This entire strategy hinges on Microsoft seeking participants, and the truth is they need everyone else, but everyone else doesn't really need them right now. Same with them putting stuff on PS5 and Switch, because Sony is never going to reciprocate by dropping a God of War or a Spider-Man on Xbox in return, and Nintendo obviously isn't going to put something like Metroid Prime 4 on Xbox or whatever. They'd probably rather just take advantage of the fact that their competitor is completely capitulating, and that they get to take a cut off all their software, because that's exactly what Steam is doing right now. They're already participating in a capacity that wholly benefits both Microsoft and these other parties mutually, but not to an extent that one is at a clear disadvantage, which Valve would be by allowing Microsoft to dig into the passive income Steam just gets by being Steam
From what I understand there would be no deal with valve just like there isn’t one for steam on windows, it would essentially be the same thing as the pc experience with a console interface.

@@emptysoul2757 When did 8 suddenly become "nothing crazy" on a 10 point scale lmao. Y'all have been trained to undervalue absolutely anything critically
Xbox died in 2013 at E3. Because gaming went digital, no one is switching platforms now and losing hundreds of games they bought. Going forward, gaming is basically going to be steam, PlayStation, and Nintendo due to locking people in with their digital libraries.
Everyone on the timeline this week was talking so positively about Stalker 2 going gold, the Indiana Jones Deep dive and the South of midnight doc. Then Phil Spencer just had to open his mouth lmao.
They literally just launched a marketing campaign about how you don't need an Xbox to play Xbox because everything's an Xbox now. I'm pretty sure them not caring about their console sales is a fact of life at this point.
Microsoft and Xbox make consoles because they want that at home in couch customer who not getting a pc. The market is still bringing them money people act like 30 million is a small number. That's just series X not counting S or the new white nonsense
3:01:13, the Switch's biggest market is 35 and older, which is about the same market as the PS5 and Series. Not sure why people still act like the Switch is for kids to teen when we literally have data from Nintendo showing the age breakdown. People who buy handhelds don't really care about 'high performance'. As much as a success as the Stream Deck is, it still hasn't sold as much as the Vita, which is considered a failure sale-wise.
That's because a new pc handheld drops every week lol Gabe couldn't care less about steamdeck when every handheld pc is downloading steam day one. Steam wins regardless of the handheld brand. This is exactly what Microsoft wants. Make a console, but make your games avaliable anywhere and everywhere because you're getting a cut regardless. It's a pretty smart business tactic imo.
Media bias is well engraved in gaming circles, but it doesn't help that Sony will blacklist you if you give any game a negative review while xbox dose not care because they make money i so many other categories, so in the gaming side as an outsider you look at Media abd think xbox is dead or dying, but then you look at it as an adult through the financial side an see xbox is THRIVING
@MrShika07 Wrong. Playstation exclusives are overwhelmingly well-recieved by the AUDIENCE. They all sell very well and are rated very high by the audience. Xbox exclusives (like Halo and Gears of War) are often poorly-recieved by gamers.
In regards to the Sega delistings, it's pretty obvious that they're prepping a new collection. That said, for the Genesis/Megadrive collection specifically it exists in physical form on console anyway. So you can just go grab a copy for like $20 if you want.
W Cog, for someone like myself that hates cooking cause its time consuming. that airfryer is so key for steaks/salmon/wings/burgers etc so many recipes that are max 30 mins
I have an addiction to wings and I make them 4-5 times a week. I know make them in the air fryer and they are just as good as oil fried! Dust with flour/cornstarch/baking powder and sauce after done. It's a gamechanger to the point I even bought a much larger fryer a few weeks ago.
@@Synchro789 Just spray the bottom tray and the top of the food well with cooking spray before cooking. Then when you flip or shake the basket it still keeps it easy to clean.
