Great setup cant stop looking at your videos. Just one thing I saw you have you have your feed pipe caped off on the end. Instead of using that fountain pump to move water on top put a valve where your caped off on your feed so u don't have to use that extra pump. Just a thought to save some power and cash. Great work keep it up.
A really good suggestion would be to drill your aquariums slowly one at a time in the bottom so that you can use the same drainage system to perform simple and fast WC.
Great question. I do have hospital or quarantine tanks that I try to use on all new arrivals. But I've come to find out that the bigger the system, the bigger the eco-system it creates and it takes more care of itself. All my fish are in great shape, healthy and active and I'm religious with water changes and cleaning so a healthy fish won't get sick to begin with.
One of the best, simple and practical sump I've ever come up to on UA-cam. Great job, Steve! What kind of heater do you use? Any brand that you can suggest?
I do have all the 10 gallons drilled half way down the back with stand pipes in so I can drain them quickly. All my other aquariums have gravel beds that I have to gravel vac so just draining them would change out the water but not the the dirt out of the bottoms.
Awesome set up mate, Do you have any water evaporation problem as I do not see any lids in your tank? How do you manage this? Can you also put a video for the egg tumbler that you make for your fish room? Thanks
dechlorinator or anything like like. I gravel vac all the bottom row one week and all the top row the next week a just keep it alternating like that. Maybe every couple months I drain the sump and clean it out. Besides that it takes good care of itself. The bigger the system you have the more the "eco-system" takes take of itself. Thats why it's so much easier taking care of a big tank then a littler one. I always recommend at least a 55gallon tank even if your just starting out.
Hey steve. Loved the videos that you made on UA-cam. I'm going to be doing the same thing setting up a fish room in my shed which will hold about 20 to 25 tanks. Loved the way you set up the tanks beautiful. One thing sad tho, Where's the update videos it's been a year lol come on bro show us what's happing with the fish room.
Great videos! Really informational, helped me put alot on setting my sump up even though it wasnt directly a Tutorial. I had a quick question, Did you make your fish tank stands? If so, is there a video on "How to" for them? Thanks!
Love your setup! I'm interested what your water is like ,PH, ammonia, nitrite etc ... how often do you change water , can you please comment on thing like that, thanks.
My whole system right now is 690 gallons so with the 80 gallons in the trashcans every week i'm doing around 10-15% water change since I do use the water to top off the system every couple days also.
I have fry and sellable babies of almost all my species. Just need to know what your interested in. Just added a couple new species to the breeding stock list also!
you have a lot of unused space in the sump. I would consider adding a lighting system and plants to purify the water by nitrate removal. Options for the plants include philodendron, pothos, among many others. I float pond plant baskets in my sump, lit with a cheap fluor. light fixture with gro lux bulbs.
what do you think of my central filtration idea for fish room drilled overflow to ball valve to wet dry trickle filter to sump to heated to pumped to UV sterilizer to return to tank this is for a 10 10 gal system
Thats a nice set up but a word of caution. The blue filter pad looks like the media pads we use in the hvac industry and some of that stuff is treated. If you haven't had any trouble you're probable ok. Just a heads up.
hi i was just wondering how your shelve/racking actually supports your tanks. is 100 percent of the tanks supported or is it just around the edges of the tanks?. ive got to say this video has inspired me :)
thank you very much sir, some questions using some UV system to prevent disease so I see the water is the same in all aquariums? And how many gallons per hour is a water pump? Greetings from Peru
thats what i thought but i wasnt sure if there was some genius failsafe that exists if that does happen. can i also ask where you got your tanks from? were they custom made? did you make them yourself? and ofcourse if you dont mind saying the total cost of setting up (excluding fish ) :) btw i watched 100 videos trying to find out how shared tank systems work, yours was the first that explains it clear enough, im now confident i can do this myself now. i thank you for that :)
When you drain the sump for you WCs do you just directly add conditioner/dechlorinator into the sump and then immediately fill it up? I've always wondered if that is actually safe considering the amount of BB growing in a sump that size
great video but i personally wouldn't want a sump i have seriously thought about it but if 1 tank get's a problem fish or outbreak all your fish may the get the bug diseas ect do you have a quarantine
XxBADMAN88xX The advantage with how he has set it up is that he can turn off the feed or the drain to any one of those tanks to isolate it. I assume at that point he would add a small filter to quarantine the sick tank.
All my water parameters test perfect. Nitrate, nitrite, ammonia are all practically none existent. I just use test strips to check. My tap water is hard here which the cichlids love and the florida crushed coral in the tanks keep the Ph buffered right where it needs to be. I have two 40 gallon trash cans(about to upgrade to some 55 drums) that I just fill with water and let sit for two days so the chlorine and floride and stuff evaporates out of it. I don't add any chems to the water like a
great setup but what about illness and disease prevention that's going to cost you a fortune in meds that why i use air filtration systems instead of sumps and i very nice powerful air pumps all tide into every tank
What can I say inspirational really simple but effective filtration. Great vid.
I hope Steve is still doing this. Thank you.
Gotta give you props that's a great system
That sump is a beast. well thought out. subbed
Awesome fish room!
I just subbed too! Awesome fish room!!! I want to do something like this with a lot of tanks! I love the whole sump system idea too
Nice DIY set up good luck with your breeding

