Old Composer REACTS to Evanescence What You Want | First Listen Breakdown
Evanescence Reactions
🤙🤙🤙ALOHA GANG!!! So yea, usually on my first listen in most cases I don't react to the most famous or artistically expressive track. That's why I need you to drop the titles from Evanescence that I should do the next time I revisit them for a breakdown - AWWWWWWRIGHT!🤙🤙🤙
Didn't expect Evanescence! It's funny, as someone who likes all of these super technical, artistic, non-mainstream bands like Periphery and Opeth and Tesseract and Jinjer, Evanescence feels like a "guilty pleasure" of mine. But I also feel bad calling them that, because Amy Lee's voice is unlike anyone else's and some of their songs are just badass. Still, I knew their music was a little...simpler, even years ago before I got into all of the prog rock and metal that I prefer now.
I consider The Open Door the most creative album of theirs, and the most interesting songs for me from that album are Cloud Nine, Lose Control, and Your Star. I usually prefer the more upbeat songs with less dramatic lyrics, and even though the 2011 album isn't my favorite it has some good ones. Erase This, End of the Dream, and Say You Will are cool. You're going to get a lot of more mainstream recommendations, but I think mine are really more under the radar. Say You Will, for example, is only on like, deluxe editions of that album or something.
Try 3TEETH - SLAVEGOD
bro..PLEASSSSSE listen/react to her their song "my immortal", with the rock band ending specifically! chicken skin for daaaaays.
Please react to: "SHATTERED SKIES - The world we use to know" (its the name of the song and also album's title). A brilliant and "heterogenic"' masterpiece. Its a pleasure listening your professionalism and passion. Greetings from Portugal
Breathe no more
Also - I suggest and request the song "LITHIUM" by Evanescence - it is one of their best!!
I AGREE MY FAVORITE
Regarding composition, *Your Star* is their most interesting and one of their best songs! I'd like you to check it out.
Yeeessss. One of the best
By fat their best song
your star is a masterpiece in a great album. most of the songs in "the open door" are good.
I love that song. Amy's a great writer and musician. The Open Door is a great album.
If you do another Evanescence track you should check out "Call Me When You're Sober". I'm really enjoying your reaction vids, your perspective as a composer is always an interesting one.
Yeah. What You Want is weak
Agree, of all her songs I enjoy that one stands out as the most vocally powerful for me. It really feels like it's crossing a threshold somehow. But I get the sense it might be less about the raw power she puts into that track (which I feel like she puts in to most of her songs at one point or another), and more about how well the rest of the instrumentation supports what she is doing and emphasizes it.
The song you have to check out from Evanescence is Lithium.
Lots of good Evanescence songs to dissect. A few: "Call Me When You're Sober" and "My Heart is Broken".
My heart is broken first 💖
@@layslamay471 Yeah. One of their best. Especially knowing the back story.
Also End of the Dream.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate this man's ridiculous effort to add such amazing variety here, while keeping an extremely high bar for quality across all his videos? The dude can talk about Snarky Puppy, Opeth, Dirty Loops, Pearl Jam, Tool, Porcupine Tree, Dream Theater, Evanescence, Gojira, and god help if I won't scream in joy when he drops a video for Britney's Spear's "Toxic" and analyzes the living shit out of it. Geebz, we love you. Keep the videos coming.
Its way better than the garbage truck load of failed wannabe rappers doing reaction vids of zero talent with captions like 'caught me off guard!' 'yall didnt tell me this!' 'wow definitely my top 5'
@@MW-cx3sb yeah and all they can add is a blank comment about how they liked or disliked the song
Whisper
Your Star - open door version
Lacrymosa - open door version
Lose Control
Imaginary - Fallen version
You will love all these by Evanescence. 🖤🖤
Her voice is so amazing! I could listen to her and just a piano all day!
I really adore that you put this song for a first Evanescence listen - like the catchiness of this one! :)
It's a great mid-way point, and it was that too. You can really hear the evolution of their music when you compare this to the earlier and more recent material. I love basically everything they've done but they've really evolved over the years and I cannot wait until we get to see them at a festival or arena tour again, their new material is definitely on that kind of scale for me.
@@ct5625 2018 they did a live concert with a symphony in Munic Germany. It is a full concert here on site. Her vocal power is greater and her upper register gets higher yet. The rich sound matched by the power in her voice.