It’s hard to say what Xbox does better than anyone else at this point. On PC I’d rather play through Steam. Lately PlayStation’s streaming quality has inexplicably gotten better than Xbox’s. Finally, when they make a handheld, why would I buy Xboxes over everyone else’s? I just don’t know who these moves are attractive to. It’s a shame. I’ve owned an Xbox every gen since it launched. This gen will likely be my last.
My guess is its Xbox seeing what sticks. Which will be none of it because Xbox doesn't know what it's doing. Like you said on PC it's steam On console it's likely playstation Nintendo has the handheld market
Hope Xbox fans enjoy Death Stranding. It's undeniably unique. I played it right before my first kid was born, and Death Stranding weirdly made me feel a lot more "ready". It will always hold a special place in my gaming heart.
I don't think Sony handheld coming out first will impact an Xbox user that is already into their ecosystem. Plus, if MS does truly go 3rd-party they we'll be able to have other storefronts that PS will most likely not have on their handheld. Also, MS should work more on an Xbox OS frontend that can run on any PC rather than worry about hardware. The $1000 console comment was more for the next Xbox system than the cost of the PS5 Pro. Let's not get it twisted the evolution everyone wants for the next gen is going to be pricey.
Metaphor high key requires too much grinding to have a Callander system. This game isn't Nocturne-level crazy but entering a dungeon and having to farm MP just so you can keep grinding MP without burning a day is so tedious. Especially since the mage is out here just restoring one MP per overworld slay. I just ended up abusing party stack passives with 4 merchants. No more tactics, no more MP recovery, no more testing archetypes just beating people down with money the using the seeds to level up the jobs. I hope ATLUS fixes the balance in this game cause this is Persona 4 (ps2) level bad where you cling to every soda can and had to have Narukami use only phys skills.
I don't think you actually need to restore MP because of how many extra days they give you at the end of the game, people just do it because they like doing the dungeons in one day. I enjoy the combat enough to get into a chill flow-state, but I can see some not liking it. Then again though I prefer this light grind and length over P5Rs length and grind.
@James-u1y I felt the grind was much easier in P5R, most of the work was just fusing a proper persona for Ren and buying the SP adhesive from Takemi. I felt like my time was very limited in Metaphor as the gauntlet runner took days to get to the dungeons, and if I wanted to tackle every optional dungeon like COG was doing, I had to one-shot them. After all a day wasted getting your MP back is a stat boost or a social event that was missed. I don't like playing with guides so every day counts when I'm not following an optimized path.
I've commented a lot already but this episode has been 10/10, so my thoughts on the 3-year wait for the Xbox handheld is pretty dire. If they are so slow as to need another 3+ years then I don't see them succeeding to the degree they need. My reason for saying this is simple: Valve will likely have the 2nd generation Steam Deck out by that time, Steam has already said they want more time between their handheld releases for bigger upgrades to give value to the consumer, within those 3+ years we will likely have more options for handheld hardware and Valve will not sit on that hardware and will have a product at that time cutting away Xbox’s potential slice of the market. After this, it's a snowball effect, Legion, Ally, Sony, and Nintendo will all get ahead and Xbox will be left in the exact same position as their mainline console is now. Last place or even worse the consumer has no money to spend because they've already bought every other handheld they would've wanted from Steam, Nintendo, and the heavier performing option from Asus. They needed to get something closer to the Switch 2 rather than 2+ years after it. I could be wrong, but I have a gut feeling Steam Deck 2 will get ahead and suck up the market from Xbox.
So let me get this straight. People think Sony games will come to xbox because of ds1 but not acknowledging the fact that the LEGO horizon game is skippibg the xbox console only..
