I used this trick too. But for my guitar cables, I punched a hole and inserted a zip tie looped over the guitar cable for a semi-permanent solution. Great idea!
Great idea! Just a heads up for anyone trying this for XLR-cables. You'll need to make the straps longer and the bit that you cut to insert into the hole also needs to be longer. Also, couldn't get this to work with my type of hole puncher (standard A4 puncher for four holes) so be aware of what type you have.
