First time here, subscribed and will be binge watching all of your videos when I get the chance! Great tutorial, I lost a lot of my plants through a bad depression but I’m moving home and taking all my pots with me to start another jungle and a fresh chapter! Thanks for the lovely energy and top tips, appreciate you 🌿🤍✨
There are two types of people. The ones who rub yogurt on their new pots to make them look aged. And the people who scrub the patina off their pots to make them look new.
I love my plants and finding the right home or planter for my friend is so cool 😀I inherited terricota pots and 300 lbs potting soil Thanks so much for helping keep their place nice 👍🏻
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I really appreciate you more than you know. I'm new to the plant family and I get so sad when my plants struggle and wondered what to do with the clay pots when they got that white stuff on them.
I've read somewhere that vinegar while being a herbicide, should't damage the roots. However the last time I did this, I just soaked them again in clean water, I imagine the water "pulls" out most of the acetic acid in the terracotta material again or at least reducing the concentration. Well maybe also because I used 100% vinegar, I'll try mixing it with warm water next time :)
Thank you this is so useful! Is there a way to prevent this from happening? Like something you can paint or oil on the outside at least? I have chronic pain so if I can possibly avoid scrubbing it really helps.
@@captainprincess5943 thank you! I have heard of neem oil for pests. I've heard of spraying a solution on the leaves, but are you saying to put it on the outside of the pot?
@@katyb2793 oh, definitely! Of course, not slathered/dripping and sticky with the stuff. I use it like furniture polish. Just a puddle on a damp cloth, squeeze a bit to get it across the rag, and rub on the outside. Keep rubbing if it is too sticky. I switch to a dry cloth if it is still tacky, it will start to shine. If I'm particularly lazy, or trating a plant that's potted, I just spray it with what I spray the plant with and rub it off like any other surface. This doesn't get it shiny, and I suppose it won't act as a barrier like the other method. ETA: This vinegar method in the video is exactly how I clean mine. I learned first hand the importance of letting them dry throughly! This year, am going to try baking them at around 200° to 220°F for 45 minutes to an hour and let them cool completely. (Like you would with cast iron skillets) Wow, as I am typing this, I realize I'm essentially about to season my terra cotta with neem oil! Well, experimentation is the best way to learn, right...?
This is insane. lol. (Crying as you wash these!) Just trade me!!! Im scowering the internet and thrifting for ones that look like yours! Hahaha ❤ I also place my new ones outside by the fence hoping theyll get nasty!

What a reverse attitude, when there's dozens of videos where people PAINT!! the patina on. And they never clean up to look like new! She's replaced with a new pot ... you know, slight of hand. 😅
I like the patina, Patina adds character.
Why would she do this? This was painful to watch......................
Patina makes pots look appreciated. Some algae and moss with a little white mineral says, "this is an old pot and proud of it".

A great way of avoiding plastic too 👍

I usually find some nice clay pots at the thrift store for very cheap. they’re always very dirty with deposits. Now I can clean them properly. Thanks!

I appreciate such an easy cleaning method. I have many dirty pots!
I like mine to look old & vintage. When I buy new pots I add paint to give the illusion of age.
Watching this in Feb 2022. Thanks for the info!
Love that you included an abbreviated version! Super helpful video, thank you. :)
Thank you, Kathleen!
Thank you for this!! Been trying to figure this out for a while. The buildup sometimes kills your plant

The build up and discoloration is part of the charm of the pots.
Great tips and wonderful commentary.
That is exactly what I was looking for. How long do you leave it soaking?
I love clean terra cotta pots but I love the look of the minerals on the outside that build up... I’m torn lol but thank you for the tips!
Hi Theresa! I completely agree with you 😊. Mercy, peace and love be multiplied to you.
Same
I also love the mabling
It totally figures that I just potted 3 dirty ones! When I repot I know what to do! Thank you 😊
I like this..m eye balling the mixing solution. She is my kinda gal!
Thank you for sharing. I buy so many used pots and didn't know how to clean safely. This was great advice!
Thank you for the tips, going to help so much for my garden
Any tips for if you have extra large or tall pots? Can these be coated in the solution and left before scrubbing instead of soaking?
I enjoyed this tutorial. You were great in describing what we should do.
Thank you, Carole!
Thank you for taking time to teach us how to do this.
Thanks for this. I've got loads of janky pots I'd love to reuse 👍
Do you know how to clean/sterilize ceramic pits with attached drip trays?
That’s amazing! Thank you for sharing!!!
Thank you just got 3 beautiful pots and had no clue how to restore the. To their former beauty.

I use a wire brush. And I soak them in white vinegar. Then scrub them again.

What percent vinegar did you use ?
what would you do to clean pots that had plants with scale infestation on them?
Bleach and water. 1 part bleach to 9 parts water.
thank you for the video!
Thank you!
WOW, thank you
Thanks
They look better old. IMO
how do you clean a big pot without removing the plant thats the question
Try soaking cloths in the water/vinegar mixture and hang them on the planter
This is better than bleach?
Yes, better.
why would you want to remove that patina!!!??? I paint my new ones with yogurt to encourage that...
Why Clean the inside?
John 3:16
In my experience, the mould comes back rather quickly.
did not share how to clean large pots
That's what I waa looking for too
