    HiFlo RC for the win. Their is a reason some pleats are shorter and staggered. This allows more pleats and better flow as the pleat ends are not all squeezed together where they meet at the tube. And notice the internal tube with a lot of large holes compared to other filters. And it filters to 5 micron.

  • @skippynj1979

    For the hiflo.. that filter fold design actually ads to amount filter amount. If you stretched out the media and measured you would see there is more material, which means more surface area which allows more oil to be filtered at the same time. This also allows for lower pressure in the filter and the pressure relief can be lower. It's is very well engineered. I would rather have oil circulated than held up in the filter...
    Filters don't do much.. frequent oil changes are your best defense for removal of oil contamination..
    Btw KN is made by HiFlo.

    The pressure relief on a filter does more that allow a bypass of pressure of a clogged filter. It also allows bypassing the filter media when the oil is cold so as not to over-pressure the oil pump, starve the engine of oil flow or blow out gaskets, oil lines, and distort the media.
    The cut outs that looked like a bit of extra wasted space around the inner tube in one of the filters actually provides relief of space for wrapping the filter media allowing a few extra folds of the paper on the outer ring of the paper. In non engineering terms that means more filter paper squashed inside the filter.

      Yup - the important thing, I've been made aware of recently, is the calibration of the pressure release valve. I've found 2 filters for my bike that take that seriously: The OEM and Mahle. There may be others but it's not common and it is important.

    The "paper" of each of those filters has different filtration abilities and made out of different materials. HiFlo is 5 microns where as some of those other filters go up to 20-25 microns, which is still good but not as good as HiFlo. K&N uses synthetic "paper", which theoretically should filter more consistently over a long run. Also, canisters are different thickness=different burst ratings. Especially for dirt bike thicker canister means less chance of a puncture. Some of those filters use silicone diaphragm and others rubber. Silicon is obviously better. I prefer HiFlo for oil and K&N for air.

    The filter actually retains and disintegrates the carbon dirt of the combustion process because the oil has detergent components to clean the carbon deposits of each explosion. This is the reason why the oil goes black loosing properties, so is very important to change the oil every 4000 miles. We can say that new oil will also clean the filter the reason why is important to change in first place the oil and in second place the filter. Thank to the oil detergent components a clogging filter situation is avoided which guarantees a high flow the most important of all.

    I want to also point out that design you flawed with the HiFlo filter helps keep filter pleets from folding over / collapsing under high stress / flow / pressure and also the bypass for the motors these filters are meant to be used on have a bypass pressure suggestion of 9-15 psi the reason some are lower is for cold weather so oil can circulate till oil warms up and thins the Hiflo filter is the brand name not the filter flo design and its around 10psi bypass while the others are more near 15psi again all within factory specifications for our motors.

    Thanks for take your time and money to show internals of all those filters, really appreciated , but more technical knowledge required for the names of internal components components like but not limited to: end caps, center core, leaf spring or coil spring,anti drain back valve, bypass valve type, filtration media I.e. being cellulose base, enhanced cellulose, cellulose/synth hybrid or full synthetic etc, and yes a filter is a restriction for the oil system flow but but necessary to keep your oil clean and yes design and filtration media will impact on flow, synthetic media allows oil flow better than the cellulose and most or if not every time with better filtration & capacity rating,otherwise why they took the time to develop it, more media could imply but not necessarily, more restriction but indeed more capacity and vice versa, trap and retain hydrocarbon byproducts due fuel combustion and metals particles due normal wear of internal components and keep them is the solely purpose of oil filters, an always over mystified topic, most people demonize Fram filters but from the stand point of cost and design they do what they are intended to do for a limited time, personally I wont use them,not a fan but if you will replace them often no problemo, to be on the safe side get a decent quality and design filter and replace it when mandated by manufacturer, Honda filters looks very decent of course OEM equipment but cost efective remember that cost is everything for OEMs,

Engineers get paid a lot of money to put together these filters together and they are very knowledgeable about these scientific specs we are not. If we can do such a better job we need to invent a oil filter. Other than that choose a oil filter change it regularly and find out what works best for your motorcycle end of story.

      That’s what I use in all my German cars for the last 30 years. Mann actually makes the OEM filters. Working as a tech for Mercedes I never saw one fail and never heard of Mercedes ducking a claim due to improper filter. Mercedes and VW use felt filters and no paper. All aftermarket filters are paper and do not provide the same filtration and depending on pressure they can also fail. Mann makes quality products for high performance machines for reasonable prices.

    I hate seeing you using a grinding disk in the middle of a workshop with bikes around you. The sparks are pieces of metal and abrasive material you send flying all around. Big one will probably fall on your knees or on the floor but the fine dust will cover the bikes and possibly part of open engines...think about it twice next time

  • @jonflach9432
    @jonflach9432 6 років тому

    Maybe I can't tell from the video but it looked like the Honda filter wasn't sealed up properly at either end allowing for a constant flow of unfiltered oil along with the filtered oil. Maybe I just can't see it properly. If it isn't sealed properly then the Honda is the worst filter here.

    The ONLY FILTER I've EVER USED and will EVER CONTINUE TO USE.............is the K&N one!!! Many laugh at me for how much they cost...............UNTIL...........I ride my bike hard, and FAR BEYOND the quote/unquote "recommended" oil-change intervals,and drain the oil and filter,and they BOTH look GREAT!!! Like they could go another few thousand miles without ANY problem!!! Btw........one "tip" I recommend for any gearhead? Stick a few tiny "magnets" on the sides of your new filters!!! That way,it'll "magnetize" the entire filter housing and any "metal" pieces that comes in,will immediately STICK to the side of the housing instead of possibly damaging internal engine-parts in case they DO NOT get filtered out by the media-filter element!!! ~Peace~

    • @menom7
      @menom7 6 років тому

      Hi Robert...........Nope!!! For as long as I've been using K&N filters,I've never ONCE had a "nut" break loose on me while trying to remove it,nor have it leak on me whatsoever,due to improper gasket seating!!! Not sure if I've been just "lucky" in not buying any defective K&N filters,but it has yet to happen to me!!! :)

    • @scottbowen5332
      @scottbowen5332 6 років тому

      Just so ya know, the K&N has been banned from several race organizations for weld failures at the nut. Several instances of bikes with K&N filters oiling down tracks and wrecking bikes.

    • @exothermal.sprocket
      @exothermal.sprocket 5 років тому +1

      K&N can't be any better than Bosch or Mobil 1 or Purolator One. Ironically even a SuperTech Walmart filter is a good filter, regardless of price. Certain brands are made by the same company (Champion, for instance), but may not be constructed in the same way.
      As long as the bypass valve pressure rating is good and the valve works reliably (never prematurely), as long as the bonding between the media and endcaps is solid, as long as the media is consistent (density and micron rating) and offers long-enough filtration service (before bypass activates, relative to your oil-dump intervals), as long as the internal materials of the filter are good or excellent (never breaking down thermally or in construction), then why in the world would anyone pay double the amount for a "feel good brand" or "my buddy does this" or "such and such racing team does that" if the actual ability of the celebrated brand isn't any better in actuality than a less costly brand? Especially if the two are actually being manufactured by the same company but having separate brands pasted on them...

      menom7 Just the fact that you ride "Far beyond" the recommended changes with your extraordinary filter makes you a typical idiot.
