As one of the world’s foremost authorities on the science of sleep (in a world that’s constantly struggling with it), Shawn Stevenson has increasingly found his insight very much in demand.
He wasn’t always an authority on better sleep, though.
He became one after suffering some severe pain and mobility issues at 20. Upon seeking medical advice, Shawn was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease. His doctors at the time told him that it was progressive and incurable, that he had the spine of an 80-year-old man, and that he could only expect to get worse as time wore on.
But Shawn wasn’t interested in hearing any of that.
Instead of accepting the doom-and-gloom prognosis of his medical team, Shawn decided to take matters into his own hands. He started taking a more holistic view of his health and incorporated some significant lifestyle changes - everything from a better diet to increased physical activity to proper sleep.
By applying a total-body treatment plan, Shawn was able to not just halt his condition in its tracks, but in some cases, even reverse some of the effects. At that point, he knew he had a mission: to educate the masses on the importance of diet, exercise, and getting better sleep.
Today, Shawn is the host of the #1 podcast on Apple’s “Health and Fitness” chart, “The Model Health Show,” which covers everything from diet and exercise to relationship advice. His books have consistently topped bestseller and audio download charts. And he’s been hired as a keynote speaker to deliver his message of total-body health to companies like Hilton, US Bank, Google, MasterCard, and Whole Foods.
I had a chance to sit down with Shawn a few years ago to discuss his book, “Sleep Smarter: 21 Essential Strategies to Sleep Your Way to A Better Body, Better Health, and Bigger Success.” And then, I had the pleasure of interviewing him again on Episode #895 to discuss the science of sleep in more detail. But today, I wanted to specifically talk about food and how we can best lose weight, boost our metabolism, and stabilize our hormones for a healthy lifestyle. You’re not going to want to miss this one.
Join me on Episode 1,040 to learn how to upgrade your brain, boost metabolism, maximize hormones, and burn body fat with expert Shawn Stevenson!

This is so great!! This is how I helped my mom to get off her diabetes medication. Her A1C went from 14+ to a 5!! Doctors determined she no longer needs metformin or any other diabetes medication. I'd been a little bit nervous hoping I was helping and not hurting her somehow. I didn't know of all these studies but we did it!! Feels great listening to all this 🎉🎉

    • @VadaVoo

Me too. The need for basics is super important. He always asks great questions but I'm also thoroughly perplexed. I've watched at least 30 of his shows on nutrition and they've covered every item in this video yet he's reacting like he's never heard any of it before. Shawn is a friend so you know they've covered a lot of these topics in private. I would say he's doing it for the viewers but his confusion and surprise seem legit. And normally he's jotting notes to the point of distraction but he's not this time. Great info but a really bazaar day watching Lewis. haha🤔

Labor , pesticides, bees to pollinate the trees, irrigation, fertilizer... The list goes on..

The best interviews are when the hosts and guests are genuinely enthusiastic and zoned in to the discussion, versus replying with a bland one or two word acknowledgment and just moving on to the next question. Thank you Shawn and Lewis for making this topic so intriguing! I'd be more than happy to watch a part two of this.

Your microbiome can't live in your gut with too much sugar. Milk has too much sugar. I am enjoying this episode. I have not gone to school for nutrition but I am self taught. I have been talking about food to people and I get a lot of push back.

Maybe I’m wrong, but this is the first person I’ve listened to that seem so honest, so genuine, someone who really wants to help people with the information they really need to change their lives. I hope everyone takes the time to listen to this to the end. Book has a 30 day smart plan at the end. He has another book sleep smarter.

I found this interview riveting! As someone who resorted to surgery (sleeve gastrectomy) to lose nearly 100 pounds, lately I feel like I've done irreversible damage to my metabolism (and now I realise probably my microbiome too) as the amount of food I can eat is limited. Even following a strict keto diet I cant seem to shift the 20lbs I've regained. I will definitely be reading and watching everything on this topic.

When he said, "your liver is made up from what you eat" it changed my life. I tossed out all the junk food first. Then when I went to eat some white bread from yesterday's restaurant plate brought home, I thought "how can my body make a liver from white bread?" and tossed that too. I know people who drink too much and have so much anger, I totally care about my liver.
