This is the best video on tinitus I've ever seen. I have hppd since 2 years, sophrology helped me to overcome it, it has subside thanks to it. I have tinnitus for 12 years. It was a problem for me during 6 months at that time, then it subsided a lot. So I lived with it with no issue since many years. But 3 days ago it flared up...alcohol, tobacco, not enough sleep, cervical pain... and here we go again. I can hear it now during the day (it's still mild thank to God) I used to love sophrology because it's so great for severe anxiety, depression and to cool down the nervous system. I guess i'm gonna practice again everyday. Thanks a lot for your video, your channel is great.

I've been struggling with tinnitus for 3 months now. Last week I saw my chiropractor who adjusted me and said it was a gut issue. So I started enzymes and probiotics and honestly that same day the volume went down! I had almost a week of feeling hopeful but then a couple days ago I had bad anxiety and the volume went back up. I feel that perhaps the ringing in my case is both gut related and mostly anxiety. I'm going to continue working with the chiro. Clearly the volume is capable of going down so I have hope. Thanks for your videos Julian! I'm determined to be a positive testimony in your "tinnitus cured" video!

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  7 років тому +2

Can you find a craniosacral therapist and go once a week for a while and practice tai chi or yoga? This will help your activation come down. Definitely having a healthy gut is going to help. This will mean there is less resistance in your body which in turn stops the alarm bells ringing. Good luck with it all. Best wishes Julian PS when I went on a candida diet to treat my blood-based candidiasis my tinnitus fell away. ( NB - for anyone else reading this - if you do not have candida you do not need to do this)

So lucky to have found this video on my first search. I've been having a sound in my left ear. The only relief is when I would breathe deeply. It would go away and come back rather quickly. I never would have guessed this new ear issue could be related to my stress. I quit a very stressful job weeks ago and I am currently moving from east to west coast US. Stress galore. Which you now explained how the deep breathing temporarily relieved the sound in my ear. Thank you so much. I will also be seeing a doctor.

Thank you very much for your videos. I was told by my gp, ent PA, and know it alls that you have to have hair cells repaired, and even from a supposedly well regarded doctor on the forums that there would never be a cure for tinnitus. Well, between your videos, seeking outside help, and your books that fill in the gaps, my tinnitus is a LOT lower, my response to it is much improved as well. The information in the books helped take the fear out of it, and explained why some things are relevant in nature that affects it all. I intend to seek hands on therapy in the future, whenever that is. Nearest CST is in another state, heh. Like you say, it isn't a quick fix, but deciding to live with a tinnitus preventing life style is really helping.
Please don't allow the haters, trolls and all around just hateful people prevent your work, I thought my life was over, now I'm able to enjoy things again that I haven't been able too since the later part of July 2016, 2 days before my 44th birthday, ha!

After 30 years of slowing worsening T a cure for me would just be to have it fade into the background for most of the day. I don't need it to be gone completely, in fact I'm so used to it now that it would probably just freak me out too much anyway. All the best to fellow sufferers .

There are many reasons that some people will never get better, but that's due to factors that people aren't gonna take the time to read or learn about. Your videos and books have helped me so much, please don't let negative experiences of some people real or made up stop your work. My advice to people is, you've got to have the ability and willingness to do your own detective work and not blindly accept what people say or tell you. I don't care if their credintials are so long that people blindly worship them as God. I personally have done and experienced things in my life that can't be proven and even some that can. Very important, take notes on your findings. That way when people on purpose or not , try to draw you into their own suffering, you'll have written notes to help pull you out of that pit of despair. You'll need those notes, o yes you will. To my would be enemies on the play field of life, I don't even want you to suffer in pointless misery, therefore I'm just trying to be helpful, but, I accept that I'll receive some hate, but I think some will be helped, so, whatever. And, I'm not gonna live on here trying to defend myself. I know too much about things and people to spend pointless energy on that.

Your life is not over. You have temporarily gone over the limit and need to get help to shift out of overwhelm or fight or flight back into well-being mode. The more this happens the more the sound becomes less intrusive and starts to back off. The central nervous system will start filtering out this background buzz when you no longer care about it, focus on it and switch off. I wish you a steady recovery. Thanks a lot for your clear videos, if I were in London I would love to have a session with you ! =) but your videos are doing their jobs. At the beginning, 5 months ago, the noise was unbearable, I was trying to get out of my head everytime. And it started a "loop" of bad thinking and claustrophobia. Medication did not help at all, and things slowly got better but what really made the difference was the acupuncture and the facial muscle massage therapy. However, there is still a buzzing, and I really think it is the noise of my nervous system. Sometimes it does not really bother me, but I can't control it. I still don't really understand how to quiete it... Sometimes, I can hear it more from one side, and I hear the silence on the other side and I try to focus on this silence and GOD it is so..."orgasmic" (pardon me the expression ahah.).
Anyway, now I want to make it better. But I know that somehow, it won't until my life changes. Thanks again for your videos. :)