Sadly, in America, a lot of people aren’t offered true vacation time from work or they can’t afford to take a vacation day because it’s just a day off. It’s not a paid day off. I just took our entire week off never done it before I would always take sporadic days throughout the year, have a great employer and they give lots of vacation days. It’s just this was the first time I decided to use my vacation days for an entire week off. It was amazing to literally not do anything just to and only do what I wanted to do. If I didn’t wanna do it, I didn’t do it. I don’t want oatmeal for breakfast today. Fine. I won’t have oatmeal today. That’s what I get. I thought I would want to play lots of games. I did get some metaphor, but actually, I found myself reading and just laying in bed. Everyone take vacation days even if you just take off a Friday and a Monday to give yourself a four-day weekend do it. I know some employers reimburse you for vacation days. You simply don’t use. It’s extra money. You can get back each year but I’m telling you money isn’t everything take the vacation day
Great episode! Love the part when you guys gave love to Sabotage studios. Did you guys know that The Messenger and Sea of Stars take place canonically in the same universe? Not to spoil too much but just keep in mind the possibilities of time travel in The Messenger and think of how that concept could pan out. The new DLC for Sea of Stars is supposed to potentially go into how the two games are connected even further!
Keeping something like Halo multiplayer off of PlayStation only hurts Halo as a brand in terms of growth potential and barely helps Xbox anymore. I'd wager most of the people who complain about Halo going to Xbox don't even play the game a week or so after release. The hardcore Halo fans just want more people playing Halo.
23:03 I'm a bit older than Matty but I was still in primary school when Halo 2 released. Still, I had the metal special edition which came with the Making Of footage, and I've always dreamed of the E3 demo because of that.
Love the passion from both of you in the what we’re playing section this week! Both happy and deep in the games. Matty death stranding is brilliant keep at it! Loved hearing you talk about it🙏🏻
The Halo Digsite crew are an unspoken hero in Master Chief Collection's rehabilitation efforts. They dropped two other things with that Halo 2 E3 2003 demo remake that are not being talked about as much but are still super cool to see, which one of them was a complete restoration of Alpha Moon, which was a cut campaign level that was going to be set on Basis (the moon of Threshold which was the planet Installation 04, or Combat Evolved's ringworld, orbited around) and it was about the Arbiter basically leading a coup on a Heretic camp after the uprising with the Sanghelli. The other thing they've been working on was a complete recreation of Halo's Macworld 1999 demo when the game was first announced. Originally it was going to be a Mac/PC game that was already converted from an RTS (think Bungie's other game Myth), to a third person shooter, and the level they demonstrated was very clearly an early prototype of a Silent Cartographer-type biome. These are content drops that only the most hardcore "if you know you know" Halo fans will actually get mileage out of but it's so cool that 343/Halo Studios is giving the community this robust of a platform. The only downside in either case is that it's Steam-only because Xbox/Windows Store doesn't support mods which I sincerely hope changes in the future because it sucks that especially people on console can't play these little nuggets of history
I wouldn't call it a plan per se but one I think one of the stipulations sighned between Sony and Kojima was that he would gain back all rights to his game after a certain amoubt of years so thwre was always this distinct possibility that it would eventually show up on xbox.
I love that Matty is enjoying Death Stranding! especially with the additions from the Director's Cut. There's so much more to the game than it first lets on
Cog not passing the drip check for a boss fight in Metaphor is insane. And super happy that Matty's enjoying Death Stranding. Comment boys rejoice. Wait at least a year before trying Disco Elysium or we'll have nothing to complain about.
Enjoyed this a lot. And like Cog said appreciate Matty having some taeks, but then going back and actually playing his comparisons to reassess. #Iwantaredline
Good for you Matty for having a new perspective in relation to Death Stranding but maybe next time be more open to the audience recomendations and less reactionary to games that you have not played. The amount of shit you gave to that game was tiring and uncalled for imo. Also, the plot and events seems weird but they all make sense inside the logic of the game world. its like reading a very creative/inventive Sci fi novel.
