I’m a bus driver hitting cars isn’t part of the job.. FYI
Go 20
Go 10 mph!
Passing red signals isn’t part of a train operators job. On the mainline this driver wouldn’t be allowed back out driving after two signals passed at danger in 2 years. The mainline railway is far more stringent. Her attitude is completely wrong
@@stevesje71 this is why I've always had the opinion women should never be Train Drivers or Bus Drivers, their poor backwards attitude. "it's part of the job to hit a car" or "it's part of the having SPAD's". I mean see where she's coming from I think she means it can happen, but having that thought will stress you out. It's not too hard to adhere to signals, most important part of the job after passenger safety.
Her attitude is absolutely abysmal. She should have been fired.
Did she say that hitting cars is part of the job as a bus driver?? It's only part of the job if you don't know how to do the job. I'm 21 years a bus driver and the only thing that's ever hit my bus was a low branch whacking my nearside mirror. I'm glad Joe passed her training.
Honestly Miranda should never be anywhere near a train with that attitude!
Miranda’s attitude towards the incident should be enough to keep her off the lines, or at least sent back for remedial training. Her smug and smarmy responses show that she doesn’t take the position seriously, and there was no contrition in anything that she said.
I'm an ex driver for my local train in Venezuela (IFE railway) and this is true...the trains I operated are capable of going well over 150kmph, about a year before I quit my job to start college we had a malfunction of the entire signal system, so we were in manual mode, and I was easily going 100kmph when I noticed another unit WITH PAX IN IT in the distance which was stopped due to technical issues (notice a pattern?), I enabled emergency brakes and full regen, and only had about 30 meters to spare, it was my mistake as I realized too late and should have braked sooner, I documented it and told about it to my supervisors...and they told me and a few other drivers who had a similar issue during that mass signal failure that "admitting you're wrong doesn't make you look weak, but rather the opposite, and that a smug, disrespectful approach will get you nowhere and open you no doors".
I willingly went through a week of retraining just so the memory and the refresh would be burned into my brain to avoid this kind of incident again
That high horse is really high up there, be careful not to fall off. Not to excuse her actions and mistakes, but this comment is as smug as she is.
She doesn't need to go back to training, she just needs to be off the lines as an operator permanently. She should be put to clean the trains instead
@@basedgodstrugglin No, it isn't. That comment by @jaymeade9898 isn't smug at all. Miranda is a disaster waiting to happen. Don't tell me, you're a sloppy Tube driver too and want to defend your mate.
True, but worse, it shows she has a personality type that just can’t stand taking responsibility (especially when there’s nothing or nobody around that the blame can be shifted to. That drives them crazy. They feel trapped and that’s when their attitude, like you mentioned, comes to the surface.
"As a bus driver, you hit cars, it's part of the job" HAHAHAHA
Bet its now "as a train driver you have SPADs" because she doesn't seem to care at all.
@@cyberleaderandy1exactly she doesn’t care
"I used to be a bus driver - you hit cars that's part of the job " 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Seriously, she wasn’t canned? In Japan, she not only wud have been disciplined, but turned over to mental health officials for being in ‘Miranda world’ like it was a fuckin’ video game! Her attitude is also totally unsuited for any job that involves other people’s lives. The other recruits, I really like.
even in NYC she would be send back to training for a year england is fucking wired japan also trwats there workers like shit
And thats why in Japan there has been a number of accidents, most fatally the Amagasaki derailment, due to overworked, overstressed and fearful conductors.
This is a stupid example, your comparing a culture that demands perfectionism to this? Absolute joke
@@Thiefnuker that was quite a while ago now, you rarely hear anything like that happening in Japan these days
That's what I was thinking when she went to see her boss I kept saying "fire her immediately". Her attitude was disgraceful.
I remember watching this on Sky back in the day, I don't think Miranda lasted much longer as a driver 😂
Thank God for that! "Everyone makes mistakes, we're not robots!" That, in combination with the sulky spoilt brat expression on her face, horrified me.
She’s probably a manager now…
@@nedseagoon5101 Yeah ... of McDonalds maybe.
She's still a driver!
@@AlexMetroman Wait! How?!
