I was expecting this repair to cost $400+ but I was largely mistaken! For the amount of time and expertise you put in, the final price was very very fair

I can't believe this landed on my timeline but I'm glad it did.
My grandad was a shoe repairer, had his own shop in Birmingham, he sadly passed away some time ago now but i still remember a few of these processes from when he had his machinery in his workshop at home and as a hobby repaired friends and family shoes.

My father was from Leon, Gto. Mexico he was a master of doing all the leathers jobs since they need to do the leather from scrap to the beautiful pieces
You probably made them better shoes than they were before when new. You make your work look so easy and I am sure it’s really not. Great job!

Lol that's with the most stuff, even good products are as best as the finance appartment would let it be and could be mostly easlily upgraded for small money. But then there would be depreciation, if it is a collectors item and not fully original. - but on the other hand, if you use something for its purpose it will mostly automatically depreciate, so it doesnt matter.
If you use someone like Dan, who is a cobbler and not just someone trained to put soles and heels on, you get a quality job.
It's a case of getting what you pay for, especially when the shoes that are being repaired are expensive to start with.
I'm sure that if he ever started making bespoke mens shoes , they would be better quality than most of the named luxury brands.

I love watching people who take such pride in their work and do it so well. People are so wasteful these days; there's something to be said for buying quality items and taking care of them. My dad taught us to always take care of our belongings. It was an interesting process. Well done!

@Tring Shoe Repairs Is there an apprenticeship in your shop? I would like to learn how to manufacture shoe, shoe lasts/ moulds, repair shoes. Hope there is a apprenticeship available

Have you ever tried to iron out the creases, it works for me on Jordan’s and other leather trainers. I stuff the toe with paper to make the creases flat and then put a wet towel over the toe and then iron over the towel. Works perfectly. Not sure if it would work on these types of shoes as obviously the leather is a higher quality but just a thought

I am no cobbler but I'm technically minded and could watch this stuff for ages tbh! Have a big respect for craftsmen like yourself, keeping the skill alive. Love seeing restoration work. One question though, the boots you're wearing at 7:33 are army boots right? They look well decent and I'd love to find a pair of those bad boys so thought I'd ask! Haha!

Great work, they were certainly well worn! Would have been much cheaper if they'd been brought in earlier. Didn't understand why you only put on one, very thick, layer of leather on when they originally had two, wouldn't it have made the shoes very unyielding and somewhat clumsy? Really like your videos.
Love watching a proper craftsman at work! Dan, I hope that at some point you will pass your skills on to an apprentice. In fact I would be happy to send in some shoes for your future apprentice to practice on. I'll even pay the return postage! lol

My father was a shoe maker. Watching this, remindes me of working in his shop. His supplier was Persy adlere. Back in 1990 he'd charge about £10. He'd also channel the groove by hand for the blake stiching then fold the the material back over. He also would have painted the sole and polished it on the finisher. I wish i had taken the time to learn his trade, but alas i was more interested in fixing cars. I remember the smell in the shop, watching this brings back all those memories from when he was alive.
