  • A continuation of my C4 Corvette series where I am trying to troubleshoot and repair my C4 Corvette's poor running issue. In this video, I have the final Diagnostic Trouble Code DTC C35 that I am solving for, which is the Idle Air Control Valve in the car. I show how to replace this part and discover an issue along the way!

When I purchased my 95 C4 , it had severe surging issues in park or af a stop. It would act like it was trying to overpower the brakes, lol.
Anyways , I installed a new IAC valve and New EGR valve. That cured the problem.
I think it also helps to use GM,ACDELCO, DELPHI parts instead of chinese garbage! Also ended up replacing fuel pressure regulator and upgraded to NEW Bosch 3 fuel injectors. Drives like new!

If anyone needs those Rear Struts for their hatch, Amazon has them under TUFF Support. They even have the tabs for defroster wires. I think they were $48 for both. You'll pay almost double from the C4 vendors!🤔 Amazon struts are perfect!

I bought a new 94 vette yellow in 94. I commuted over 100 a days in this car. At 150K miles it began to idle really rough especially after running at highway speeds for awhile and worse on hot days. It sounded like it was missing on one cylinder and would race in a 200 RPM range. Dealership said it was the Opti spark. I bought a new Opti spark to the tune of $800 and installed it myself. Was told by chevy dealership that the water pump would have to be replaced also. Did not make sense to me. BUT after I replaced the Opti spark the water pump was leaking and I replaced it right then…water and Opti spark do not mix well. Fired it up and the dam#* thing was still missing. Different but not running well. Spent the $70 back then at the chevy dealership and was told it was the Opti spark. Went back to the auto parts store and exchanged the Opti spark for a new one. Installed it and the LT1 purred like a kitten. I have since learned you can buy a replacement kit for the rotor and sensor in the Opti spark. You have to remove that brown/black plastic looking front cover/panel on the unit. Inside it looks much like an old distributor points system. The car ran great until I sold it at 170K miles and bought a new 1996 limited edition. Never liked the gray color. I have had a C5 but for me the C4 was the last real vette. I now have a 96 Red C4.
Look and make sure all your vacuum lines are not leaking. Those old plastic connection and tubing is crumbling from heat and time. Also check the large plastic vacuum line (about 1 inch) running along passenger side of the engine and plugs into the front top passenger side of the engine. It just pushes in and can back out and be hard to tell it is leaking. I had this problem…throws a code and makes you think the problem is the egr valve.

What I like about this channel is people actually get hear the problem as it's ongoing and what to listen for. I just bought a 95 Corvette with 69,000 MI all original . Sounds good but it's also the mileage for when things start deteriorating such as optispark, water pump, alternator, O2 sensors etc. Learning all I can now to be armed with information in the future.

I am happy about this vid. I assumed the LT1 work stopped in favor of the LS swap. I have a 96 C4 LT1. It runs, but I'll be busy in January changing all sensors as a precaution.

I would just caution this. In my experience many replacement parts are inferior to the ones on the car. I have had 4 C4s with over 500K miles driven in this model. You can compare to replacement part to one you remove and often see the difference. I have good luck with high end replacement parts from the part houses geared to racing.

I have one in my shop with a high idle, I mean over 1200 rpm’s, egr replaced, auto idle motor replaced, map replaced, map selnoid replaced, opti spark replaced, new plugs and wires, other various relays, vacuum leaks checked, none found. Vacuum gauge steady at 21hg, no fluctuation. Have about decided the computer is bad.

Thanks for sharing it took off my Cadillac converters like you did in your last video right side came off fairly easy like you said the left side you could actually take the studs out instead of removing the plate they come unscrewed from the Cadillac converter that's going through that plate that you cut off and I thought I'd share that with you I bet we both have clogged Cadillac converter on either the right or left side I had the same problem with a Cadillac and I replaced a lot of parts and the whole time it was a Cadillac converter that was clogged up have you done any more on your exhaust

I haven't, I have actually pulled the engine to have it rebuilt (needed gaskets and stuff replaced anyway) and getting a better cam and headwork done. I will be going with headers and no cats when I reassemble!

My 94 has an erratic idle, worse when cold. Surges up and down, doesn't stall and it revs up and accelerates ok. I have replaced the TPS with no change. I'm trying not to get into the "I'll swap everything until it runs right mode". I'm not getting a check engine light and I have not checked for trouble codes. The optispark was replaced 10,000 miles ago because it missed and backfired after the engine got wet. I'm frustrated to the point of wanting to sell the car. Did you ever resolve your issues? Anybody else out there have any suggestions? I may try cleaning or replacing the IACV. Thanks

I did, I started it, took it for a drive and it still did not run correctly. I believe that the ECU is actually bad but will not be able to verify untill after the engine rebuild.
