You are correct about Light burn being the best Laser software. I would say beat design software for cutting materials . I do my design work in lightburn and then use it on my Circut because it is so easy to use and understand.
Great point! I know a few people doing that!
I like your new leather chair. The stitching is awesome
Thank you! 😊
Wow, I just got a domain name and was talking about creating a logo. You read my mind. 💚
Awesome Linda!
I really appreciate the educational help you give on laser engraving. I'm new and waiting for my Ikier to arrive.
Congratulations. I know you're going to like it.
Inkscape, a free vector program, will allow you to do this and more. Closing and joining paths, and/or outlining raster images into vectors may be easier. This includes having irregular font types more difficult replicate by using one of the standard fonts. Most probably already know about this.
There's nothing in Inkscape that can't be done in Lightburn natively.
always learn from you friend thanks again for another great video
Thanks again Jim!
Impressed every time.
Thanks so much Michael! 🙂
Nice job Rich 👍🏼
Thanks Sam 👍
Good video Rich, it's really easy to learn with you, greetings
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you!
Enjoy watching and learning from someone who slowly and throughly presents the information. Great video. Don't change the way you do your youtube.
Glad you like them Merrill, thank you! ✔️
I am very new to laser cutting just got mine last Thursday and I have been binge watching your tutorials and can I say how much I appreciate you I have learned so much! I’m not intimidated by it now at all. I’ve been working with a Cricut for about a year and a half and I’ve learned so much thank you and God bless you
You are so welcome!
Thanks Rich
My pleasure Paul!
Would have been nice to see the diode fill version side by side with the Co2 But nit picking I am. brilliant video Yoda 👍🇬🇧👍
Aha! Caught you! You didn't watch the whole video, watch again! At 30:35 they're side by side.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy No I meant the re do of the run with the diode set to fill instead of line. I watched the video till the end and just saw the side by side of the original cuts. Unless I'm going blind as well as stupid 😂
@@Crewman2770 When I started the diode burn, it was set to line so I stopped it as soon as I saw it and set it to fill. The line job never finished. I thought I moved it far enough but I didn't, so the lines were in the final job.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Ahhhh ok 👍
Thank you for all these videos you do. Very easy to follow and very informative. Thank you again.
Glad you like them Samir!
I had been struggling with a relief fill for a rubber stamp. Being new to LightBurn; I followed your cursor around to see where you were finding the various settings used and deliberately stepped through the process. You have saved me a lot of time and more importantly, most of my sanity! Thanks.
You're most welcome Tat!
More great info to add to my list of things to try. Thanks so much for your great video. I watch them with my morning coffee then again when I go through the steps on my computer.I find it easier if I watch it a few times before actually trying it.
That's the best way to avoid mistakes Edward! Thanks for watching!
Great video Rich, really appreciate showing how to do the vectors, never thought of this.
Glad to help Rob
Simply fascinating stuff Rich, thanks again.
Glad you enjoyed it Mike!
As usual, you’re a rockstar. Thanks for for all your tutorials.
Glad you like them Tom!

Thanks again Rich for a very interesting video, loads of details and easy for us to follow, cheers Rich, that link for the Co2 laser from monport is great, they are very resonable priced, thanks for that link.
Very welcome Wayne!
Great Job. I am working on a logo and learning the software. You taught me a lot. Thanks
Glad I could help Revgap!
Здравствуйте вы классные вещи делаете👍💪
Thanks for watching! 👍
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you very much you helped ma a lot with your advice in Lightburn super!!!
Great and informative as always Rich. I learned a lot from this one too. Oh and by the way I finally made the Eiffel Tower and it came out awesome, thank you. Mike
So glad to hear that Mike! Now wait and see... your friends are going to be asking for one!
Another great and HELPFUL video!
You mention the small beam in the diode, have you messed with de-focusing the laser (to enlarge it) for larger fill jobs or to change the texture? If so, any recommendations? Thanks again!
Yes I have Garrett. In fact, I have several different projects that I do defocused at different heights. I anti-focus for cutting and I defocus sometimes for engravings, depending on the detail level.
Rich, two of the most under utilized features, that I see in all the videos about LightBurn or diode lasers, is in the cut settings editor. One person (not you) made a video about how to speed up your engraving time with a diode laser using LightBurn. All he said was increase speed and up your power. Well, duh! I can lower my engrave time considerably without touching the speed or power settings. Make sure you have the 'Beginner Mode' turned off in 'Settings'. In the 'Cut Settings Editor' in the third section down from the top you will see:
Fill all shapes at once ○
Fill groups together ○
Fill shapes individually ○
If you highlight Fill shapes individually the engraving time will be reduced for engraving letters and certain vector graphics. The other tool that is overlooked is the 'Offset fill' Mode. You had a prime example of where to use Offset fill. If you set the polygon that you put around the logo to a different layer and set that layer to 'Offset fill' I think you will be surprised at how much time it knocks off.
I just made up a logo that looked pretty much the same as the one you just made. The size was 156mm wide and 103mm high. The first burn with everything on the same layer and and 'Fill all shapes at once was set the burn took 39:54. Using the settings I mentioned earlier and without touching the speed setting, the burn time was 13:05. That is quite a time savings.
I love to watch your videos. It's like talking to an old friend.