The self-titled album never got enough love. The production is absolutely superb and the straight-ahead rock style was just perfect.
EVERYONE BUY THIS MAN A CUP OF COFFEE ☕. Meteoric rise to 100k
A great throw back Thursday would be Faith No More- the Real Thing
bro..PLEASSSSSE listen/react to her their song "my immortal", with the rock band ending specifically! chicken skin for daaaaays.
Great reaction. Check out more Evanescence. Maybe the new ones from their new album: "The Bitter Truth" (March 26th) 1- Wasted on you 2- The Game is over 3- Use my voice 4- Yeah Right
This!!!!
Amy Lee is the lead singer of the band Evanescence. You should check out some of her solo stuff. It's not metal at all, more classical.
“Shatter Me” by Lzzy Hale and Lindsay Sterling will make your ears MELT. It’s a haunting combo of beautiful violin and Lzzy Hale’s amazing vocals!
Amy Lee... One of the best voices in Rock. Ever.
Would love a reaction to Type O Negative - Everything Dies. They are like the goth Beatles to me.
Nah. Sisters of merrcy would be the goth Beatles... ;)
"My Immortal" is by far their most beautiful song in my opinion. Definitely worth the listen. "Lithium" too is amazing.
Aloha from Ireland again.. Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil are two other bands you should check in this genre.. I like when you pick your own song of a band that you cant go wrong with which is pretty much every band you've done so far.. 🤘😎🤘
Love that t-shirt brah
wow they sound different. Fallen was 2000's rock then the open door was very electronic and this is nothing like those. Tourniquet is my favorite song by them.
"My Heart is Broken" from that same third album. Great song.
Self titled album was from 2014. A best of.. 2018 Synthesis with live orchesrea last one and The bitter truth is either out or out shortly. Written in part during isolation and the rest locked down together.
Love the music of evanescence
She’s amazing live!
Sweet sacrifice. Amazing tune. And of course Nobody's Fool
If you do another Evanescence reaction thry actually came with an album (called Synthesis) full of symphonic renditions of their older music.
This is from 2011.
They've definitely evolved over the years. This actually feels like the midway between what they were and what they are now. And it really is that.
Their more modern music is definitely more mature, more "stadium" rock, the kind of thing that has the right balance of power if that makes sense? I don't why it's worked out that way but I can only think Amy Lee has influenced that, and her new band is amazing too, I think they have more creative involvement than perhaps the first band did.
If you listen to their earlier material, then this, then hear something like 'Wasted on you' the difference is really impressive.
I always loved them, but their sound has definitely evolved from the classic 'pop rock' to the kind of thing you can imagine playing right before a band like Foo Fighters headlining.
That because she went you to make a rock album. It was kind of a waste of her talents. Just being rock. The Bitter Truth is very good. But could have been great had Amy been a little more Amy in it. If that makes sense. Instead of almost forcing Rock Amy on every song. Yes, Rock Amy is good. But Amy being Amy is epic.
Love your videos! There is a band called Circa Survive that is along the music technicality lines of tool...definitely not to their extent but someone I think you would really enjoy picking apart! These are awesome keep up the great work sir!
100k getting real close! :D
Listen to Hi-Lo it’s one of my favorites
Never Go Back is a good one!! Their new song Better Without You as well!
More Evanescence and Amy Lee❤
I love your use of the word "goober" as a verb
I really like that little jazzy context she threw her voice into at the end of the bridge. It was a nice little break from the rock/metal vibe.
You should react to My Last Breath by Evanescence. It's one of their most beautifully constructed songs.
Yeah.... I agree, tracks from that Fallen album is really fun in musical arrangement... very creative
🔥🥰My Immortal is my fave Evanescence song. I dont usually ask for songs, but its Fabulous!💞💞🥰Also Hi Lo featuring Lindsey Sterling( violinist) two of my faves. Love to hear your reaction😍
Blind Guardian - Wheel of Time (studio version)
The self titled album released in 2014. Seeing the video worth it. Her eye makeup on point. Brings out her baby blue eyes and shows her emotions flowing through the track.
Next thing I have to recomend is their 2018 Synthesis live concert in Hamburg Geemany with the Hamburg Symphony. Lacrymosa shows of Amy's power and range. Its damn impressive.
BTW Fallen their debut CD came out in 2002. Was featured in the Aflek Daredevil movie.
