Skyrim makes me feel so cozy. Heading to Breezehome after raiding a Dwemer ruin, waiting forever for my chest to load all of my hoarded loot, receiving gifts from my adopted children, eating dinner with my wife Ysolda, awkwardly walking past Lydia to sleep in my bedroom, only to head out the next day to find Adrianne the blackmith has been reduced to a pile of ash by a vampire attack, enlist with the Dawnguard for revenge, become a Vampire Lord instead; It's all so beautiful. Also, never forget the flying mammoths.
I wonder if there's a mod to make adopted children fight alongside you. I made my duty to always bring my daughters the best daggers i could find in quests, alongside the usual books and treats, and would be nice being both their mother and master

@@dragonballhaven1417 The assets themselves might be dated, but you can alleviate that with mods. In contrast, the visual design is genuinely masterful.

I spent a summer in Skyrim with my wife years ago . We couldn’t get enough and had a non existent social life . She discovered the game and I set up multiple monitors in the living room , for us . A completely great experience at the Time.
Skyrim came out when I was in highschool and I mostly played it over the summer. Waking up, breakfast, turn on the AC on freezing and play Skyrim. god I miss those days.
I believe Skyrim’s graphics are beautiful in a way like a Monet painting. It’s in no way sharp, extremely detailed, nor realistic. However, the scenery, the vibrancy, and the somehow simultaneous simplicity and complexity has a certain charm.
@Alvi Syahri You're not gonna believe this, but I'm playing skyrim right now, and it crashed so I was using my phone waiting for it to reopen and I got this message. Damn.
I first started playing Fallout a few years ago with Fallout 4. I had tons of fun, believe it made a great introduction to the series, with a simple yet captivating storyline, a RPG system that worked just fine and some great interactions between characters. Then I played fallout New Vegas, which sincerely looks more like a Mad Max universe than a post nuclear apocalypse, but the Gambling system was really fun to use. Then this year I played 76... OKAY YEAH IT SUCKS ON "SOLO", but if you gather a few friends it can really be a great way to have fun. Me and the bois liked to go bunkers on West Virginia and it was pretty damn good. What I believe happens is that the previous games had a similar vibe that worked out greatly, and the most recent ones try new styles, which sometimes backfires or people dislike it because it's not the same as before. I for myself am very happy that many franchises are trying to rewind some games with a fresh new look, and as long as you have fun or a good experience playing a game, I believe it achieved it's purpose. I might be the only guy that actually liked Mass Effect Andromeda and No Man's Sky, soooooooooo....
One tidbit on the archery section, as an archery instructor, you actually do aim "lower" on close targets. It still felt sort of intuitive to me because at short range, because of the angle of your eye to the arrow tip, you actually do aim the tip of the arrow sometimes WELL below the target. It's why when you see bows with sights on them the sights are so high up and sometimes have multiple prongs to aim with to account for nearer and farther targets
was just about to mention this! path of trajectory. arrows in archery and rifle rounds on the range too! both go slightly upwards with all that force behind them before gravity pulls back down.
I think we can all agree that without Jeremy Soule, Skyrim would be a complete different experience. The soundtrack combined with the atmosphere of the game is still to this date brilliant.
I play skyrim atleast 4 times a year. I almost never finish it. I just make a new character and go explore the world. Even after all these years I still seem to find something I hadn't found before
I've put hundreds of hours into it and there's still things I've never seen and questlines I've never done. Meanwhile Cyberpunk has like 40 hours of actual quality gameplay.
Skyrim is the first game both me and my daughter loved. Got special edition for xbox 360, xbox 1, PS4 and Playstation VR. We love this game is an understatement. The first gift I ever made my daughter was the blade of woe out of wood. The dark brotherhood is her fav faction.
@@shadowswithin702 I know right? I tried a bit after Christmas. When I crouched in the water it looked like it was right up to my chest. Could almost literally feel the coldness of the water.
You must be a 3 year old who loves games that hold your hand and always tell you what you need to do without you having to figure anything out on your own
I try to avoid listening to the Skyrim music outside of the game because when you load into the game and hear that music after not playing for a while it freaking hits you
Growing up I was a very quiet kid and always kept to myself and never talked to people, but when my parents got me Skyrim for my birthday it helped change me. I would get lost in the world for hours just wandering around taking in the amazing views and listening to all the sounds the game offered me, the music was always great and helped soothe my social anxiety to the point when I would go to school I could actually have a conversation with someone. Might sound dumb but Skyrim gave me hope when I couldn’t give it to myself, it gave me freedom, and it helped me get out of the dark places in my head. This game is easily my favorite rpg of all time and definitely my favorite game in general. The memories I’ve made and had with this game is why I love Skyrim.
Might be that I'm getting old, but I never understood why people shit on Skyrim's graphics so much. That is literally the most often cited criticism I've heard of the game. Yes, obviously today's games look better, and obviously modded graphic packs make the game look more stunning, but in my opinion, Skyrim's vanilla graphics are already on a level that after a couple minutes of play, I'd completely forget about these minor details and be immersed in the world.
Don Korb it’s the same logic people use when they say “ I can’t believe this is still happening in *insert year*”. They think because tech is better now that it should have been that way then. But Skyrim was pretty impressive visually to me. Still is
I don't understand that one either.. I started playing Skyrim on 360 and was floored by the graphic's and the details. Bug's ..sure, glitches...yep. That very 1st aurora, I mean holy crap! from 11-11-11 to now, I still play - though on a heavy mod'd PC game - Yes I could have a photo real mod, but I just enhanced what was there. My mod's are mostly combat and AI changes..err and a lot, I mean a lot of armor mods and Character beauty enhancements ( NO not that kind )
One of my best memories is being so excited to have bought Honeyside in Riften back in middle school. It was my own little cozy thieves' den, in that wonderful, warm, autumnal city... Until I turned around to head down the stairs, only to see my mannequin just staring at me, faceless, from the bottom of the steps. To this day, I've never set foot in that fucking hellhole again.
Was it that home or the one in Solitude where the mannequin actually moves around the house? Creepy shit! I think I heard it really was an accidental glitch but still!
@@danieldavis8607 In my case, it was Riften's Honeyside! I never bought a home in Solitude, since I've always been a Stormcloak player...and I never wanted to go near a house with a mannequin again, so I stick with my ol' faithful modded Breezehome!