I always learn something from them and I hope others do too.
Good points! I usually use offset fill for everything.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy did you ever get a fiber laser or thinking about getting one? Just trying to decide which one to get is burning my two remaining grey cells out. Your advice would be appreciated.
@@krisknowlton5935 Yes I did! Here's a link to the post on my forum:

Rich, thanks for the video in watching this. I noticed you use alcohol on acrylic. I have seen in the past on sharp corners using alcohol on acrylic can cause hairline fractures or spider webbing. Have you seen this at all?
Nope, I haven't Bob. I've found it smooths it. Could be the type of acrylic?
At any point are you going to comment about the new lightburn version released and new features, if any? Thank you for your videos
It's not released yet, but it has several awesome new features L.G.!
Great job, I like all the videos you provide. What would happen if you changed the direction of the burn after you have made a burn ( on the diode laser) would that get rid of the lines ? I have just got a laser (Ortur 20) and started watching your channel, You have shown me a lot and I have made several projects. Again great job.
Yes, sometimes when I want a clean burn I'll run the first pass at 45 degrees and the 2nd at -45 degrees.
Rich, I have learned so much from you and am quite impressed with LightBurn. Although this video was great for tracing straight lines how do you either manually or automatically trace randomly curved images or scans?
Right click on them and select trace Patrick.
Rich once again thanks for another great video. Yes totally agree Lightburn is fantastic, guys are doing a fantastic job. May I ask if you could do a video on TEXT . So for example, if I make a cross and I want to cut the Text out of the cross, however, some letters will fall out completely like the letter O, etc.I seems to be that we need to cut out the negative , not too sure . Please could you help. Thanks again vaughan
I have a long list Vaughan... but I cover welding text in a couple of videos.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Awesome thanks
Hi Rich, loving your videos.
It was hard to see the speed and power settings you applied to the K40.
Could you please advise.
Yes Neil, Acrylic was 11/100 mm/sec (15mA) for the cut and 60/50 mm/sec (6-7 mA) for the engrave, and the power on the controller is set to 37.
Great video! Thank you. I thought using alcohol on acrylic was frowned upon? It can cause cracking?
I don't know, never heard that before. Works for me!
How about narrowing the distance between the lines and crosshatching for the diode? Do you think that would look better? Or do the background in a dithered pattern.
You can use all kinds of settings Ed to get the look you're looking for. It just takes some testing.
You mentioned you’ll probably use clear instead of black. Can clear be cut with a 30w diode laser? If so, can you have a video or maybe you already have one.
No, clear cannot be cut with a diode laser Craig.
Awesome stuff, Rich. Glad to see you getting more into the CO2 side of things and I'm stoked for more info on LB1.2. Was that pre-start prompt something new or a setting I can adjust in the current release? I'm always forgetting to turn on an accessory. Doh!
The job checklist in the DSP version for Co2 lasers in device settings Christopher.
Was thinking I ordered this enclosure an it was short in height but if you build it on a 2x6 wood frame it brings it up in height 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Good idea Aaron! I found the height to be okay as is.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy not for rotary which I due lots of tumblerz
So building a base out of 2x6 2x8 2x4 for it to sit on gives it more projects done in it 👍👍
Another great video Rich. Are you going to release the K40 cut library like you have for the other lasers? I ordered the Mini Gerbil board, should be here in a week or so, I think I have everything else I need to start the upgrades. As usual thanks for the video!
I'm working on it George! So far just five materials but I'll have a bunch more before long.
Cool, you'll have it done before I get this K40 all upgraded and working.
Good video as always. Hey how well does that air scrubber you have there work? I don't have an enclosure and trying to vent out the window doesn't work that great for me. I was thinking about picking that one up so the wife stops complaining about the smoke smell from the basement but I'd like to hear your experience with it.
I'll be doing a video on it in a week or so with a few mods Ron. As it sits, it removes all the smoke but not the smell. I'm going to fix that!
How do you see the line or fill in the project without hitting the preview box?
Window --> Filled Course
Can You do the relief fill on an image?
There are only a few settings for images, fill is not one of them Larry.
Hi,
one more time, thank you for all that you do for novices like me,
is it possible to engrave and cut a 5mm clear cast acrylic with a D1 (10W), if it is possible what would be the right cut setting, I read somewhere that we can't cut it because the laser passes through?
Thanks
No Omar. Diode lasers can only cut very dark opaque acrylic
How did you get the confirm box to appear? I would love to have that since I’m bad about forgetting to focus the laser and turn on the air assist. Thanks.
It's in the DSP version for Co2 lasers in device settings.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I don't see a setting for that in my device settings.
@@gilbertarnold1211 Ah, it might be only in the new version. I let one cat out of the bag! 😎 It's coming soon!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Ok, that makes sense. Checked this morning to see if the Beta version was available. Guess I’ll have to wait.
@@gilbertarnold1211 They don't make the Beta available. It should be out soon.
Not sure if I missed it but is black acrylic the only color we're able to cut though with a 10w diode laser?
No, any dark solid color, but black is the easiest.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you so much .
I have a 60watt co 2laser, I do I tell how fast my laser will go. 100 to 3000? Beaver Creek Laser.
I don't understand the question. If you click Edit --> Machine settings --> Read from controller, all of your settings are in there.