Hey Geebz, I love the channel! It's great to get a professional perspective on these songs! I just listened again to your Steven Wilson - Regret #9 reaction, it's brilliant. I wanted to ask you, have you ever heard of a guitarist caleld Nick Johnston? He's released a few albums and his last 2 albums have been absolutely sublime. Really not what you'd expect from a instrumental guitarist. The albums are instrumentals but the songs almost sound like film scores! I'd love to know your thoughts about his composition and what it is about his songs that I just can not stop listening to.
I've seen them live in Auckland new Zealand 2012
Try All I’m Living For… so good!
Unexpected but cool choice. Would like to hear you do their song ‘Call me when you’re sober’ as well. Also on the female range, I’d love to hear you do Flyleaf’s Again or Beautiful Bride and Halestorm’s Familiar Taste of Poison. allrriigghhtt 🤙🏼
I recommend anything from Evanescence's album Synthesis album, but in particular The End of the Dream or Lacrymosa.
awwwriight!
Pretty sure the hit you heard was "Bring Me To Life", dont know a single person that hasn't heard it lmao.
Suggestions:
Slice The Cake - Stone And Silver Part 1 - The Mountains of Man
Textures - Awake
Slice The Cake - Unending Waltz
Slice The Cake - Westward Bound Part I - The Lantern
Dance Gavin Dance - Blue Dream
Emarosa - The Past Should Stay Dead
Slipknot - Vermilion
Aaaawh please do Anathema, emotional ride
Threshold of Transformation by Isis, last song on their last album, their Swan song... its so worth it
I'd also love to see him do 'Holy Tears', or 'So Did We'. I think he'd really dig their sound. Love me some ISIS.
Steven Wilson - Drive Home please!
One little correction; Evanescence is the name of the band, the singer is called Amy (I don't know why it amuses me that her name is Amy, I guess you don't think of an Amy as being a powerful singer ... kind of like the wizard in Monty Python and the Holy Grail named "Tim").
Oh and the little dude dressed in green is Link, not Zelda :p
That said, their stuff is always really well processed. I have never seen them live but they use so many vocal overdubs I hope they have a handful of backup singers for live performance.
Or they could just use the pre recorded vocal overdubs instead of backup singers. Thats what happens most of the time.
Nah the overdub is just for the records. She doesn't use it live and to be fair, she doesn't need it
Great video! Please take a look to Evanescence - En of the Dream Synthesis live DVD, and Lacrymosa same synthesis live DVD. Full orchestra... Some symphonic arrangement.
People say Evanescence is a rock band - this album and their newest one make them Symphonic Metal to me! 🙌🙌
Blood on the Radio by Thank You Scientist. This song is an absolute masterpiece for me and I feel like it's a jazzy journey that is right up your alley. Even if you don't do a vid on it, give it a listen.
Sons of Apollo - Goodbye Divinity. Everyone’s over 50 in the band and the bass player is 67. Some famous names in the line up too. I think you’d dig it!
Static X please! and The Noose - a perfect circle, Korn, etc
Nice dad shirt geebz! :D
Thanks! 😁
Ne Obliviscaris, intra venus
Returning Empty Handed by Underoath is a must!!!
Love your content. Would live to hear your opinion on a jazz drummer from the London scene. Yussef Dayes would recommend "Love is the Message" live at Abbey Road
I would love to hear your opinion, and input regarding the guys that saved metal in the 90's Pantera.
React to THE HUMAN ABSTRACT - ANTEBELLUM
Hi from Australia, love your channel. Please do a reaction to Cardiacs, you'd love them. One of the most amazing and underrated bands of the last 30 years. Fiery Gun Hand or The Everso Closely Guarded Line are good places to start.
Cheers.
Don’t forget you said you were going to do a Vektor song this week :3
Meshuggah as well 😉
Forgot I'd heard this, good tune. 👍🏻 A bit like one of Lacuna Coil's uptempo ones. 🤟🏻✌🏻
you should try any song on "fallen" or "the open door". I love "your star" (I think it's the masterpiece of the second album).
by the way, evanescence was a band, not just the singer. the first two albums were great, but then she changed most of the band and in my opinion it was never the same. if you replace 4 out of 5 people it's going to sound different. each performer contritube to the whole of a song or album, so of course it's not the same with the different members.
my favorite is the formation that played in "anywhere but home" (the live dvd) and "the open door".