It's because It's a cultural landmark that was a massive part of a whole generations upbringing and it feels good to play it because it brings you back to a simpler time and has become synonymous with relaxation and careless fun.
The greatness of the Elder Scrolls games lie in their scope. Whenever they come out, they're a bit clunkier than they should be but the sheer scope of what you can do always surpasses other contemporary games by a lot. So I can overlook some of the wooden NPC dialogue and random bugs because the world is so open and enormous it's outshines all of the negatives.
Its funny because I enjoy the wooden dialogue and use of few voice actors for NPCs, it somehow gave the games charm. Unintentionally hilarious when two visually different looking NPCs talk to each other with the same voice. Plus the lines are quotable as hell especially in Oblivion and Skyrim. "By the gods, there's a psychopath on the loose" or "My cousin's out there fighting dragons and what do I get, guard duty".
2 years late but one month early to add that it's not only Elder Scrolls, Bethesda are pioneers in the game industry. It's not about achieving the very best graphical and gameplay performance within its timeline. It's about creating new concepts and innovating on what drives the player, through the screen. Why one month early? Because Starfield will soon be launching and i have zero doubts that the game will be forever remembered. I don't expect it to be bug-free nor short of some issues that others games may have already solved, matter of fact, i don't expect anything from Bethesda RPG's and i still get pleasantly surprised.
@@TotallyNotJoe_ oh my God, I just wanna puke from reading my own comment. Starfield, as you say, it's utterly disappointing and the most unseasoned RPG I think I've played. Honestly, just "going for a walk" in Skyrim is one of my favourite things. Enjoy the landscapes, enjoy the music, enjoy mowing through a dungeon full of draugr.
On my first playthrough this was sadly something I missed entirely. I fast traveled everywhere once I knew I could and missed out on a TON of hidden gems.
Honestly every time I try to explain why it’s a masterpiece I get different explanations. It’s just a good game man. And I love the farming, like you don’t even need to farm for loot you’re just likely to get loot normally
Frankly, I can go on at length about the issues with Skyrim. I understand why a lot of people find it disappointing as an RPG. Doesn't mean I'm not going to turn it on once every two years or so and put in another 100 hours.
@@Corrupted I wouldn't say it's "product"-feeling, but there are a lot of aspects that clearly were designed to be mass-produced first and hand-crafted second. The melee combat is a big offender. There's still a hell of a lot of content, and very little of it has NOTHING to throw you off, hence why I keep finding new things. Even if most locations in Skyrim only have one thing that sets them apart from every other crypt in the same genre, I've played games that don't even reach *that* standard, and I naturally didn't play them for something like 500 hours over ten years.
I have played through Skyrim at least ten times. Every time I say "I'm going to try a different type of gameplay!". EVERY time I end up being a stealthy archer.
I love being a stealth mage. Use illusion to go invisible and charge up a master level destruction spell, destroying everyone before going invisible again and walking away
If you want a fun one to switch it up try an unarmed kajit build. Literally breaks the game it's amazing. And the finishing moves for unarmed attacks are BRUTAL.

