I must admit, I was surprised at how good this game was. I feel it was really unfairly treated and I made my own video on why it needs a sequel. I really hope it does get the love it deserves as time goes on.
It's already become a cult classic but I think sadly there's no proof that it's a franchise with legs. Above all else, games have to make money to get sequels.
@@goukigodI agree but I think with the right studio the squeal could be a big hit. This first game laid out such a strong foundation. This really predates the PS 3rd person story games we love to play nowadays. This fits right into their wheel house. They should try to stir up interest by releasing it on their PS Plus platform. I think it’ll get a lot of plays
I really wish this got a sequel. I just finished it. It plays very much like an amazing first draft of something. I think with everything Sony has learnt about cinematic single player games they could nail a sequel
Very true. I think unfortunately there's no proof it would sell and the people who made it have move on. I suppose another studio could pick it up but I get the feeling that a proper sequel would need to be built using an updated version of the RAD engine to feel right.
I picked this up on sale for 5 bucks a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised. I thought the graphics were amazing and the gameplay of third person shooting was as good as other shooters of the time. And I actually enjoyed the story myself. I consider it a short but sweet experience. Certainly got my money's worth and then some. Great video btw. Keep up the good work! Cheers!
Very good video. I don't play a lot of cinematic games that are light on mechanics, but sometimes they can be fun as a palette cleanser. I played thorugh this between Christmas and New Year, a couple of years back and I found that this wasn't committing any worse sins than the likes of Uncharted, plus, like you, I thoroughly enjoyed the setting and atmosphere.
I think if you put its gunplay side by side with uncharted or the last of us, there's little difference. Like I said in the video, Naughty Dog just mix things up enough that you never get tired of it.
It would be awesome to see Bluepoint to remake this in 4k 60fps. I loved this game, and to this day, it puts many current games to shame. This game is unfairly underrated.
@@goukigodyet lot of ppl absolutely despise them because they find their remakes "shallow" and soulless... demon's souls above all and also Shadow of the Colossus. I don't know man, I like em a lot but I didn't play the original of those so I can't say..... but graphically they are masters, and with this base game already being a graphical masterpiece, it would be dope for sure!
@@S_F_S I haven't played Shadow or Demon but I thought their remaster of the uncharted games was excellent and the port of Titanfall was nothing short of a miracle!
This game is much better than history says, but given I got a copy for 10 dollars. I understand the complaints, and it isn't perfect. But there's so much going for it. Sad to think this engine isn't getting dusted off for a PS5 outing. This game deserves a sequel. Awesome world design.
I just picked this up and I’m a little over halfway through (don’t care about spoilers for this one). You’re right, it isn’t a horrible game. It’s fun and it looks incredible. More than anything, it just gives you a glimpse of what they *could’ve* done and where they *could’ve* gone, and THAT is the horrible part. The game is decent, even good in many ways. But where it lacks, holy shit, does it ever lack.
I think another 12 months in the oven was needed to expand on the ideas in it. It just needs a little something more gameplay-wise and a more satisfying ending

I absolutely don't mind shorter games as I, as well, don't have the time as much as I did in the past. For me a story well told needs a certain amount of time, can be 2 hours, 8, sometimes waaaay more. The problem is, that The Order doesn't take the time it needs to tell it's story, it tells -half- it's story and then leaves me hanging with a cliffhanger and a dozen unanswered questions and things not resolved and then has the audacity to tease a sequel. Do the best you can, finish your game, finish the story, you can still leave some backdoor open for a sequel, but don't go in expecting one. That is a mistake that movies make and The Order also fell for it.
I thought it was a great game and great story. One of the best weapons ever in any game with the exploding air mist thing. My only disappointment was you cannot skip cutscenes even after beating it thus killing the replay vibe.
Heaps of developers don't think about this. I just played dead space 3 which was intentionally designed for multiple play throughs and you can't skip any of the lengthy cutscenes.
I always think it got the 'about right' review: It's a game with tons of efforts inside, just all on the impressive artwork and graphics. It's clearly unfinished, and the less said about the story the better. I think the problem is less how it was reviewed but why we are more forgiving toward games with good story/gameplay and bad graphic, but not games with good graphic and bad story/gameplay. This may not be as justified as it feels.
An interesting point. If games truly are art, then why can't a game's aesthetic or artistic expression be strong enough to compensate for poor gameplay or a boring story. I think because games are interactive media, how they feel to play and how well they are able to draw you into their narrative is ultimately more important than what they look like. It's easy for a game's visuals to immerse you in a world but just as easy for that immersion to be broken when the controls fail you. Conversely, if a game provides you with enough agency, your imagination can fill in the blanks if the visuals are lacking.
This game was for me 9.5 out of 10, no question about it. Incredible graphic, physics, great story, perfect cgi, sick combat a lenght? I played on Hard give or take 10 hours? Its twice as long as any CoD today, and 3x as long because usually after 3 hours I am bored. Plus I played it for 10 euro... Thx Extravision (RIP) that scene in old hospital, when you are being chase by elder vampire is INSANE and looks like real
I think had this game come out in this state today, the developer might have been given that chance to turn things around. Games were still considered mostly done at launch back then. Sure, you still had the day one patch but that was mainly to fix technical issues. I think the live service model as it is today might have meant that they could have shipped content and structural changes that might have changed people's minds about it. Imagine if it got new weapons, missions, or even a more conclusive ending for free. It wouldn't have fixed what is fundamentally an unfinished game but the goodwill and opportunity to showcase the franchise's potential may have saved it.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but I think sometimes people want something to be more than it is. I think the marketing in this case played a large part in that.
@@goukigod if I am not mistaken there is even a line of dilogía where she says he needs to get her fathers blessing if he wants to keep her safe. So it’s 2 cutscenes. After you are carrying issy after her back is broken she says “we deserve better, together” then as they exit the hospital he is trying to help her walk when she says she is fine he says “will there ever be a time when you head my advice” she says “you know that answer to that question, but you would need to get fathers blessing first”
