Great info! I had a bunch of questions rolling around, keeping me from getting started and you answered them all. I think I'll compromise by doing black geometric designs with lots of negative space so I keep as much of the moisture-wicking properties of the terracotta. Thanks!!
ooo now i understand why my attempt at this failed miserably, the "paints are ready to pot". 2:11 All jokes aside, this how to vid was very helpful; thank you!
Hi there! Thank you for the great vid! Questions..when sealing the pot prior to painting, do you spray inside and outside? Also if you are only painting the lower portion of a pot, should you still seal the entire pot or just where you will be painting? Lastly, do you seal after painting as well? Thanks! :)
Hi!! I seal the inside and outside. Theoretically just sealing the outside would work, but I generally do both just to make sure no moisture can get through. I don't seal over top of the paint if i'm using an acrylic paint that is self-sealing (like a lot of DecoArt's paints). Have fun painting!!
Hey, love the pots! Question, clay pots are also great for helping the plant breathe, but I’m unsure if I want to give that up. Is there something you recommend to help keep this factor or is there nothing I can do and it’s either I give that up or not paint it at all.
Yep, you definitely give that benefit up. However, I've found that the high absorption of the clay is actually too drying for some plants, so just consider the plant's needs before planting it in a painted, glazed, or plastic pot :)
Thanks for the tutorial. I painted a concrete pot with acrylic paint (navy blue) which came up really well but I wanted to paint a band of rose gold round the bottom. i ordered deco art rose gold metallic paint but i was really disappointed as its not very opaque , very transparent and just looks like a shine rather than paint. I dont think I would achieve the solid colour Im looking for even with multiple layers. Am i doing something wrong? Should I use a spray paint instead?
Hi! I think it depends on the color. I found that Antique Bronze usually took 2-3 coats to get an opaque finish. Definitely more than one coat with the shimmery/shiny colors.
Thank you so much! What’s the name of the golden rose color on the pictures? The DecoArt Americana Acrylic Paint on amazon has “brunze, champagne gold, soft gold, and vintage brass”
Thank you for the tutorial. Quick question what color is the one you used with the white pot, is it gold? And last, what brand do you use for outside? Thanks!
It's Antique Bronze by the company DecoArt! For outdoors, I just use any acrylic paint labeled "outdoors"--DecoArt has a Patio Paint line, but there are many others!
Yes that's true actually! The terracotta clay is absorbant, which is great for some plants. Painting it will seal the clay, so that removes the "breathing" ability (which is really just the pot soaking in excess water). It's not a big deal for many plants though.
@@ByBrittanyG I wish it wasn’t a big deal to him we have one shelf of ugly brown terra-cotta pots and our other pots are white. Thank you for the response

Yep, that's a good idea! Have fun with it!
Very helpful thank ya. I didn't seal inside so the paint cracked when it was sealed on the outside. Great designs
Thanks so much, glad you found it helpful!
Great tutorial, and great hair!
hehe thank you!!
Very elegant and pretty!
Thank you Kim! :)

How did you do the designs on the pot? Did you use a stencil or tape the areas off?
Just painter's tape!

THIS
Pretty much once you paint them you give up that up.
Yep, you definitely give that benefit up. However, I've found that the high absorption of the clay is actually too drying for some plants, so just consider the plant's needs before planting it in a painted, glazed, or plastic pot :)
By using a penetrating sealant that gets absorbed into the clay, the pot should still be breathable. Hope this helps
So would this work for making candles? I want to paint the pots stylish, but do I also need the waterproof sealer since I'm not using them for plants?
Beautiful pots 👌👌👌
Thanks a lot
My notes:
1) Seal with aerosol Thompsons waterseal spray
2) Acrylic Decoart paint, 2 covers
Yes, that's the gist of it.
@@ByBrittanyG Do you waterseal the whole pot or just the inside of it?

Hi. Would it be a terrible idea to plant immediately after painting? Planting a succulent.
As long as the paint has dried to the recommended time on the bottle, I'd say it's fine
Thank you for the tutorial. I'm doing a little project about this and this really helped. Just subbed bell all. You deserve more. All the best 🥰
Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate your kind words!!

This is very beautiful
Thank you :)
Love itttttt !!!!!!
Thank You very cool. How long does it take to dry?
Depends, I usually set mine under a ceiling fan to speed along the drying process, but the paint you use should have a dry time on its bottle!
How long do you let the aerosol Thompsons spray dry before painting?
Usually a few hours, sometimes I'll spray at night and then paint in the morning :)
Love your hair colour so pretty Also love the video you helped me alot thank u so much💖
I'm so glad! And thank you :)

Thank you so much! Very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Pretty hair color!
Hehe thanks!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
I primed with the seal and spray painted and still had the paint bubble off. Now have to start over.
That's frustrating--sorry Kim! Sometimes DIY is all about trial and error :)
@@ByBrittanyG Well, at least I know it even stumped a pro! I don't feel so bad now!
What's about using plaster of paris as white washing the pot . Does that works???
I've never tried that, sorry!
What is the name of the sealer?
Thompson's Waterseal aerosol version is great!
Hi! Which brand do you recommend as primer and set?
I don't have a ton of preference, but I like Thompson's Water Seal as a reputable brand, and I mostly use DecoArt acrylic paints!
where did you get the dark grey pot with the (///\\\) lines?
Hi! I have had it forever, but I think it was from one of those stores like Marshalls or TJ Max!
@@ByBrittanyG ah, Its beautiful ty for the reply
Do you have to use a sealant if you spray paint the pots
I would, to help prevent the paint from bubbling
Thank you ☺️
You’re welcome 😊
What is base clr it's acrylic ,?
The spray is a waterseal spray (brand Thompson's Water Seal) and the paint is just an acrylic craft paint :)
"the paints are ready to pot"
definitely too lazy to re-do the whole video for that LOL
Hi what is the name of the sealer you used ?
Thompson's Waterseal is great!
What paint did you use?
I mostly use DecoArt acrylics, but you can use any kind of acrylic craft paint really.
Is it bad to paint then my bd said that cus the pots breath…. I was like …is that true