For me, Skyrim basically feels like home at this point. I know the land so well, I'm comfortable in every inch of it. Nothing is ever gonna stress me out when I go there like with most other games. That's what video games are meant to do, and this one delivers on that more than nearly any other. Nothing beats playing Skyrim for the first time through VR. Going into the game, I had no idea what to expect, but putting the headset on, it really felt like I was in a fantasy world. Having to manually aim and pull the bowstring is so immersive
I loved Skyrim for one simple thing: Freedom. The freedom to go and do anything I wanted to do and make builds super overpowered and broken. Also, the mods man. The mods.
But there was nothing of any actual substance to do.. Everything in that game could be boiled down to 'go in X cave/dungeon/tomb, kill everything, get Y item, return to main hub area and sell all the trash you picked up'. Exploring and leveling up to get stronger was fun but there were no interesting stories or characters in that world to actually make you care about anything. The world felt full of life and lifeless at the same time because of it.
@@darko1295 i really love the inigo mod, best companion imo. he has an actual character ark too and you get to see his thoughts in specific areas. i agree with you that most quests do that, but that quest in markarth where you either slay ever guard in the city or you go to jail and have a huge breakout is so fun. Also dark brotherhood questline? Civil war was so hyped up but was a huge letdown, but the blades thing is above average, not amazing but the meeting and going to sovngarde is really cool. i think that a lot of the dungeon quests can be unique like blackreach and hunting down karliah and mercer frey, and the miraak temple was really sick at the end.
The atmosphere in this game, all that iconic lines of npc's, even the animations of characters are heart warming at this point. Skyrim is not just an ordinary game. It's our part.

Lol, I walked into my home once and I saw the mannequins running around for a few seconds and then suddenly stopped in their current animation. Sometimes I wonder if Skyrim is actually a horror game..
I played Oblivion for about 30 minutes before I decided it was a horror game. It was my first ever first-person RPG and it was creepy AF. Never picked it back up... With Skyrim I was already heavily invested before bugs like this became horrific. I was so deep in I couldn't back out... yet I regret nothing.
I was 10 years old when I saw them blink it freaked me out the next day they were walking around and I was afraid to go back into my 10000+ gold house.
“What about Ysolda, who’s secretly been running a meth business the whole time?” Me, having sunk hundreds of hours into the game at this point: “MY WIFE IS RUNNING A METH BUSINESS?! WE HAVE TWO KIDS AND A FOX!”
16:20 I’ve shot in archery competitions since I was 12 years old, and I can tell you from experience that when you don’t have sights on a bow, you don’t aim right at your target. Sure, our bows only had a maximum of 25 lbs of pull back, significantly less than what the long bows in Skyrim would have, but even 10m away from the target I’d have to aim almost at the bottom of the target to hit a bullseye. I know, I know, it’s just a video game, and the English long bow had ~100lbs of pull, but having to aim lower the intended target was something I appreciated, even it doesn’t make sense. Archery was really fun when I tried Skyrim vr because of the crazy shots I could try that I never could in competition 😂😂

