What I like about you Debbie, is not only are you a great Gardner and you get right to the teaching of planting, but also, you do it being yourself, unlike some who turn it into a Hollywood fashion show of them selves, thanks for all you do!
Pretty as a picture! This lovely gardening expert with her flowers ❤️What a beautiful and thoughtful setup for today's presentation! The orange cushions and her white blazer really helped the lavender pop, too!
Thanks for sharing just love lavender. Makes a lovely tea too. I don’t have many flowers so I have to decide who gets the flowers me or the bees. I hope they get more flowers so I can have enough to use them for other things.
Thank you so much! I’m a huge fan of lavender-and I didn’t realize that the English were so much hardier. Now I know what I need to replace some things with! You make it so easy. Thank you for reading the info on the plants. It’s so basic but people just don’t do that! You’re so short, sweet and to the point! Love it! ❤️
Yay! I just purchased 4 lavender plants because I wanted to do my own science experiment with which I like best! Obviously, I want it to last, bloom, look gorgeous and be fragrant! I guess I better plant it in some soil that will suit these purposes!
Perfect for beginner lavender growers: Lavandula stoechas - Spanish Lav. - blooms year round in the heavy clay of my San Francisco Bay Area home (Hardiness zone 10a). I’m currently enjoying a flush of late December blossoms. Extremely drought tolerant and abundant flowering habit. After established, I basically ignore them. They grow 4 feet wide and feed the native bees.
My Spanish lavender smells like lavender and eucalyptus! Absolutely stunning. The less water the better the scent! I also have Sensational Lavender, double blooms! Thanks for your channel. 💜🌿
Thank You so much for posting this! This is SO helpful. Very informative and well explained. My husband and I grew up with our parents and grandparents growing beautiful gardens. Both flower & vegetable gardens. We did a little bit, took a break when we moved & had a baby. Last year we started again with a couple of herbs and cherry tomatoes. This year we're expanding. I have a half whiskey barrel that we're putting a couple blueberry bushes in. We're also potting a few lavender plants, which I'm extra excited for. I had my heart set on the English because I like plants and flowers that have more than one use. After watching your video, I definitely feel confident that I'm making the right decision.
I love Lavender! I have a few different varieties, but this year I bought a beautiful white variety (Lavender Augustofolia Arctic Snow) and also a beautiful pink lavender ( Lavender Augustofolia Rosea). So good for the bees and butterflies!
I thought I was the only one that didn’t like the smell.....well I just learned from you that I have the rosemary smelling ones. You mentioned they are herbs, but I remember reading some are not edible. And yes indeed, they need to be trimmed.....I have a large woody one that probably needs to come out, but when it blooms I get sidetracked and it’s still in the ground. I don’t have the heart to take out....even though I bought another 14 plants this year.
I'm a new subscriber. I almost didn't subscribe because I didn't want " information overload" on the same subjects. I am so happy that I continued to watch your channel. I was so blown away by your knowledge of lavenders. I'm now getting ready to watch your video on bananas and cannas. Yes, another subject I have a question on. The first video of yours that I watched was on edging the landscape. I love the precise but simple way you present your videos. I'm so happy and grateful I found your channel. I've been gardening for 25yrs plus! Learning, just like gardening, never goes out of style! Happy Gardening!
Fantastic video! I would just point out that despite the name, there is no such thing as “English” lavender. The English simply adopted the Mediterranean species best suited to their climate, which grows wild here in its native habitat in the foothills of the Alps in Provence, France. 🤗 Love learning about the growing habits of all these species and varieties. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this information! I've always wondered which was the stronger in fragrance. Thank You for your video and I'm looking forward to more. Blessings!
Excellent video--well done! Concise, nicely filmed, and just the information about lavender I was looking for. Thanks for all the effort you put into it. Much appreciated.
I just bought a Spanish Lavender Today! The instructions said it was good until -10 degrees. Then I watched a video that told me to dig a bowl around it and to fill the bowl up with water. This is so frustrating. Different sites have different care guides.
Thank you so much for the information, I research all I can about lavendar. I was curious about the pruning, I noticed that lavendar, phenomenal in particular, can become very woody. I do not prefer heavily woody lavendar. I bought three such plants last year and against all advice given here on UA-cam, I cut them way, way down into the wood, to the ground, in early spring this year in hopes of diminishing the woody growth this year. Fast forward to today and my plants grew back and are very fragrant with fresh new tender growth and almost no wood, it is all fresh new lavendar, thick and lush. Only difference I have noticed is that two of the 3 plants are not blooming but I think they are getting ready to send up spikes and bloom, they just seem to be delayed.
