The trucks Tech Deck used on the pro series are the new china trucks. A Chinese manufacturer copied pretty much all existing brands in 2022 (Blackriver, Dynamic, Ytrucks, Caramel) and tech deck decided to use these. That's why truck companies are now making embossed finishes to stand out from the fake. (For example BRT 3.0) I bought a couple sets of each replica to compare with the original ones and they are almost identical besides from kingpin/bushings. To prove how they just 3d scanned the exact designs, they copied the Caramel hangers without knowing they were 35mm and put a 34mm axle inside it, making it impossible to screw the wheels on.
No that’s not right… With the china stuff it’s another cup of tee but the tech deck trucks are different to everything on the market, yes they have the exactly same geometry like BRTs but the trucks itself seems to be very different in some points, maybe the hangars could be close but the baseplate is something different, the whole from the pivot cup is bigger then on normal china trucks and have a different shape as the brt baseplates so far I know… But I can only talk about what if seen in videos, here in Germany you still can’t buy them without self import what drives the price to BR scale what’s way to much for what you get… But if they somedays available too in Germany on a normal way I will buy one to compare precisely… But to say they are the brt copy’s from leefai (that’s the name of this copycat company) it’s just wrong… Oh and btw, the brt copy’s from them have the embossed skull logo, exactly like the brts, just the name on the baseplate are not there…
What? I remember that they made wooden decks long ago (mor for collecting as for shredding) but well performing trucks and wheels are something that I never sought from tech deck… Have you some pictures or links to those boards that I can have a look?
@cooper4790 lol what do you mean... $20 for trucks, $10 for bushings and pivot cups, $40 for wheels $5 for grip, and $25 on shipping Thats for a whole setups worth. Dynamics will cost near that price JUST for trucks.
I did the same with my Plan B performance series. Fav setup, but I'm actually getting board chips in the nose from landing flips upside down outdoors. lol gonna have to grab a teak deck soon. Tech deck was an AMAZING starter to get back into the game, but now I think it might be time for some better decks to go with all the rest of the parts.
You can upgrade stock tech deck truck with few homemade bushings from a rubber band and they can be really smooth and good and if you buy a few dollar bearing wheels you have a really nice board from the performance series
Yeah, but for most wheels you need to prepare the hangars way more, you need to grind the end of the hangars more in a round shape, if you don’t do this most wheels (for example illpills, cheap china wheels, China pro wheels, spitboards, teak wheels, kraken and so on…) will scratch to the hangars or even didn’t spin at all cuz they presses to the hangar when tied up… The only wheels which works I have are oaks and the create your skate wheels (very nice and durable nylon wheels for a very fair pricetag), everything else need to grind the hangars in the right shape… Tbh, I done this 2 times and it’s really not worth the time cuz that are still not the only flaws the trucks have, another issue for example are the tolerances (the axis on one hangar is 5mm long, the next 6 and a third 4.5mm and so on…) on those trucks and that you only can build a nice working set when you use the baseplates of the 29mm trucks and the hangars of the 32mm trucks cuz of the extremely short threads on the 32mm baseplates king pin, that’s not even long enough that you could put lock nuts on them, don’t even talk from the settings of the bushings… So all in all completely not worth the time you spend with this, would you got to your work in the same time you earn enough for money for 3-4 sets of the good China Trucks (the new once with the axis that fits for single bearing wheels) which are very nice out of the box, just but beta bushings into it and you have trucks on brt scale that are better in any way as the normal tech deck trucks (not those of the pro series)… And that’s not for free too cuz you highly need a 32mm tech deck and a 29mm tech deck just to tune a single set of trucks (all stuff that’s than over is just for the trash, so a pretty high waste)… So if you really have nothing what you can spend, then tuning tech deck trucks is maybe the only solution you have but the 20 bucks (usd or €) for trucks and bushings are not that much that it would be worth the effort you put into that project and in the end china trucks still perform better as the reworked tech deck trucks…
i have a question you mentionned that on the performance series it just a rubber coating plastic on the wheel but !! when you talk about the wheel on the pro series you dont mention if the wheels is ALL in rubber since after a week one of my wheel( perfo series) just split in half ( and rubber bushing too but i can see that the pro series have AMAZING realistic bushing ! ) so this is my question should i keep my perfo series and just upgrade the rubber bushing and wheels or just buy a pro board ( 12.99 CAD for perfo and almost 100 CAD on amazon for a pro series ) :)
Nice video. I wanna grab the zero one when I can find it for msrp. I’m really curious to know if there’s a difference between the older boxed pro series vs the plastic tube pro series. I heard rumors of there being a mold difference but I was never able to confirm it bc I was never able to find the box version.