Miranda’s attitude leaves a lot to be desired,
As a train driver, you don’t get paid to do your job right, you get paid not to do it wrong
If she cannot take responsibility for her own mistakes how can you expect her to take responsibility for passengers in an emergency?
She needs to be assisted into an alternative career.
Jo was a good un. Her attitude and character was spot on
Shocking attitude from Miss Spad.
Ahh yes, unlike the mainline!
Back in the days when TPWS didn’t exist!
Kudos Jo, and Maranda, stop making excuses!!! You'll be ok if you learn from your mistakes.
I loved watching The Tube - it had such a great theme tune!
Totally early
When people are involved mistakes will happen.
But her attitude to making these mistakes is very strange? A driver that thinks its part of the job to hit cars and run red signals maybe isent fit to drive heavy vechiles? I would not let her to continue to drive with that attitude...
Hopefully Miranda didn’t make it to a full time position. The ‘ mehhhhhhhhhhh it’s only a spad’ I found quite an incredible attitude. Effectively said ‘ I didn’t crash so it doesn’t matter’ ….. sheesh.
When I first read your first line I thought you put “Hopefully Miranda didn’t make it to full time prostitution “ 😂
@@BBoaBrim probably more suited😂
@@oldschoolpaul73 she wouldn’t earn much.
Not sure miranda is fit for any driving jobs.
Big respect to the drivers.
This series must have been made about 20 years ago. I wonder if any of these drivers are still working for the underground.
Wow, great guess! 2003-2006 this show ran.
I know fires and SPADs are two different things but that 'shit happens and we deal with the consequences' attitude in LU was criticised in the report on the King's Cross fire. LU pre-1987 took the view "Fires happen, it's inevitable". Miranda thinks "SPADs happen (and buses hitting cars!), it's inevitable".
"Usually the signal changes" is like the most common reasons for spads on the light rail Saltsjöbanan (before they got ATC!). Because that one time it didn't change for some reason.
18:06 Why did Joe tell Miranda that she has caused a disruption on the line?
The emphasis should be on her act of running the red light. If you run the red light, you’ll get into a crash had the computer not stepped in. Whether you did it in a busy interchange station or on a straight piece of track shouldn’t matter. It would cause a disruption anyways…
Your comment strangely contradicts itself to be honest. You answered your own question. Read it again. Joe had every right to tell Miranda, that she caused delays to the service because she is responsible for that. She accidentally put the public in potential danger and caused delays.
@@TheUnknown313 Miranda triggered the computer to stop the train which disrupted the line. Had the computer not stepped in and she got into a crash, the line will be blocked and diversions will be needed for service to continue.
So one way or another, she has already caused a disruption, whether is it 10 mins or 10 days, it doesn’t really matter.
If Joe wants to nail Miranda for the disruption, he could’ve just said, “You’re very lucky all you caused is a 10 min disruption and not 10 days of closed line, countless injuries and death and a possible criminal case.”
We only saw snippets of the interactions she had.
It's important to talk about all the consequences, to reinforce *why* she should take care, not just *that* she should take care.
I have my suspicions that Miranda's SPAD may have been set up for the film.
It's unlikely that access would be given for a disciplinary just like that.
Miranda should NEVER drive another train ever
How the hell would you not be fired for passing a signal danger the first time. Surely it's considered gross negligence
3:03 what a unique perspective seeing the tube train inside the tunnel from the outside
In many places in the United States including the largest transit system in the us, the mta, if you blow a red signal you get a 2 week unpaid vacation
16:29 she is sitting like she doesn't give a shit, foot on the table and bored. She should be fully engaged.
Her attitude is the worst but her manager really isn’t helping by how chill he is about it all and saying multiple drivers have watched the training vid a few times!!
"Devise an action plan for her so hopefully it won't happen in the future" - Easy, sack her
It made me really uncomfortable how the woman who missed the red light was making excuses for her mistake. She should not be driving a train.
Miranda is vile horrible attitude she is putting the public at risk Part of the job 😡
I see Jo’s perspiration day went well
Lol.. I'm a bus driver and waiting to apply for trainee train driver position. I can confirm it's not part of the job hitting cars or anything. Part of the job is to put safety first and never hit anything SIMPLE.