Honestly, the moment Skyrim became truly immortal, is when Bethesda basically gave people the keys to Skyrim, and said to just make more for ourselves. Thus, Skyrim Modding came into existence. The shear number of mods available, for FREE by the way, is staggering. Got bored of something. Install this neat mod, that does basically nothing but make the world look a bit cooler, and play through the nite game again. Skyrim has become an near eternal toy for people to play with, as they add more and more pieces, until they make something basically there own, a basically unique selection of mods, unique to them, there own personal Skyrim.
That is how I always think about Doom and Skyrim. They're quite identical when it comes to how well-known they are:they're both old but gold, people all over the world love it with passion, you can play them on pretty much anything and the mods make them either into something more enhanced or a completely different game. Id Software's Doom and Bethesda's Skyrim are basically the gamer's most loyal friends that cemented their legacies into the history of games, unchanged by the time itself.
Skyrim was my first AAA game, I’ll never forget my 12th birthday staying up until 3:00 am with a friend playing Skyrim for the first time, and then my dad finding out and taking away my computer for a week
Vyacheslav Molotov I think the people who made it got caught having stolen another modders code or some shit. Also, it doesn’t work well enough to be playable, and they made loads of money out of it even though it turned out pretty shit.
that thing about rorikstead is cool, but they forgot about the book that farengar says could date back to the first era, and it mentions rorikstead, but the FOUNDER of the place is very much alive.