Ten Cent does get to say in censorship and that’s because that company has to answer to the Chinese government long-term. If they put something in a game that the Chinese government doesn’t like they get a phone call and telling them take it out. It’s not about censorship now it’s about restriction. That’s already in place before you even start making moves.
I know it sounds good to make another Arkham game, but WB faces a really big problem if they do profitability. Making an Arum game will not be cheap. It will be a great game most likely but it’s not gonna be cheap and it’s going to take years and then you have to sell. The problem is the cost of developing games has gone up so much it’s difficult to break even you have to sell more copies than ever just to say we broke even. This eats into just how profitable even your biggest games can be. It makes it so that unless a game is a home run success that it’s not very profitable. Remember when you make a game, it only needs to break even it needs to bring in enough money so that you can make the next game, still have money left over. Think about how much money you need to make on a game then if a game might cost you $150 million to make. You need to make $300 million plus some more. In order to break $300 million in sales at a $70 price tag you need to sell 4.28 million copies of a game. That just brings in enough money to make this game and potentially your next game even though that your next game will cost more than this game but let’s just keep it fundamental. Now you need to actually be able to tell investors not only did we break and only can we make the next game but we can show you, so you need to go beyond 4.28 million copies. And investor wants to hear really high return on investment numbers I don’t wanna hear you made $70 return on investment when you have millions of shares of stock out there you need to bring some cash, guess what you need to sell several million copies more. To be honest if you’re going to put out game at a minimum you need to sell 7 million copies. And you will be held to the Harry Potter standard because why would I take this money and make an Arham game when I could’ve made a Harry Potter game that would sell more copies. You think these companies are chasing the service golden goose but they aren’t. It’s just so much more costly developing one game at a time and one slip is all it takes to screw you over for years to come. If you can capture that live service, golden goose, even if you have a mishap slip or fall major dip for your company service golden goose can do more than keep you afloat. The Service golden goose has turned Ten Cent into a powerhouse in the gaming industry. They literally say here’s some golden goose money to keep you afloat. Think about that the golden goose for one company is keeping other companies afloat. Don’t think for one moment every other gaming company out there isn’t looking at that they would be foolish. They would be foolish not to at least try and make a golden goose for themselves.
Its kind of interesting because one of the reasons why ken levine formed a new team is so that he could direct games that need fewer resources. But now, the game has taken years and may have still ended up requiring more time and money than it was worth
Hyped to get Stalker 2, Indiana Jones, and Sniper Elite on gamepass. Definitely next up after Death Stranding! Hope they keep bringing stuff like this forget that CoD trash.
I think with correct direction and really solid writing John Cena could pull off Shepard. He wouldn't be one of my top 3 picks, but I can see the vision. For the love of God, please have good writing...
This whole thing about Bethesda not knowing how popular fallout tv show would be, I don’t agree with it.. they wouldn’t have greenlit the show otherwise 😂 they knew and they didn’t care enough to do anything worthwhile with the games to align it, they took the money from the show with minimal work
I think they had a couple patches changing dialogue fixes but I didn't focus enough in the singular words to know how the grammar was, I definitely found the story subpar though. I only say subpar because the game is so great outside of writing that it makes the writing feel worse than it is. I noticed a few others mention writing being their only negative as well over the year.