This is what happens when you hire based on immutable characteristics rather then qualification
I was actually waiting for Miranda to blame the signalman for not clearing the signal!!!!
Most London Underground lines nowadays are automated and computer based signalling. So you cannot pass a signal at danger
You still can!
You can still have a spad on an ATO line.
Driving manually is required under signalling failure
No they aren't. It's only the modern trains with newer signalling and the sub surface lines are only partially automated as far as I know.
7:38 Salary as being the best thing and every now and then Is bad
.. Sus
Mirandas mistake didn't kill anyone, but only because of the safety device. She should have been sacked for her attitude.
Okay youtube, you've suggested this video to me about a hundred times now...
I still remember my first ride as a train driver :-D I could've filled a swimmingpool with my sweat 😀
Miranda is a woman who has been shielded by her mother for far too long, her perspective on life is swayed somewhat by this experience, scary prospect to have Miranda at the sharp end with her attitude, she will drag a bad into the cab with her and risk a lot whilst mulling things over.
Did she say what I think she said !! ??
SPAD on TfL property…oops
Ah yes!..My answer would be see if the wheels have gone over the block joint if it has then it becomes an ooops
Dude, I don’t drive trains, but even I know signal is gospel, especially up there there’s only three main signals that you really need to worry about along with the other ones that are equally important but these are paramount
🟡
⚫️ preliminary caution
🟡
⚫️
🟡 caution
⚫️
🔴
⚫️ red
⚫️
And green but that means its safe and out of a depot if something else changes, and that thing isn’t the main signal, don’t fucking move your train easy
I bet Jo is nervous about her test, especially having a supervisor breathin' down her Gregory Peck.
the spad video oml 💀💀💀
It sounds like a horror film! Perfect for Halloween or just to scare someone
The whole system seems worryingly unprofessional. Miranda acts like silly school kid, Jo just wants to earn loads of money. Can you imagine British Airways pilots acting like this? And the tube drivers are taking care of MORE people.
most people work to earn money, seems very professional to me.
I disagree. It seems like a very relaxed workplace where people feel comfortable to talk to one another from what we've seen. However, when a SPAD did occur, the train was immediately taken out of service and the driver was retrained (although the effect on the retraining doesn't seem too positive).
Miranda has attitude when she could of caused a bad accident
Is Jo still on the Northern Line?
Miranda’s attitude was disgusting just saying it’s part of the job to hit cars no
It isn’t looks like she doesn’t even care about the job
Hey, nice, I wish Romania would do a documentary about new underground drivers!
Wow never seen someone speed into a car park like that at Golders Green 😮
was this made in 2003?
Well done joe
Talk about discrimination! A nation puts out ad to attract “women only” for a job? What in the hell would happen if it was done with “men only”? No! Because that’s also discrimination. Put out an ad that says it’s an “Equal Opportunity Job” for all who feel they are capable or something in that way. Then, if a woman wants to apply, great. England just created such a bitter division between all.
It's nearly 50 years since the Equal Pay and Equal Opportunities legislation came in, do we really still need to remind people of it?
Hitting cars is just part of daily driving
When on earth is this video from?
Manual operation on the Northern and stock footage of the District with grey doors that isn't marked as vintage.
Around 2005/2006. Possibly before the 7/7 attack.
And a section near the end that is the Bakerloo line (I think), certainly not the Northern line - running alongside mainline tracks.
The VHS recorder too 😅
@ScholarGypsyOx The Bakerloo still does that North of Queens Park.
I don't know what they call that over there in the UK. But over here in the US we call them quota hires. In other words ,not hired because of their high ability to perform.
Crazy that her attitude was allowed to be broadcast, she did not like being told off and no... hitting cars is not part of a bus drivers job... they don't park their arse at the dinner table at night and say "today was a good day, only took out 3 cars, better than yesterday when i took out 5, its just part of the job".......
The tibe6is the safest network int the world.
Circumstances?
No matter how much you set the rules out, with the best of intentions life happens my friend.
We have no real idea exactly what is going on aboard a particular train at any given time, obviously the rules and the signals are there to be obeyed for the health and safety of all concerned but the thing is that we don't really know the specific set of circumstances on board the train.
