    I'm descended from William Duff of Braco, first Earl Fife through his daughter Isabelle who married Alexander MacIntosh of Blervie and came to America sometime after selling Blervie Castle. Thanks for explaining how we ended up in the Branff area from where the MacDuff castle was located. Wow at 22:10, you showed the plaque with William Duff's arms. Fascinating-thanks for posting! ❤

      @Roderick Macduff no sorry, I am the second generation born in the US and I live in the great state of Texas, kind of the Scotland of the US... kinda a member state, kinda wanting its independence back...etc...lol. I can't track my family Scotland so much. I know my grate grand dad had been in the black watch in ww1 and had terrible wounds. I also know (or was told) we were MacDuff and the dropped the "Mac" when they immigrated to Canada.

    Hi Roderick. My mom's clan is MacDuff, through the Shearer family from Alves, which is east of Elgin and straight north of Dufftown. Ever hear of that name? From what I read, they are a sept of Clan MacDuff. I also found Abernathys on both sides of my family and traced them back to Hugh, Orm and Gillemichael MacDuff, because the name changes from Abernathy to MacDuff, when you trace them back. Also interesting to know the first chief of Clan MacKintosh was Shaw "MacIntoisch" MacDuff. Cheers!

    • @roderickmacduff795
      @roderickmacduff795  3 роки тому +2

      Hello, Yes the MacKintoshes are indeed quite closely related to Macduffs. The Y-DNA shows that we share a common male ancestor some way back. And the Abernethys are Macduffs too as mentioned in the section on the Tower of Abernethy. I'm familiar with the name Shearer but didn't know that they came from near Elgin. Elgin has strong connections with the Duffs of Duff house and they owned much land in that area. Regards Rod

    My grandmothers family were very proud Duffs, coming to the US about 1825. We settled in Indiana Terr (currently North-West Virginia) and have a US line of doctors, lawyers, and corporate executives in our Duff line. The Duff uncle I was named after is remember today (Memorial Day) having 29 missions as B-17 tail gunner bombing the daylights out of Germany, so you might say the Duff line has paid back the bombing at least thirty-fold. Several generations of Duff women in the family are concert pianists and school/math teachers. Listening to my grandmother, Ive picked up the responsibility of carrying on with the Duff line, gathering US members together at Highland games under the Clan MacDuff Society of America - from WV to Florida. Can you PM me via messenger please ? Thank you for your time, work, and expense putting this great video together. I will put a link to it on our FB page for Deep South clan Macduff.

    Direct descendant of Alexander Russell, who sold the land that Duff House is built on to his cousin William Duff. His sister Eleanor Duff married into the "Green" family. The Red Greens were actually Lamonts. James Lamont was a survivor of the massacre of Dunoon that changed his surname to Green. His son William married Eleanor Duff and their son Robert Duff Green was one of the largest landholders in Colonial Virginia.

      Almost all Macduff lines have Duffs further back. My 4x gt grandfather was Alex Duff. Back then they switched quite happily between Duff and Macduff. There was no one split as such. It's just in more modern times folk stuck with one or the other. I have quite a few trees with living Duffs and MacDuffs or Macduffs who are sixth cousins...

    What I read of the early irish monastic the Weymess caves were used by early Culdees missionary hermits. I wonder if the Culdees learned the pictish language, as they were 200, 400-600ad. Greetings from Quebec, Canada!
    The last ancestor we were able to trace was from Limerick Ireland, a man named Charles McDuff, born in 1750. We know his father was named Peter McDuff, and his mother Hannah. I'm not certain of the Scottish connection there, though, as I don't think MacDuffs had holdings in Ireland.
    Your video was a delight! Hopefully one day I'll come across the homeland and tread upon the same ground as my namesake ancestors.
    Peace to you!

    • @roderickmacduff795
      @roderickmacduff795  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Remy - I haven't found Charles McDuff yet. There are certainly plenty of McDuffs in Canada especially French Canadians.

    • @remmychevalier2552
      @remmychevalier2552 3 роки тому +1

      @@roderickmacduff795 For sure! My Uncle who did the genealogy works said the line goes cold after Limerick, Ireland. But I'm not sure if he could access the data from overseas.
      Otherwise, as far as French Canadian goes. As far as I know all our French Canadian line can be traced to that one fellow, Charles McDuff. I also suspect that it was from that line that other North American lines spanned, as the trail seems to be Quebec -> Ontario(1840s) -> USA (1870+)
      and Quebec -> USA (New England) (1880-1930)
      So finding more info about that particular fellow might be able to tie a pretty big chapter of McDuffs / MacDuffs to the homeland. Also, random tidbit, it seems like there's a big possibility that his father was directly from Scotland as he styled his name MacDuff at first, then changed it to McDuff (possibly due to following Catholic faith?) either on arrival in Canada, or right before leaving. Fun stuff, at any rate!