Fallout 3 or NV remasters are a long time coming. Don't even need to change any systems just updated graphics and playable without mods on PC and it's good to go.
Matty, I hope you can reset over the holidays as I know how work can cause health issues. An Xbox is going to be seen as a follower reagrdless of launching first because Sony already has two (well three with the streaming device) where as Xbox doesn't....😅
Rolling the eyes at the title 'no more exclusives?' I mean, why do you people continue to this to yourselves? Phil could come out tomorrow and announce the next Halo for PS5 and people would still say, 'but is it really not going to be exclusive anymore?' Is Phil really so good at ruining xbox slowly enough so that gamers never realize their console is over? Is he really so much smarter than xbox fans? I cannot believe it.
I’m not sure if it’s fair to say no more exclusives. If I recall, we use the phrase time to exclusive for how many years now. When you say no more exclusives, that literally makes people think oh it’s coming to all platforms day one I don’t believe that’s the case. For the record, I think they should come to all platforms day one I think it’s a bad move for them to do to exclusives but I think that is what they will be doing Indiana Jones will not be coming to PlayStation on day one but it’s probably coming to PlayStation in the future. Let’s just be real about it for a moment. It’s not gonna sell enough copies on PC and Xbox platforms to make money to generate profit so you need to sell it someplace else if you can that’s when you try and sell it on PlayStation that’s when you try and sell it on some Nintendo platform. Remember the goal here is to produce games for owners of Xbox and then say to them hey it’s on Game Pass your Game Pass subscription that’s the goal here to make money selling software and subscriptions we’ve lost the hardware we won’t win the war because it’s over with now we need to sell software to make money. It is what it is. Anybody who has their heels dug in thinking that Microsoft can come back they can sell more systems than PlayStation stop sounding foolish. Nobody who owns PlayStation is going to suddenly switch to an Xbox and give up all the games they’ve purchased over the last two generations. I know we don’t go back and play our games like we think we will but the concept of just leaving them behind. That’s too much for everybody. I still have my PS4 plugged in. I don’t touch it at all, but I just can’t get rid of it. But I can’t get rid of it because I bought those games on it.
I think the only reason why stuff is timed for the immediate future is simply down to the fact this pivot to multiplat was so abrupt and overnight that it's going to be a bit of an adjustment period for the developers impacted, specifically with regards to the Xbox Game Studios teams, some of whom will probably be slower in bringing their games immediately elsewhere. There was a leak like a couple weeks ago that apparently Age of Empires II DE is being playtested on PSN right now which suggests that might be a drop for early next year, but I don't think stuff like Avowed, South of Midnight and Fable will have the turnaround something like Indy did because PlayStation was probably just not factored into the schedule as quickly. I do think however they're all on the cards especially after this interview, and I think starting in 2026 specifically is when there will be a more consistent cadence of dropping on PlayStation or especially the next Switch in addition to Xbox and PC. Bethesda's stuff especially I think is done being exclusive. Indy was probably just too last minute in terms of commissioning a PS5 port to be timed with the other platforms but I think stuff like Blade and especially TES6 are probably fully multiplat from day one. And obviously Activision, none of those games are gonna be Xbox/PC-only at all I don't think. I also totally buy that something like the Halo CE remake that was reported earlier this year is probably going to be on PS5 as well. I think they look at the install base on there and see that putting Halo on there will probably boost the multiplayer numbers back to like, 2006/07 peak Halo on Xbox Live levels of success
It's pretty sad when you can't accept that others have differing opinions. Amazing how someone is suspected of being 'too subjective' simply because they felt differently. Especially when the two hosts disagree naturally on various things. Wild

