I know fires and SPADs are two different things but that 'shit happens and we deal with the consequences' attitude in LU was criticised in the report on the King's Cross fire. LU pre-1987 took the view "Fires happen, it's inevitable". Miranda thinks "SPADs happen (and buses hitting cars!), it's inevitable".
Miranda’s attitude was disgusting just saying it’s part of the job to hit cars no It isn’t looks like she doesn’t even care about the job because she literally said the positive is the salary
its funny how Joe and Miranda, say the only positive thing is the pay. Most of these "train drivers" they do it only for the money, where I have friends in the UK that are major train nerds but can't get in cause people like Joe and Miranda only see it as making money.
Joe didn't say that??? She said she'd be making more money but she also said she liked the job and looked forward to it?? Surely there's nothing wrong with her liking the money aspect.
God I hope Miranda is on benefits and staying away from ... everything ... at most she could be a fast food worker or underpaid receptionist ... that large rotund adult baby doesn't deserve a job like that ... I bet she only got the job in the first place because of pressure to hire more female drivers so they were stuck with that bowling ball waste of a human.
The whole system seems worryingly unprofessional. Miranda acts like silly school kid, Jo just wants to earn loads of money. Can you imagine British Airways pilots acting like this? And the tube drivers are taking care of MORE people.
I disagree. It seems like a very relaxed workplace where people feel comfortable to talk to one another from what we've seen. However, when a SPAD did occur, the train was immediately taken out of service and the driver was retrained (although the effect on the retraining doesn't seem too positive).
Talk about discrimination! A nation puts out ad to attract “women only” for a job? What in the hell would happen if it was done with “men only”? No! Because that’s also discrimination. Circumstances? No matter how much you set the rules out, with the best of intentions life happens my friend. We have no real idea exactly what is going on aboard a particular train at any given time, obviously the rules and the signals are there to be obeyed for the health and safety of all concerned but the thing is that we don't really know the specific set of circumstances on board the train. As far as we know there might be some exceptional circumstances that might help mitigate why the driver felt it necessary to run the Res light.
I don't know what they call that over there in the UK. But over here in the US we call them quota hires. In other words ,not hired because of their high ability to perform.
Omg Miranda really doesn’t give a toss she should not have a job with this much responsibility absolute disgrace and a danger in the tube not an ounce of remorse to what she did
Crazy that her attitude was allowed to be broadcast, she did not like being told off and no... hitting cars is not part of a bus drivers job... they don't park their arse at the dinner table at night and say "today was a good day, only took out 3 cars, better than yesterday when i took out 5, its just part of the job".......

By American railroad / Subway standards, they seem pretty unprepared. They should generally know all the speed limits before even being able to touch the controls of a train. Idk, this was pretty interesting. Disclaimer: Not trying to say our trains are better, especially with all the freight accident's here lately.
I think the reason that they don’t know all the speed limits is that they change 600 times along the line… I don’t even think someone could remember them all if you gave them a few years.

She probably got fired as if you SPAD 2 times that usually means your off the team or you need re-training. This is only for London though other train companies in the uk will make being a driver harder since the tube kinda needs more drivers since the trains run every 1-3 minutes during peak hours and 3-5 during off peak hours. But since other train companies don’t need to run as often they don’t need as many drivers since they only run around every 1-2 hours though. So they usually make driver training harder.
In the documentary it says there’s over 1200 on the line, I bet you couldn’t memorise 1200 signals, exactly where to start slowing down for each individual station platform, and lots of different speed limit changes. It’s a difficult job, more so than you’d think
@@TrainsOfDorset Not like the stations change.. few times around and the brake points must be basically the same every day. you dont need to memorise signals, you just stop if its red i would imagine..
@@TrainsOfDorset Actually route learning is exactly that, and yes a driver is still learning when driving the route for a while after starting. The other thing is that signals are in the line of sight or have repeaters, and a stop signal is indicated as a caution on a previous signal if it has more than two aspects. A driver should be very aware of signals that often/always at stop for logistical reasons (points etc.) and equally so, if they are closely following another train and see a series of stop or caution signals.
@@TrainsOfDorset yes it takes some time to memorise these things, but she should be improving on these things. Trains look nicer than the ones I remember riding in the early 70s. Moved to Melbourne in ‘73 to find much older trains still in service. Those trip systems came into use in Melbourne in the late 70s when I started college and often the arms failed to drop despite a green signal. Wow, great guess! 2003-2006 this show ran.
16:29 she is sitting like she doesn't give a shit, foot on the table and bored. She should be fully engaged.