I usually wear a mouth guard, and afraid not to. I am 66, and great health... but my jaw has most of the issues... My hearing isn't as good as it was, however not a real problem... I've had my tinnitus since I was 11years old!! Every two years it increased in intensity. By the age of 56, I had lost 45% of my hearing in both ears. No one can tell me whether my tinnitus caused this hearing loss. All I know is I have hearing aids in both ears and I still have severe bouts of screeching, ringing, feeling like I'm submerged in water as well as overpowering white noise. It happens day and night wether it's quiet or not in the room. Whether I'm stressed or not. I don't think anyone can judge how bad their tinnitus is!! This is my pet peeve regarding people like you that don't understand there is a difference of severity in every individual that has it. I am a devout Buddhist since 1986, so you can't tell me it's only caused by stress. It's amazing how people think they know what you're talking about. Nor can they possibly understand what I go through on a day-to-day basis raising children single handed lay to young adults. By the way I'm also legally blind. I'm sorry but I just get really annoyed at youtubers that think they know the answer because They don't!!! Maybe it worked for you because you don't have it as severe as me, but I have tried everything that I could possibly try. I've come to accept the fact that it's very well might here to stay and I can't put it in the back of my mind like other people can. I'll tell you why mine is terrible it's worse then a lot of people including you. When I was young I could do it but it just got worse. It even affected my vertigo! I remember a person telling me "oh I have tinnitus can't you put it in the back of your mind?" I've gotten so fed up just trying to be nice and saying no I can't do that anymore. For you it may be just an inconvenience, for others it can be in downright annoying and for me it causes severe pain, aggravation and downright depression. We have tinnitus groups at the CHS in Canada, but that doesn't work either. I've had adjustments done that didn't work, I've had brain and cranial work done that didn't work. In fact most of my specialist said I have one of the worst cases that they've seen in Canada. Most people can get on with their lives; this is taking over my life the only thing that saved me from depression was my Buddhist practice and I would never give that up, because yes I agree with you on that, you can find a enlightenment through chanting! But as far as stress making it worse, it doesn't make a difference for me . It is there 24 seven from the minute I wake up to when I go to sleep it wakes me up in the middle of the night too!!have you ever heard about that? I'm sorry I'm being so unusually harsh, but I'm frustrated. I am frustrated about people thinking they know everything when they don't. I see you trying to help people, but I wish there was someone like me out there that could help me. Thanks for listening❣🇨🇦

    Mr. Hill
I've recently gotten tinnitus from doing a tour with my band for four days. About a year and half ago, I was exposed to loud gunshots in my right ear at a gun range due to my right ear plug not fitting properly in my ear. I swear I didn't notice any ringing in my ear then. Until after my tour, I noticed a very high pitch ringing in my right ear and bare in mind that I wore earplugs during the shows. I went to the ent and audiologist to check my ears and it turned out I had impacted earwax. When they removed the earwax, the ringing went down considerably, but I still heard some ringing in my right ear. It sounds strange, but the ringing sounds like high tension wire static. Something from like an old tv screen, but when it heats up. The ringing flickers like my brain is trying to make a connection to neurons or something of the sort. When I lay in bed the ringing subsides for a little bit. I took an audio gram and I still have good hearing. Ive been staying away from loud noises for a little while now and wondering if this is something that can fixed. Any thoughts?

It doesn't bother me to much when I'm around noise but it's bothering when I'm in my room when it's quiet Is this temporary? Will it go away? Hope to get some feed back 😊 I didn't think going to a fun concert will cause this even tho it was loud but I just pray to God that it's temporary.

I wanted to ask anyone out there an important question . Can it help you with tinnitus to avoid stressors such as the news and events that make you depressed or very nervous?
Because on TED as I mentioned tinnitus is related to depression , stress, and the limbic system like Mr. Cowan is saying in general here. I realize this sounds stupid though however life brings these things sometimes unexpectedly . I like the Tao without reading it to much it has given me peace . I've also noticed with it though and don't like to say - I was also predicting things , events before they happened once in a while which didn't do anything but frighten me frankly . So coincidence how many of us have had that right? Anyway again thanks for this video !

I think this what has caused my condition. I try to control my temper & stress but its not easy. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thank you.