well for xbox handheld, it HASSSSSSSSSS to be COMPLETE WINDOWS PC games with your actual Xbox library of games, even Xbox 360 games. Microsoft has the codings, they just have to deliver.
HONESTLY.....imagine them selling an Xbox handheld with all backwards compatible games already built in. Xbox/360/One games are all free with this new hardware purchase. That would be such an insane move from them
Xbox will not have a handheld, it will be cancelled. PlayStation will have their own handheld, and in 2-3 years Game Pass will be on it. Microsoft may eventually release some sort of handheld PC that can also do Game Pass, but Xbox hardware itself is absolutely done. No reason for it to exist.

Playstation exclusives are almost invariably very well-received. Xbox exclusives are mostly not very well received.

The struggle with the air fryer for me is keeping it clean 😢
I have an addiction to wings and I make them 4-5 times a week. I know make them in the air fryer and they are just as good as oil fried! Dust with flour/cornstarch/baking powder and sauce after done. It's a gamechanger to the point I even bought a much larger fryer a few weeks ago.

Like you said on PC it's steam
On console it's likely playstation
Nintendo has the handheld market
You can easily farm mp items from some enemies and cook mp items...
1:18:00 Cog pantomiming everything Matty says has me rollin

The reason people rarely tall about Tencent acquisitions is because they never publicize it as loudly as we see reporting on Xbox or Sony.
Don't know how you guys do it. Xbox has been so wtf since the Xbox One.
LMAO Cog's handheld predictions are WAY off 😂😂😂😂
Wasnt 5 years frem the previous announcement date, it was 5 years after DS launched. Colin thinks this was always the plan.
I agree with him actually, 5 years to the date seems planned. Had to have been written into the contract between Kojima and PS
I wouldn't call it a plan per se but one I think one of the stipulations sighned between Sony and Kojima was that he would gain back all rights to his game after a certain amoubt of years so thwre was always this distinct possibility that it would eventually show up on xbox.

Matty said Xbox had good exclusives this gen, what good exclusives? Trash Hi Failed Rush? Or maybe Deadfall and Hellno Incomplete were good? Lol
Don’t forget fart in the wind Hellblade 2 or starfield

Glad to do a build before the expected tariffs.
In regards to Judas, why does the game "have to deliver big" just because they announced the game awhile ago and it looks cool?
Its kind of interesting because one of the reasons why ken levine formed a new team is so that he could direct games that need fewer resources. But now, the game has taken years and may have still ended up requiring more time and money than it was worth
Obvious, to live up to previous work and he chatted it up a couple times over the years. You make your bed you sleep in it.

I think with correct direction and really solid writing John Cena could pull off Shepard. He wouldn't be one of my top 3 picks, but I can see the vision. For the love of God, please have good writing...
This whole thing about Bethesda not knowing how popular fallout tv show would be, I don’t agree with it.. they wouldn’t have greenlit the show otherwise 😂 they knew and they didn’t care enough to do anything worthwhile with the games to align it, they took the money from the show with minimal work
Is he talking about the dragons in the metaphor section? Ik they have the one hitter attack
Matty's take on Sea of Stars grammar/writing seems well off the mark for me. I thought it was great and haven't heard anyone else ever mention it... 🤔

An Xbox is going to be seen as a follower reagrdless of launching first because Sony already has two (well three with the streaming device) where as Xbox doesn't....😅
Marvel rivals is fine I promise
Wild
It didn't seem that crazy to me listening to the pod, what are you on about? Did I miss something?

well for xbox handheld, it HASSSSSSSSSS to be COMPLETE WINDOWS PC games with your actual Xbox library of games, even Xbox 360 games. Microsoft has the codings, they just have to deliver.
HONESTLY.....imagine them selling an Xbox handheld with all backwards compatible games already built in. Xbox/360/One games are all free with this new hardware purchase. That would be such an insane move from them
Bethesda striking after not making a decent game in 10 years is hilarious.
It was one of the QA teams, not much considering the size of the whole studio and connective business.
i love that you all love Death Stranding!!! (been a long time coming ;)
Since they've already mentioned it, they wont cancel it. When business people actually being something to light when your high up the chain like a CEO that means it's been in development for years already.
I believe it will have a handheld but what's the point if all the games are elsewhere.

Exclusive games just suck Spider-Man was once not an exclusive game and Wolverine not exclusive that Sony took away that was a third party game
Marvel went to Sony for Spider-Man. They actually went to Microsoft as well but they turned it down. It wasn't a case of the inverse or Sony taking away Spider-Man from everyone. Marvel wanted the partnership, and you'll have to talk to them about why it's not on other consoles.
Marvel wanted it as a xbox expulsive and Microsoft was moving away from exclusives at the time so they didn't believe it would be profitable. Dumb move by Microsoft because they didn't have any xbox heads in the meeting
Spider-man Lethal Foes and Web of Fire were both exclusive. Wasn't the last Blade game a multiplat? Ninja Gaiden was exclusive. Then multiplat. Bayonetta was multiplat Then exclusive. Deals happen