Vancouver, British Columbia has had driverless trains since its beginning in 1986. The Skytrain (as it's called) has been entirely computer-operated.
Victoria line has been automatic since opening in 1967, and driverless trains are only with a driver due to union pressures
Not sure miranda is fit for any driving jobs.
Her attitude truly amazes me. Oh well, it's not my train, why should I care. I wonder if Miranda still works for LU?
Miranda is vile horrible attitude she is putting the public at risk Part of the job 😡
Miranda should NEVER drive another train ever
Miranda's attitude appears to be "Well my training doesn't matter, because there are safety features to cover any mistake I make". She should be treated as though the consequences of her actions were what they would have been without the safety features.
@9:58 - I didn't know Johnny Mathis worked for the London Underground !
Oh hey! The guy at 19:22 is the same guy from "The Railway - Keeping Britain on Track" series!!!!! :D
"London Underground ran an ad campaign" - at first I misheard it as "London Underground ran a mad campaign" 😁
PS. The bit about "learner's plates on the train" was good 😁
Good job they are not flying planes
If I ever go to London again I will make sure Miranda isn’t driving. Her attitude needs a serious adjustment. I would have suspended her for a week at least.
7:38 Salary as being the best thing and every now and then Is bad
.. Sus
You have Under Ground Drivers,Bus Drivers,Air Plane Pilots,Etc..They all have Theoretical and Practical
Examinations. They must pass these.Once they have past these, this is where the Proper Experience
and Knowledge starts.
Her attitude is the worst but her manager really isn’t helping by how chill he is about it all and saying multiple drivers have watched the training vid a few times!!
Miranda’s attitude was disgusting just saying it’s part of the job to hit cars no
It isn’t looks like she doesn’t even care about the job because she literally said the positive is the salary
Okay youtube, you've suggested this video to me about a hundred times now...
I see Jo’s perspiration day went well
its funny how Joe and Miranda, say the only positive thing is the pay.
I was actually waiting for Miranda to blame the signalman for not clearing the signal!!!!
The whole system seems worryingly unprofessional. Miranda acts like silly school kid, Jo just wants to earn loads of money. Can you imagine British Airways pilots acting like this? And the tube drivers are taking care of MORE people.
most people work to earn money, seems very professional to me.
I disagree. It seems like a very relaxed workplace where people feel comfortable to talk to one another from what we've seen. However, when a SPAD did occur, the train was immediately taken out of service and the driver was retrained (although the effect on the retraining doesn't seem too positive).
When on earth is this video from?
Manual operation on the Northern and stock footage of the District with grey doors that isn't marked as vintage.
Around 2005/2006. Possibly before the 7/7 attack.
And a section near the end that is the Bakerloo line (I think), certainly not the Northern line - running alongside mainline tracks.
The VHS recorder too 😅
@ScholarGypsyOx The Bakerloo still does that North of Queens Park.
I still remember my first ride as a train driver :-D I could've filled a swimmingpool with my sweat 😀
Bloody hell... What a response from Miranda... I guess she will continue working to keep the rainbow squad satisfied.
Be mad over something that happened 15+ years ago.
@@eddyk3 found her hubby 🤣
Hey, nice, I wish Romania would do a documentary about new underground drivers!
"Devise an action plan for her so hopefully it won't happen in the future" - Easy, sack her
Is Jo still on the Northern Line?
1:36 Is this vicy pipe in her younger years?
Crikey - good spot! it certainly looks like her!
Mirandas mistake didn't kill anyone, but only because of the safety device. She should have been sacked for her attitude.
Most London Underground lines nowadays are automated and computer based signalling. So you cannot pass a signal at danger
You still can!
You can still have a spad on an ATO line.
Driving manually is required under signalling failure
No they aren't. It's only the modern trains with newer signalling and the sub surface lines are only partially automated as far as I know.
This is what happens when you hire based on immutable characteristics rather then qualification
Wow never seen someone speed into a car park like that at Golders Green 😮
How the hell would you not be fired for passing a signal danger the first time. Surely it's considered gross negligence
I bet Jo is nervous about her test, especially having a supervisor breathin' down her Gregory Peck.
Talk about discrimination! A nation puts out ad to attract “women only” for a job? What in the hell would happen if it was done with “men only”? No! Because that’s also discrimination. Put out an ad that says it’s an “Equal Opportunity Job” for all who feel they are capable or something in that way. Then, if a woman wants to apply, great. England just created such a bitter division between all.
It's nearly 50 years since the Equal Pay and Equal Opportunities legislation came in, do we really still need to remind people of it?
Part of the job to not check a signal?
This must be very old because this attitude would not last 5 minutes on the rail today.