Nice setup and I love the scuba Steve name haha
that is legit dude I love the set up and dieing to see a saltwater!
A really good suggestion would be to drill your aquariums slowly one at a time in the bottom so that you can use the same drainage system to perform simple and fast WC.
Excellent, keep up the good work.
I want fish room so badly :-D
Awesome Bro, nice and clean.

Just subbed! Really like your fish room set up!
Well done bro!!!
Nicely done sir
Awesome !! Great setup u have

Really great video's....

I want to see how the fish are doing now.
very nice setup!!
awesome job, im gonna try something like this soon

Hey man, can we get an update on the fish room. To see how everything is going?
Very nice setup! Will you be updating your website on what you have for sale? Im about to be adding some new stock.
I have fry and sellable babies of almost all my species. Just need to know what your interested in. Just added a couple new species to the breeding stock list also!

drilled overflow to ball valve to wet dry trickle filter to sump to heated to pumped to UV sterilizer to return to tank this is for a 10 10 gal system
Look at the pvc break away then your hose for the drain. Would make it like a garden hose.
Thats a nice set up but a word of caution. The blue filter pad looks like the media pads we use in the hvac industry and some of that stuff is treated. If you haven't had any trouble you're probable ok. Just a heads up.
i hope you smile when you walk in you room
do you use screens or sponges to keep small fish from taking the journey to the sump?
hi i was just wondering how your shelve/racking actually supports your tanks. is 100 percent of the tanks supported or is it just around the edges of the tanks?. ive got to say this video has inspired me :)
thank you very much sir, some questions using some UV system to prevent disease so I see the water is the same in all aquariums? And how many gallons per hour is a water pump? Greetings from Peru
Its just supported around all four edges of the bottom of the tanks.
If you plumb your end cap into the pipe coming out of the pump you would get better flow rate from your pump.
thats what i thought but i wasnt sure if there was some genius failsafe that exists if that does happen. can i also ask where you got your tanks from? were they custom made? did you make them yourself? and ofcourse if you dont mind saying the total cost of setting up (excluding fish ) :) btw i watched 100 videos trying to find out how shared tank systems work, yours was the first that explains it clear enough, im now confident i can do this myself now. i thank you for that :)
ok thanks. what would happen if one of your overflows became blocked? or is that not possible?
Hello and quick question ... are the terra-cotta pots doing anything, besides look, inside the tanks?
Floating plants would be perfect for sump to eat up nitrates!
what kind of heater are you using in the sump, is that also the only heater you are using for the entire systems...
When you drain the sump for you WCs do you just directly add conditioner/dechlorinator into the sump and then immediately fill it up? I've always wondered if that is actually safe considering the amount of BB growing in a sump that size
Were do you buy your filter pads both blue and white
Lave rock awesome
How often and what amount do you water change?
Wow.
verry cool and clever (Y)
What sizes are your bulkhead drainage?
Damn what the heck happened to this guy?! Beautiful fish and system.
I didn't notice any air lines. Did I miss something?
What pump are you using
great video but i personally wouldn't want a sump i have seriously thought about it but if 1 tank get's a problem fish or outbreak all your fish may the get the bug diseas ect do you have a quarantine

i use larva rocks as well in my 2 X 75 g tanks, but still my water not clear enough kind of red water...how your get clear like that..
Boss
Its not really that likely to happen unless maybe you have some live plants that could float up into it and block it up.
great setup but what about illness and disease prevention that's going to cost you a fortune in meds that why i use air filtration systems instead of sumps and i very nice powerful air pumps all tide into every tank
Wow! Nice setup. I believe you don't have a girlfriend.
1800GMAMPOS I agree with you
Why don't you answer anyone's questions or comments?