there is! I have a first generation performance series and it features a duel durometer wheel whereas the box is a single rubber wheel. I can make a video on it if you would like
Just to be precisely, the performance wheels don’t just have a rubber film, they are completely out of rubber… Know it very well cuz I prepared a set with bearings, to fit them right the only option is to put the bearings to the side where normally sitting the nut of the truck, so you must drill a bigger whole to the side which is normally that where the axis of the truck sits.. During this I noticed that it isn’t just a film how I thought too, no they are full rubber… Oh and to give a feedback, the wheels are still trash even with bearings…😅 But at least they looks nice, so a perfect wheelset for a not very often used or decoration setup… Put my now on my bathroom setup, it’s nearly unused (have simply way better setups I enjoy to run) but it looks good and when I want to use it it’s fine…
Maybe the wheels are 2 piece so they can be replaced without getting a whole new wheel. I could see them coming out woth different colors and replacements of the white outer part of the wheel
I love your vids and you are the reason I learnt how to jump my board properly thx so much also I I really want the gripson finger board because it looks so cool
Black River ships to the US. Freeshipping for orders over 100 euro (about 100USD) I believe. Though, I started buying Ark Ramps when I relocated to the US. Those dudes ship out of California.
The tech deck p grip is tbh the worst foam tape I ever tried and I tried a lot… Even the cheap china tape which I get when I buy woodplanks to press boards (I think it’s just that stuff you can buy on eBay for a couple of bucks for 100 piceses) is better then, what ever tech deck uses on this… The best tape I’ve tried till now is that what my Dynamic plastic complete (a collab between dynamic and 6 skates) came with, not sure if it is dynamic tape or something from 6skate but it’s so nice that I must ask TKY if he can find out what that is (bought mine in the ASI Berlin store)… It feels somelike sticky but it don’t stick at all, hard to describe and no idea what kind of tape it is but it’s really very nice… Directly after that came the FBS Suave followed from the normal FBS tape… So long I don’t know what tape they used on this dynamic complete I would clearly recommend the FBS tape, just try it and you will see directly what I talk about…😉
Yaaa im definitely not getting one of those pro series for that price. I already upgraded my tech deck performance series with teak trucks wheels and tuning. Gonna get a 34mm setup from them swap over my ATP wheels and call it a Teak Deck lol
Its not worth $70 for sure, i would say if you want a real skateboard graphic get a performance series board, get some LC trucks and bearing wheels, for $30 ish and the tech deck is 12 so lets say $45 you have the same experience as the PRO series. I would say the pro series is worth around that price and with the ledge maybe 50 ish but $70 seems a bit much.
Good tech deck is trying. But thats just it seems more like doing it more for the hype then for the love of the craft. Agree performance is better bang but still needs wheels and trucks. So at that point why other that the great graphics.
What? The Tech decks have better trucks, I’m pretty sure that’s why it’s 70. The trucks alone are like $40 I think. Then the grip tape which is probably like 5-10 and also I think the wheels are a upgraded version compared to the LC completes.
I believe that the pro series is a VERY large upgrade, but just like any other brand Tech Deck still has loads of places to improve.