Thanks for such excellent info. I've had the best luck with Phenomenal Lavender, here in zone 7, very hot and humid with cold and wet winters. It's the only Lavender I've had any success with.
Pamela Gerber I’m in Lynnwood, hi neighbor! I’m trying to learn about lavender because I see so many wild lavender plants around I’m trying to identify if it’s safe.
Thank you so much for that wonderful information. I love lavanders and did I not know which one I could grow here in Florida. Now I think I'm going to try the Spanish one. We'll see! 💝💝
Very informative. Thank you. Every time I bought lavender it would immediately dry up. I felt like a failure! But I realize due t ok your video u should try french or Spanish varieties for my 8b hardiness zone! Really want that English scent and oils...but it's just not staying alive.
I just bought some of the new Spanish lavender (gorgeous) and I find that it wants a lot more water than the other varieties. I was treating it like my other lavender and they were very unhappy. I doubled their water and they bounced back. I love the artwork behind you!
You can get an English Lavender that grows in light shade / shade, called 'Arabian Nights ' it flowers from a bit later than others, but also longer into autumn . Great for flowers but not great for scent .
Thos was so helpful! I've just planted PW sweet romance lavender in our landscape and have 2 lavender topiary trees that I let dry a little too much 😭 so I was desperately looking for some extra cate info! Zone 7b NC 😊
What about humid heat like Florida? I bought 5 plants, 3 died and the other two looked good, but now one of those is looking half dead. We have VERY sandy soil.
Thanks for the info I can't seem to stop killing all the lavender plants I buy. I still have a little of the Spanish lavender and will put it in the ground tomorrow following your recommendations. We have had so much rain this week, Alabama clay will need sand and pebble I have left from fish tank mixed in. I know just the place a sunny sloped area near the stairs. I love the smell so I'll just keep trying. Love your videos always informative hope your nursery is booming :)
I am determined to grow lavender! I want a great fragrance in my yard. I buy plants & also grow fm seed. But i live in Fl & due to hot temps & drying out, it is difficult. Did i hear you say lavender is an annual? I thought it was a perennial.
I watched this to try to remember what kind I planted last year. 😂 I believe I have the silver one. Can I cut it back by 1/3 the same as the other types? 🤷♀️ Mine look great and I love the color! Still even looks great here in TN in March!
Hi! Maybe you can help me?!! I'm English and live in Greece and for years only managed to keep one Lavender plant which flowers every year. Have tried to propagate from it but with no success, it was grown from seed. Since then have managed to find Lavender here in garden shops, not sure which type but they have a flatter leaf and grow like crazy! Have managed to propagate this type by pegging stems into the ground but my problem is none of them flower except one which is on my parents grave, high on a hill in full sun with barely any water! The plants in my garden only put out a few flower spikes. Any advice greatly appreciated!
Simply lovely video.. Thank you.. Have you ever had any luck growing them indoors in pots? I have tried and they didn't make it at all. Any Ideas? Wondering if they need to go dormant like a gladiola or tulip for example. Thanks for sharing such great info with us.
Try the English. I live in zone 5 -- I water too much because they are next to a sprinkler (I didn't know at the time) -- we get 3 feet of snow on them with no mulch -- and my lavender is 3 ft tall and 3 ft wide. You can also grow it inside in a pot
My lavwnder is laying down on soil rather than standing up I watered them when they r dry & mix organic soil with sand soil before planting them but they look down & sad, in direct sun I dont know what else to do for them One of them turned bushy & gray i think it died
Does lavenders can grow in the tropical country? Is it normal for the lavenders to have little tiny worms in it when you dry those lavenders? How can you find the seeds of the lavenders in those flowers?
If I wait to spring to prune my French lavender it will have quite a few blooms coming up. Is this still advisable? Also mine has lots of woody stems which look horrible, any advice? Thank you, I really love all your video's.
Hello! I have a question,I just bought my first Spanish Lavender and I read that it’s toxic for pets. I currently have mine on a pot and it has bloomed already. My cat goes around the front yard and he just played or sits besides the plants ( frankly he doesn’t kill them 😂) So this is my question, will Spanish lavender be toxic for my cat if I plant it later on flat ground and he’s around ? Thank you !
I love how you explain plants, after I watch you, I have a real understanding on proper care for my plants, thank you 😊
What I like about you Debbie, is not only are you a great Gardner and you get right to the teaching of planting, but also, you do it being yourself, unlike some who turn it into a Hollywood fashion show of them selves, thanks for all you do!
Debbie Ventimiglia Awww very sweet comment. Thank you!