@@urfork1 It usually happens when you have too many mods installed. The opening sequence is probably the second most finicky part of the entire game, It's usually the first thing that breaks in a modded playthrough. It can just give up on its own as well, breaking for no reason despite having no mods.
I can speak only for myself, and for me the combat system's simplicity is one of the best things about the game. I play a game to have fun, not be driven mad by complicated mechanics - perhaps it's my age (72).
combat doesn't have to be complicated to be fun, for example dark messiah of might and magic is pretty similar, except combat is more dangerous and you have to actually think.
we gotta give props to the sound guys! had a teacher my freshman year, whos son worked on skyrim's sound team! got to hear a couple pretty cool stories about the work he did. Teacher was a pretty genuine guy! only had him for a few months. he was a long term substitute teacher, but wish i could remember his name.
The first time I played Skyrim I was dedicated to creating a mage so I immediately went to Winterhold. That walk to the other side of the map made me love the game, so much to see and do. Immersive
I did the same thing. It was a personal quest to get to the college, not something that was in the quest log which made it that much more immersive! Good times.
I think the walk to the other side of the map was more exciting than being in the college. I WANTED TO LEARN NOT TO GO IN A MISSION AND TURN MYSELF INTO THE PRINCIPAL MAGE.
Me too. I always played a mage before Skyrim. But I quickly realized, that magic sucked in the vanilla game and being a stealthy archer was so much fun! Skyrim taught me to diversify my builds. My latest character is fighting with a sword and I love it!
Arrows apparently pulling upwards in the first few meters of flight is actually realistic, due to the dynamics of how energy is transferred to the arrow and aerodynamics.
Not only that but it is also realistic because most cross-hairs are zeroed for the most common medium range. Meaning shooting something closer will hit higher. It is the consequence of trying to approximate an arc with a straight line.
Arcwind Point is my favourite location. Whenever I'm finished with a character and want to do another playthrough, I first part way with my followers then venture up to Arcwind. Fighting through deathlords and a dragon, I finally reach the top of the watchtower and take in the view while reflecting on all my time in the world.
It's more of an old friend whom you never get tired of. You come back and spend a lot of time together reminiscing and thinking of the beauty that you shared together
I remember my dad playing this game on the couch when I was around 5 years old or 7 years old. When I was 10 years old my dad bought us both the Special Edition. I didn't know what to think of Skyrim at first. He said "It's the best game ever. Especially the music."I decided to give it a chance. So I played this & each moment I started becoming more & more obsessed with the game. I started played this for hours & I would barely get off my couch because I loved this game soooooooooo much. I even began watching Skyrim videos on UA-cam. My favorite character was Serana. I think Skyrim is one of the games I would definitely come back to playing.
What I love about Skyrim is that not only does it feel like you're in an actual world but still to this day, am finding out new stuff that I didn't know about. That's what you call a good game 👌
No, what you call a good game is a game that doesn't hold your hand and give you a mini map and fast travel, and direct you to every single place you need to go. That shit is weak as fuck. GOOD games let you figure it out on your own without holding your hand like you're a fucking baby
Skyrim is my personal favourite game I've played so far in my short life because it provides me with that world I know I can fall back into at a moments notice
I remember the moment it sunk in for me that I really loved the game. It was after I'd climbed to the top of the Throat of the World for the VERY first time ever to talk to Parthurnaax. It was around 6 pm when I got there and the clouds cleared as night moved in so the northern lights were up. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face, it was beautiful. I'll never forget how epic that conversation was.
Too bad you aren't into challenging games and enjoy games built for children, that hold your hand every step of the way, tell you exactly where to go, and make it generally as easy as possible. You should try something with a real challenge. It's much more satisfying.
its kinda how i feel about bungie n destiny. fuck bungie. but i love destiny. D1 that is, d2 (not even spellin it with a capital d) is an unplayable chore of a game
I didn't love Skyrim. It's as stable as dynamite in an oven and the entirety of its content is doing the same shit over and over and over and over and OVER AND OVER AND OVER. And you can't even do it in peace because you'll be interrupted by a fucking dragon every fifteen minutes. SOMETIMES BY TWO AT ONCE. I hope you've been leveling Shields! Had enough dragonbone to build a fucking metropolis and enough souls to make Soul Edge obese.
I love Skyrim. I've played it my whole life, exploring the world truly was never something I did. It's amazing how you can play a game for so long and only know a fraction of what it has to offer.
I love how we are all convinced that Bethesda has seen its best days, but we still look forward to TES6. It's almost like we view TES as separate from Bethesda, like it's a franchise that's epic by default. I really hope Bethesda doesn't shatter this illusion we all have...
I honestly think their best days are ahead. They've clearly learned what their fans like and want. Starfields going to make or break BGS, so im sure their going to do whatever they can to make it perfect.
Idk man, you really think any company, after experincing such a massive failure, would want to continue to be such a failure right after? I’m sure they are going to look back at what formulas made them much profits in the first place, that being top quality single player only game, with no mtx.
Morrowind. Morrowind is the reason we have Skyrim today and possibly every other open world RPG since 2011. It saved Bethesda and let them make oblivion and Skyrim. Go back to TES Bethesda, save yourself.
We to do the fortify restoration loop, get a potion that improves smithing for about... I dunno, 3786521% sounds about right... Yup, one piece of firewood and a grindstone later we're ready to one shot Alduin. With a kid's toy.
It's funny. Once you look at Skyrin objectively, it doesn't seem that good. It's glitchy, it's buggy. It lacks a lot of RPG elements and depth. Combat is meh. Yet it still managed to blow all of us away when we played it for the first couple of times. Astounding.
You had me agreeing until you said it manged to blow us all away. Nope. Easy ass game. Child's play. I literally know 5 year olds who have beaten this fucking game. TOO EASY. I was exposed to Skyrim at age 10-11 (shortly after its release) because my brother played it. He let me create a character and play around for an hour, and I was instantly in love with it. I still remember my first night in Skyrim. I begged my parents to get it, and in a few months (I had to wait for holidays to get games) I had it at last. Thus began my eight-or-nine year plunge into the Elder Scrolls Franchise; I've since played over 1000 hours in the game, practically memorized entire questlines, and yet still find something new to do in the game to this day. I honestly don't think I would be the person I am today without Skyrim -- it gave me a love for fantasy, a love for video games, and so much more. I know it hasn't aged well, but I still absolutely adore it.
I'm okay with people talking shit about modern Bethesda, but saying Skyrim was and always was bad? No. Skyrim is a damn masterpiece and always has been.