I bet the LED signal's nowadays, have made this common flaw now alot easier to manage. Than back in 2000's with the incandescents
Rubbish; if a driver is *looking* for a signal, they'll see it, whether it's incandescent or LED.
@@jackx4311 yeah, and incandescents are less reliable and much less brighter than LEDs at the same power consumption level (yes I watch Technology Connections)
Dude, I don’t drive trains, but even I know signal is gospel, especially up there there’s only three main signals that you really need to worry about along with the other ones that are equally important but these are paramount
🟡
⚫️ preliminary caution
🟡
⚫️
🟡 caution
⚫️
🔴
⚫️ red
⚫️
And green but that means its safe and out of a depot if something else changes, and that thing isn’t the main signal, don’t fucking move your train easy
Did she say what I think she said !! ??
SPAD on TfL property…oops
Ah yes!..My answer would be see if the wheels have gone over the block joint if it has then it becomes an ooops
was this made in 2003?
Hitting cars is just part of daily driving
i've done two drives. was terrifying
Miranda is a woman who has been shielded by her mother for far too long, her perspective on life is swayed somewhat by this experience, scary prospect to have Miranda at the sharp end with her attitude, she will drag a bad into the cab with her and risk a lot whilst mulling things over.
Lol.. I'm a bus driver and waiting to apply for trainee train driver position. I can confirm it's not part of the job hitting cars or anything. Part of the job is to put safety first and never hit anything SIMPLE.
Well done joe
Fire her
It made me really uncomfortable how the woman who missed the red light was making excuses for her mistake. She should not be driving a train.
How do I become an overground train driver?! I live in East Sussex, and can’t seem to find any clues online ❤
There is nothing stopping you from contacting the company you want to work for and asking about it. Some employers appreciate that kind of initiative.
I don't know what they call that over there in the UK. But over here in the US we call them quota hires. In other words ,not hired because of their high ability to perform.
Miranda has attitude when she could of caused a bad accident
Omg Miranda really doesn’t give a toss she should not have a job with this much responsibility absolute disgrace and a danger in the tube not an ounce of remorse to what she did
Crazy that her attitude was allowed to be broadcast, she did not like being told off and no... hitting cars is not part of a bus drivers job... they don't park their arse at the dinner table at night and say "today was a good day, only took out 3 cars, better than yesterday when i took out 5, its just part of the job".......
the spad video oml 💀💀💀
It sounds like a horror film! Perfect for Halloween or just to scare someone
As a train driver, Miranda's attitude is disgraceful
7:18 - So, it's completely your fault then??
The tibe6is the safest network int the world.
Always wondered, what happens if a driver needs the loo?
They take a leak on the third rail.
The way she says „it’s part of the job“…NO It is not part of the job. mistakes can happen but that doesn’t make them part of the job. And also her face being like „i don’t care“ makes me want to punch her….
I understand if you made a mistake and feel very sorry for it, that’s when I normally be like „Well just make sure it NEVER happens again“ But the way she doesn’t feel sorry at all, and just like „part of the job“…..
Miranda should be sacked. Purely for her attitude! If the reason she went through the signal is the truth and she had owned it and been remorseful and genuinly sorry and upset or whatever then fair enough but her attitude is what makes her dangerous to others
@@RockDoesRedstone lmao, there are trains that have more speed limit changes than that, and nobody has an issue remembering them. That’s purely an excuse for bad train operation.
@@TEMPLE7D we have warning speeds saying it will reduce she just didn’t care
@@honyatwashere That’s all I’m saying. It’s just surprising she was allowed to take a test without even knowing the posted speed limits. Even with them being there, she still disregarded
@@TEMPLE7D If I’m being honest, the only reason she would’ve passed training is if she made a good impression and went along with it. You can tell she doesn’t care about her job. This was back years ago though so training strictness has increased no way you would be able to do this on this date.
SHE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE SIGNALS ARE?
And remember to ALWAYS check the signals at stations before leaving, don't be like Miranda, even if you do see the points change. Signals are there for a reason, and there protocols and procedures for these things.
@@jasonpeisley6031 exactly and after 2 years she seems to have got lazy and assumed it was at green. Thats bad driving
Trains look nicer than the ones I remember riding in the early 70s. Moved to Melbourne in ‘73 to find much older trains still in service. Those trip systems came into use in Melbourne in the late 70s when I started college and often the arms failed to drop despite a green signal. Drivers must have cursed them black and blue as the trains rarely left a station without being tripped on the first attempt. Must have have been poorly installed.
Miranda. Entitled with attitude.
These are the most disrespectful people in the world they should be lucky to be able to be part of transport for london