As far as we know there might be some exceptional circumstances that might help mitigate why the driver felt it necessary to run the Res light.
Poor Miranda, being the one to run a red light on the day the camera crews come filming
Nope - with her slap-happy attitude towards watching for signals, a SPAD was an absolute certainty. The only questions being "When?" and "Where?"
@@jackx4311 and how many since?
Miranda attitude stinks id be surprised if she still drives train to this day
Miranda. Entitled with attitude.
The district line is the *SLOWWEST TRAIN EVER*
I agree
you know why -
At the time it was 2 different trains known as C and D stock., both trains were "at odds with each other".- it was to do with the ergonomics of them, C stock with less seats and wider doorways Vs D stock with more seats and narrower doorways.
Mixing those 2 train types in service between Barking and Earls Court every day for about 35 years its no wonder the delays happened.
fortunatly the S stock has put pay to all that
This was before the S7 trains with higher speeds and open gangways. But still have old signals and not have CBTC throughout the whole line.
The way she says „it’s part of the job“…NO It is not part of the job. mistakes can happen but that doesn’t make them part of the job. And also her face being like „i don’t care“ makes me want to punch her….
I understand if you made a mistake and feel very sorry for it, that’s when I normally be like „Well just make sure it NEVER happens again“ But the way she doesn’t feel sorry at all, and just like „part of the job“…..
What a terrible attitude towards such a serious breach in what could lead to a major accident.
Her attitude is terrible, almost takes no responsibility
Miranda has self-control issues.
7:18 - So, it's completely your fault then??
Too much pampering..
How do I become an overground train driver?! I live in East Sussex, and can’t seem to find any clues online ❤
There is nothing stopping you from contacting the company you want to work for and asking about it. Some employers appreciate that kind of initiative.
These are the most disrespectful people in the world they should be lucky to be able to be part of transport for london
These accents!
My freinds a bus driver never hit a car.
By American railroad / Subway standards, they seem pretty unprepared. They should generally know all the speed limits before even being able to touch the controls of a train. Idk, this was pretty interesting. Disclaimer: Not trying to say our trains are better, especially with all the freight accident's here lately.
I think the reason that they don’t know all the speed limits is that they change 600 times along the line… I don’t even think someone could remember them all if you gave them a few years.
@@RockDoesRedstone lmao, there are trains that have more speed limit changes than that, and nobody has an issue remembering them. That’s purely an excuse for bad train operation.
@@TEMPLE7D we have warning speeds saying it will reduce she just didn’t care
@@honyatwashere That’s all I’m saying. It’s just surprising she was allowed to take a test without even knowing the posted speed limits. Even with them being there, she still disregarded
@@TEMPLE7D If I’m being honest, the only reason she would’ve passed training is if she made a good impression and went along with it. You can tell she doesn’t care about her job. This was back years ago though so training strictness has increased no way you would be able to do this on this date. She probably got fired as if you SPAD 2 times that usually means your off the team or you need re-training. This is only for London though other train companies in the uk will make being a driver harder since the tube kinda needs more drivers since the trains run every 1-3 minutes during peak hours and 3-5 during off peak hours. But since other train companies don’t need to run as often they don’t need as many drivers since they only run around every 1-2 hours though. So they usually make driver training harder.
LUL are known as operators, not drivers.
wtf
I sense neurodivergence in Miranda
"You hit cars that's part of the job" Next stop Labour Exchange!
Hitting cars as a bus driver is not part of the job...........
🇬🇧😷 always remember , mind the gap ! 😀😎👍
WOW, are they really old school in the UK... Who uses CRT monitors these days? So I guess if it's filmed that long ago, everyone was still soft.
looking at the cars i'd say this was filmed in the late 90s
It was filmed in the early 2000s and CRT monitors were still around a lot then. My Windows XP desktop from 2003 had one and I had a CRT TV til 2010
The terrible attitude of the driver Miranda, after running a red signal, makes you question whether she was chosen to be a tube driver, to tick a gender box, or whether she was the best candidate?
Box ticking can have lethal consequences, if you don’t ensure those chosen are FULLY competent.
I am fully behind equality of opportunity, but not the lowering of standards to appease political correctness agendas.
Spot on!