I miss that band.
you should check "weight of the world" "tourniquet" "imaginary" "whisper"... well... when you have some free time just listen to the whole "fallen" and "the opendoor" albums. (and search for the video version of "my immortal" with the full band, it's better than the album version).
7:55 the vibe I get off of this part is the same vibe I get from the American Gods theme song. I wonder if that's my brain being weird or if there's something to that.
Did you consider doing Pantera?! They are soo strong and powerful and soo skilllled Musicians (Dimebag Darrel in my op one of the most creative Metal Guitarists) and This Love or Cemetery Gates could be 2 cool Songs to dive in the World of Pantera ❤ Anywayz, thx for your nice effort and clever analysis of so much great Music for us !
Hello from New Zealand. I’d love to hear you react to Arcade Fire!
Yes! Neighborhood #3 is my favorite
Greets from Mexico!, thanks a lot for all these videos and hope you have an amazing day. Please please please go for Polyphia - Saucy
Bro how come you STILL haven't reacted to ERRA yet? Please do Divisionary for starters!!!
Evanescence- Lacrymosa (live)
You should listen to The Game Is Over
A R K - HEAL THE WATERS ... come on geebz :D
Evanescence-Lost in Paradise........ Can u share your review with us? Beautiful song
NIGHTWISH!! Come ON!!
Do Wasted on You from their new album, The Bitter Truth.
BTW Amy Lee does a lot of the composition herself.
Please react to Jason Richardson and luke Holland - Hos Down
You should check Chelsea Wolfe out, "Feral love" "House of metal" "after the fall" "grey days"
Please do: world's end girlfriend - Radioactive Spell Wave
Amy Lee is the best female singer in Rock. You should also check out "Wasted on You".
Please react to: "SHATTERED SKIES - The world we use to know" (its the name of the song and also album's title). A brilliant and "heterogenic"' masterpiece. Its a pleasure listening your professionalism and passion. Greetings from Portugal
You are awsome. May I suggest Björk - Army of me ?
Love me some "human behavior" by her.
@@derricktipps9867 Yeah. I'd settle for any Björk decompose ;)
have you heard the cover by MM9? that's how I found out about her song actually
ua-cam.com/video/5KpXTbs3IYs/v-deo.html
@@dodgrblu oh thank you very much for this! I haven't heard MM9 before. Very nice. Added to my list ;)
@@Untollerant you're welcome, they're a now unfortunately disbanded Sydney band. Check out the rest of their stuff, it's pretty good, and also the singer's own project Switchkicker, the album 17102 used to be one of my favourites.
ELDER. Great band for you. Dead roots stirring. Let’s take that journey.
Puscifer. - song Potions. On the recycle.
Hope the surf is big so we get more songs decomposed. Alright. I still here. I am still here. Still here
Coheed and Cambria or dance Gavin dance
Awesome channel! I would love if you reacted to the new track of While She Sleeps - You Are All You Need, or tracks like The Guilty Party or Elephant. Keep up with the amazing reactions!
They dropped a new album the other day - just saying! 😉
Chevelle - remember when
React to Thred Of Omen
The self titled album is my favorite. I have been a fan since the beginning, but I choose not to live in Fallen/Ben Moody land. The band has involved so much and I appreciate the work of Evanescence from beginning until now. Can't wait for The Bitter Truth!
Amy would have never lasted in Moody land. It was too confining. As Amy said many times, "Ben wanted to make hits. I wanted to make music. It was never going to work long term. Had he not left I was going to." Every album she's done is different than the others. Sure, the core sound is the same but different. The Open Door Amy used everything she knows doing it. It was EV at its core but not the same as Fallen.
Ladies and gents... we've got a "double goober"
this sounds way better for me than most things in the past, outside of Bring Me to Life, where the guest guy really made the song shine. The way she sang in other songs and the style bugged me, but this more focused catchy rock style works way better.
Hmm. never heard this one before from them, not really a fan of it. Of course I have not listened to them since early 2000's though.
Recommend another early 2000's female fronted band - Flyleaf - "All Around Me"
also still, Band-Maid - "Warning!" or "No God"
engineering talk was best part of this video. :P
😔
Do everybody's fool! It's a masterpiece and it's a perfect song for this era with all the shit happening.
Yap away my friend, yap away.
Circle back to karnivool soon dude? Broken record here lol
TOOL - ROSETTA STONED
I feel like the drums are buried underground in this song. other than that I think its pretty catchy
Try my immortal