skyrim taught me how to enjoy video games. its like an old musty book that you love to take out on rainy days, not really even to read sometimes, just to smell the pages and remember all the good times.
Skyrim with mods reignited my love of video games. Everything from hunting Thalmor for sport to genuinely having fleshed out and detailed conversations with overhauled NPCS reignited my love for the entire medium of gaming. also, hunting Thalmor for sport is the official favorite pastime of all actual good people in this world, that is an objective fact.

After fallout 76 Bethesda no longer gets to the cloud district very often.
Nazeem we hate you
Love everybody
Catch these hands nazeem i dont want you thinking youre the shit
Edward Sawyer not only Mad Max IS a post-nuclear apocalypse (seriously), Fallout is largely based on Mad Max. It's more blatant in the first games.
Of course they don't

@Christopher Marlowe alzheimer: let me introduce myself
Not really. It was mostly hype. It was the newest thing on the menu, but it wasn't that great. It wasn't earth shattering.
Same here man
Idk how people complain about the graphics they seem pretty realistic to me, i wish developers spent more time making games fun instead of realistic

And some things break free of Skyrim. Forgotten City was a mod, but the dev remade it as its own standalone game, which reviewed pretty well!
Skyrim was my first AAA game, I’ll never forget my 12th birthday staying up until 3:00 am with a friend playing Skyrim for the first time, and then my dad finding out and taking away my computer for a week
Well, the "Skyrim Together" part of this video certainly hasn't aged well.
What happened with it?
Vyacheslav Molotov I think the people who made it got caught having stolen another modders code or some shit. Also, it doesn’t work well enough to be playable, and they made loads of money out of it even though it turned out pretty shit.

Woah what was the glitch?
@@urfork1 the carriage starts flying and ragdolling everywhere while ralof is speaking, its hilarious, just look it up
@@urfork1 It usually happens when you have too many mods installed. The opening sequence is probably the second most finicky part of the entire game, It's usually the first thing that breaks in a modded playthrough. It can just give up on its own as well, breaking for no reason despite having no mods.
@@dragonlord1935 never had many glitches in skyrim tbh
I can speak only for myself, and for me the combat system's simplicity is one of the best things about the game. I play a game to have fun, not be driven mad by complicated mechanics - perhaps it's my age (72).
Ah well, you're never too old to play games man.
And for me its the same and I'm only 15 haha.
combat doesn't have to be complicated to be fun, for example dark messiah of might and magic is pretty similar, except combat is more dangerous and you have to actually think.

we gotta give props to the sound guys! had a teacher my freshman year, whos son worked on skyrim's sound team! got to hear a couple pretty cool stories about the work he did.

The same can be applied to guns, even bullets go slightly upwards at first.
neeeeeeerd
I was going to comment this exact same thing, thanks lol
Not only that but it is also realistic because most cross-hairs are zeroed for the most common medium range. Meaning shooting something closer will hit higher. It is the consequence of trying to approximate an arc with a straight line.

Silverscale Derg i mean not really. The Dragonborn’s whole purpose is to Fight Alduin and save the world. This happens every couple thousand years because it’s the Dragonborn’s destiny to do so.