Ohhh my dear Miranda... for the love of god.. learn to stop talking.
Seems like a good job for a computer
Until the computer stops working
Very poor safety culture. I hope it’s changed since.
If a pilot were to go into a runway without clearance or takeoff a 737 without flaps there job would be thrown into question.
So... why would you need to attract women drivers in particular? Has it ever occurred to you women don't want to drive trains? Do you think it's better to have drivers that actually want to do their job, or drivers that are there for the money? Do you think that ridiculous attitude towards a SPAD is indicative of someone that wants to be there, or someone that doesn't really care?
Hitting cars is part of the job, i guess when you want to employ eomsn youve got allow for incompetence
Honestly I don't really like the intoris of these videos.................
Intros* (sorry😅)
I believe these train "drivers" should be called "Train operators." They do more than control the motors and brakes of the rail cars. Each country learns customs from each other. I am sorry a train operator passed a red signal, and that delayed the Underground from smoothly moving.
So they let women work and there’s an accident, ummmmmm …… 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
well neverminded this video is what's no good.... I thought this was an accident video not some boring BS about some trainee driver.
Well, they gave it away at the beginning; Miranda wasn't chosen for the role because of her skills or abilities, she was chosen because she ticked the right boxes. With that attitude and safety record there is little else the company can do, except giver her a managers job.
It’s happening in every industry, I’m afraid. Skills sets are being diluted. Not against women, or anyone doing a particular job. But, choose the person for the right reason. Women in my industry (mainline railway)spend 18 months training, 3 months actually doing the job & then have 2 years off because they’re pregnant! Then have to be retrained at vast expense. While this is happening people like me are covering her jobs at 3am!
This happens in the Irish health service. During the pandemic it was run by someone who had no qualifications or experience in healthcare and he always sounded out of his depth on the news, like he did not understand what he was talking about. Nepotism is/was rife in it and there have been cases of people getting jobs there simply because they had a friend or relative working in the health service
"ye tharts fitty tree"
This is old crap
This was made before the new trains came.
Whenever I get on a tube train now, I always make sure Miranda’s not driving it first
I’d imagine she hasn’t lasted until now as a driver, not with that attitude. She’s probably a manager now! ;-)
@@nedseagoon5101 Yeah true, pretty sure that attitude just makes her even more attractive to promote!
This was almost 20 years ago, doubt she still works there,
@@nedseagoon5101 Agree. She didn't show the right aptitude for the job. She wont be a driver now.
You can rest easy she isn't a driver anymore.. she runs a cake/baking business.. at least she's not in front of a ten tonne train and risk to killing people
Miranda's flippant attitude towards what is a serious safety issue is disgraceful.
@@danielwoodhouse8720 Thats just pushing them all over the edge not true
The thing is it's not excessively bad and it does happen (drivers make mistakes everywhere, overruns, spads etc), but she needs to have a "I'm not going to let it happen" approach to it and even though they didn't end in trouble, she should still appreciate going forward that she should observe aspects more and not make it a frequent occurrence. 2 spads in 2 years is certainly a borderline for concern.
Despite that, credit where credit is due, when you make mistakes on the job is it important you are completely honest, aid with the investigation and leave no detailed unturned which from the looks of things she was cooperative and gave all the detail for the investigation (otherwise you wouldn't find yourself very long in the job). Even if you know you're wrong, like having taken a drug, been on alcohol, packing your bag when you shouldn't have been, it is extremely important you tell everything BEFORE the substance and alcohol test at the first possible convenience, it will be alot nicer for you going forward than waiting for a drug test to incriminate you.
Her problem here is a common one. Drivers should always check their signal aspect before they move off, even IF a conductor onboard has given them the start command. This is one of the reasons why DRAs are used.
By that time they had annoyed the you-know-what out of her. Showed her a C-list horror video of a speeding train for no good reason. Her fault wasn't speeding but relying on routine and not being vigilant to the signal. I didn't see anything to correct that, they only tried to make her feel bad about herself. Anyone would've had enough of that after a while.
no harm if she doesn't hit anything.
@@emily1 2 SPADs in 2 years is excessive on the mainline and is a very serious cause for concern. I’ve found that there is a culture difference between mainline and LU where spads are concerned.
