for a reason, but we love it.
Yikes, all sounded great until you mentioned the rattlesnakes! The Overlook like in the Shining? The flora along the way was nice to see! Shall we run, im going to block you! 😂 wow, the ruins of the overlook are incredible. Phew, no rattlesnake encounters! The views from that fire tower are amazing. Wonderful sunset. ❤
But we didn't see any of those rattlesnakes! They had already gone to bed for the night!! We've hiked this mountain plenty of times and we've never actually seen one, but we know folks who have. If you catch the hotel on a foggy day, it definitely feels like the set of a horror movie! That fire tower...still wows us every time we're there!
Gorgeous view. The Catskills are beautiful, and I hope they make a comeback.
One of the best in the Catskills

Interesting ruins, got to check them out some day.
It’s definitely worth a visit and reading up on the history beforehand. The whole great hotel era of the Catskills was quite a time.
Cool ruins. If there was another reason I wouldn't hike in sandals, rattlesnakes would be it.
Given how many folks hike this one in flip flops and there’s never been a snake bite, we think the snakes are pretty well trained to avoid folks.
Is there a cliff viewpoint next to the firetower?
Not right at the summit/fire tower but there is a short side trail to the cliff view.
