Drivin' the ol' turbies was a hard job. We were descended from a long line of turby drivers. My grand father drove the turbies during World War II and my pop did throughout the 60s and 70s. I drove the turbies untill most have now, sadly have been reached with more advanced, more sophisticated kit.
Tezzington Sir. Given the tone of your reply you have pretty much invalidated your own comment. Fact is that it was a detriment in several areas including assistance for disabled people who may have difficulty boarding or alighting and from a security standpoint because cctv doesn’t prevent crime.. it just makes prosecution easier IF the Police can trace a suspect, and platform observance was an important part of a Guards job, not to mention the ability to work a defective train out of service without having to detrain a second lot of passengers in order to assist a defective train ahead. I guess your reply comes from a position of ignorance having never been through train crew training.🙄 (Edit to reply to the correct post)
I liked the quasi military structure it had back the . It is a SERVICE... not a business, people generally use the tube out of necessity and as such it doesn’t need so much “corporate bullsh*t”. It was better when it was run by railwaymen rather than business school graduates who understand that continuity of service is more important that corporate image and identity.
Nihilistcentral UK you should get a different job. I’d highly recommend working somewhere where you have the option to join a strong trade union who will fight to get you the best pay and conditions possible.
1959 and 1972mk1 on the Northern Line, that was childhood memories for me. A few of these mk1s are now on the Bakerloo line.
@1:25 brilliantly disguised shot. Who could that man be?? 😂

@Tom Whitby do you know that for sure? Why darken his face at all if it's an actor? 🤔
The Victoria line never had any guards

Goodness me, what a pro-Luddite piece. Amazingly enough, drivers managed. And are now being paid, what, £50k to push a button?
They don't just press buttons
I work for less than half that with absolutely no job security and no pension and some long periods with no work at all

@@thecornedbeefcouncil9792 they aren't any outside the railways where the public is held to ransom regularly
Nihilistcentral UK join the railway then.