Lavender is one of my favorite flowers, thank you for your information, I have learnt a lot from your video.
I like what she said, "Don't cut it all the way to the ground".😊
Thank you for an excellent informative video
VERY Helpful and useful information
My Spanish lavender smells like lavender and eucalyptus! Absolutely stunning. The less water the better the scent! I also have Sensational Lavender, double blooms! Thanks for your channel. 💜🌿

I live in Russia in the Moscow region and English lavender blooms and winters here, thanks for your video.
Татьяна Панфилова hello from the United States.
Heat tolerance is the big issue for me (Texas, Zone 9). So it’s Spanish lavender for me!
I am experimenting with some lavander in the tropic... thanks for the info

I live in Sequim, Washington. Beautiful town with beautiful lavender farms. Lavender Festival the 3rd weekend in July. Come visit sometime! 😎

Colleen Lassie They need lots of sunshine!
I heard lavender plants can help repel pesky mosquitos.
*highly* informative; thank you
I love Lavender but I live in south East Asia that have high humidity. Its so difficult to grow Lavender 😞😞

Those Spanish! They have the most flair.
Thank you so much very informative
White lavenders are also very nice.
My lavwnder is laying down on soil rather than standing up
I watered them when they r dry & mix organic soil with sand soil before planting them but they look down & sad, in direct sun
I dont know what else to do for them
One of them turned bushy & gray i think it died
Love your blog ,can't understand why refer to plants as male .
Which kind is best for tea?
Does lavenders can grow in the tropical country?
Is it normal for the lavenders to have little tiny worms in it when you dry those lavenders?
How can you find the seeds of the lavenders in those flowers?
Worms are not normal. Seeds can be had once flowers are dry. Just shake loose. Lavender needs cold winters in order to thrive. :)
Thanks

No, it's o.k. I have it all over, and my cats have been fine.
@@GardenStylenw Thank you very much !!!! 💙
What about mixing when planting?
Which variety is best a mosquito repellent? I'm in zone 6b which variety would be best for my region and purpose?
English Lavender for sure!
Garden Style nw thanks so much for the advise! You've got my sub.
Thank you!
Love your videos. Would planting lavender around my Rose's stop deer?
Dee McKinney , If you want to stop deer, use Liquid Fence which you can get at Lowes or Home Depot...it works for me!
Yes! It will help to dter them. :)
Kathy Ryan Doesn't work for my mother. It didn't deter anything. Glad you had good luck.
Thank you
I live in Malaysia, a tropical (hot and sometimes dry) weather. Which one I can plant?
I am guessing Spanish.
great and informative
