Include me in the number of grateful folks for this video. I have a pair of beautiful Born sandals, the straps are much wider, but I have a very high instep and the straps weren't long enough to reach around my foot, which made it impossible for me to wear the shoes, in addition to struggling physically to bend down and try to fasten/unfasten the buckles. I had the idea of adding velcro but wasn't sure exactly the best way to do it. Well, I've learned that one can find a how-to for almost anything on UA-cam and that's where I went, and your video is the only one I've found that shows this instruction. I ordered a four-foot roll of the velcro for a tad over $5, it came overnight, and today I am wearing my shoes! I did have a little concern about the velcro coming loose if I'm not holding both sides while unfastening it, so I just stapled it together on the end that receives the most stress and it works beautifully! The staples are not next to my skin because of the extension of leather underneath it. I used regular office staples but if the staples want to come loose I can always use stronger ones to restaple. So many many thanks to you for sharing this video. I now know how to do it for any other shoes that I need to extend, plus I have the rest of the four feet of velcro to do other cool things with!
OMG, your comment just made my day. I always love to find ways to "fix" things so I hope you follow my blog where I share a lot more of these ideas. www..jtouchofstyle.com
Thank you for this great turorial, I recently purchased some super cute ankle strap sandals that hurt my lateral malleolus so bad it bled, now I can hack them!
I can't believe they even still make the buckles when you have something like velcro now, haha. You're going to love this hack because it's so easy. I just posted a live video on Facebook too showing how fast it is to do: fb.watch/mANxFfhL2A/
I'm so glad it helped. I swear by this and think it's so helpful. Don't forget to follow my blog because I always have a ton of hacks like this that I share, XOOX
When I was converting mine, I could get it done in less than 5 minutes for each pair...it's that easy. Just make sure to have long enough velcro for it to stay when you walk!!!
This was so helpful! I had just bought some sandals online that are hard to buckle and 1 of the buckles came damaged. I would MUCH rather have velcro on my sandals and I just ordered some online!!!!!
I swear it's one of the best things I've discovered, Jillie. It's super easy to do, and seriously, if you have any issues, feel free to reach out (jtouchofstyle@gmail.com). I hope you sign up for my website too because I'm always coming up with these wonderful hacks, but I don't always have time to put them up on UA-cam. OXOX
That's what I did with all mine too. I still have one that I left with the clasp just because I can get them on and off without buckling them. But it's been a fabulous hack!!
Hi, my first time here- my sandals are worn with orthodics..so sandals are $250+; orthodics $500 + 2 years ago..so they are worth repairing..I'm a sewer, so I guess using a DENIM sewing needle might help me to securely sew the velcro...I've never heard of industrial Velcro but I'll start searching- thanks so much from Australia
After you do this to one pair of shoes, you'll be hooked. It just makes them so much easier to get on and off. Every once in a while, I have to superglue the velcro to the shoe material, but then it stays for a long time again. Such an easy fix and glad you found me!!
thank you so very much for sharing this tip. I had seen this and was not sure of the steps, but now I can fix not just the original shoes I bought a second pair and will velcro both. You are a lifesaver
I'm so glad I could help. I love it when I come up with these fixes for things. I hope you follow me on my blog (Jodie's Touch of Style) because I share a lot more ideas in every post. Sometimes under the Insider tips!!
Thank you! I thought of switching them to velcro, but was SO hoping someone was going to show me how to do it! And there you were 😊 Experienced at doing it, too! Thanks so much for being so clear and detailed. I feel so dressed up in my strap sandals but oh, what an almost impossible task. Can’t wait to buy some industrial strength Velcro!
And I've done it both the right way and wrong way, LOL!! That's why I included how to fix it if you mess up. I've learned lately that sometimes I can keep the buckle on the very first hole if the velcro doesn't need to be that long.
I love coming up with these ideas. I hope you join me on my blog too because that's where I spend most of my time and include great tricks like this. www.jtouchofstyle.com
I’ve been thinking of doing this for ages but wasn’t super sure how to accomplish it. I hate that buckles take so much time and I’m always the one everyone else is waiting for when putting on my shoes. This looks so easy and I think I’ll end up wearing my strappy buckle sandals more! I’m gonna give your method a go!
It is super easy and I haven't been sorry at all that I've changed out almost all my buckle ankle strap shoes!! Make sure to share with your friends so they can do it too❤️❤️
Isn't it wonderful?? I swear I do this to almost all my buckle straps now. I've also learned you can leave the buckle on if there are enough holes , so make sure to see if you can.
@@jaydeebee69 Isn't it just the best?? I can't believe everyone doesn't do this!!! Let's spread the word and make people love their ankle strap shoes again!!
Is their a reason you left the elastic part on? I ask because my elastic part is stretched and almost broken that's why I was looking for ways to repair it.
Great question. When I first came up with this idea, I removed the elastic but it didn't create enough length of velcro to stay attached especially when my ankles moved. But if you go to 5:26 in the video, I do show you can add new elastic. That's what I did for the ones I cut it off. It wasn't super easy, but I did it!! Now if you have enough length of strap without the elastic then you won't need it. I try to have a good 1.5 inches in length!! It also depends on how wide the strap is. Does that help at all??
@@Michannelle Feel free to always reach out. I love that this works and I do it to at least 80% of my ankle strap shoes. I probably should buy the white velcro too, but I doubt anyone notices if a little bit of the black shows. :)
I have done that to some lately. As long as there is still a hole that isn't covered by the velcro. One woman did comment that she likes it better without the buckle because it doesn't snag on her pants. So it depends on what you like the best. Thanks Wilma!!
That's a good question. I would assume it would, but I haven't personally tried it except on ankle straps ones. As long as you have enough velcro touching each other I would think it would be good. For instance, when I first started, my velcro pieces were only a half inch long, and that didn't hold well enough. Now I try to make them over an inch long and they stay put just fine. XOXO
@@jtouchofstyle I'll give it a shot. The velcro isn't that expensive and if it doesn't work well, then it seems pretty easy to reverse the procedure, don't you think?
@@druidriley3163 I would agree. Let me know how it goes and I'd love to see photos too. I would even add in into my blog post if you agree. My email is Jtouchofstyle@gmail.com