    Julian,
I have a question of you don't mind. I have problems with my neck, mid back, and lower back. Daily pain in all three. I have been on a exclusive water diet for two months now. I eat only dinner and I have salad some chicken or fish, or grass feed beef on occasion. My tinnitus has dropped very, very low and so had my pain. My question is can I still get rid of the tinnitus permanentily with these back issues? I tried a dry fast for one day and it even lowered my tinnitus but went up a notch after going back to water and one meal per day.
    Your responce would be appreciated!
    Ty

Thank-you too I was looking at another site TED and a doctor was saying pretty much the same thing. I suffer from it still once in a while I've had it almost 22 years. At first I was in absolute hell and in my ears came a ringing school bell that wouldn't go off. I swear I thought my head would shake of coarse it wasn't. I also thought I would die from it especially since in 1985 almost literally know one really knew much about It except it was your ears.

Hi Julian! I've had tinnitus for about 2 years now, and after a very stressfull period with exams and lots of partying my tinnitus got worse and is now accompanied by very bad hyperacusis.
It probably was the noise exposure that made it worse, but it is so hard to know for sure because i have very bad anxiety as well, so in other words i am in fight or flight mode almost constantly.
So my question is, do you think my hyperacusis will get better if i get out of F&F even though it could have been induced by noise exposure?
And thanks for all your videos. I don't know what i would do without them.

We seem to share similar onset causes. I also got severe hyperacusis the very same day I suddenly woke up with loud T. All in a very stressful time in my life with alot of stuff accumulating. I've always lingered on the fact that both conditions arrived at the very same time whilst all ENT's explained it as hearing loss. Well, thats never been proven. As a matter of fact my hearing tests are normal for my age. The ENT's just shrug their shoulders and point to statistics and what they have read about it. Honestly, the traditional medical environment don't know anything about T. This has become very apparent trough the years I've had this. It would be interesting to share experiences with you in a positive manner. I've had it now since the summer of 2013. Btw, I also appreciate Julian Cowans video's greatly. He's the voice of reason.

Hi Julian. I have mild tinnitus but I am mainly worried about my long term high-level anxiety. From your experience do you think I can heal my anxiety disorder using these body based practices? Because the doctor prescribed me to take citalopram, which apparently causes 1% of people to get tinnitus!!!! So I am too scared to take medication because of this. I already have been aware of these practises for a long time but have not dedicated myself to them. Thank you

    • @JulianCowanHill

Most of these approaches are good for general anxiety - so the answer is yes. Tinnitus appears on most medications by the way. Often medication can be very helpful for settling people with tinnitus.

I have the same thing after having an inner ear infection/virus that lasted for several weeks. The hissing is always there and I could live with that no problem but then I get a high pitched fluctuating noise that comes and goes based on stress, diet and other factors. It's in the frequency of like 13-14 Khz and this is the noise that drives me crazy throughout the day when I have it. It noise also goes up in volume based on my surroundings so even when I'm in a loud environment, it always overpowers the ambient noise and I could hear it.

what I do not understand , a french study only 1 in 123 T sufferers had no hearing loss.......so how does that relate to Adrenalin and CNS issues?

    • @JulianCowanHill
      @JulianCowanHill  7 років тому +7

T appears most commonly after loud noise exposure and T often fills the gap in with hearing loss like a phantom limb experience. However the residual buzz is just nervous system activation which is not based on any physical noise at all. Activation is the key word here. Stress causes activation and a fearful response to the buzz within the auditory system causes the mind to lock into the sound and to keep it there in your awareness- temporarily. Anyone can hear tinnitus in quiet room if they strain their ears to listen out for it (not recommended!) but with a calm and happy nervous system this noise should be filtered out and forgotten again. With hearing loss or with perfect hearing you can still let go of tinnitus.

First off, you should go to your primary care doctor he will probably get you some anti-anxiety meds that will help you with such feelings and are also proven effective in reducing the loudness of tinnitus ( xanax & co ). Then i would suggest www.tinnitustalk.com/ which is the biggest forum of tinnitus sufferers in the world, here you will find millions of people from all over the world offering you insight and tips on how to deal with such a condition.
Its really frustrating at first because you will quickly realize that most health professional actually don't know shit about it and everything is pretty much a wip.
A few tips : 1/ Go to a good osteopath and explain your problem he'll probably unlock a few of your badly placed muscles / cervicals and advise you with some jaw exercises, even if it sounds unrelated to how you first got your T i have found it to be extremely effective 2/ Don't panic, stop the stress, stress only makes it worst, tinnitus is a neurological issueand is highly linked to stress, if you need medication at first then take it. don't be ashamed i took xanax and it worked wonders for my t 3/ Sleep, lack of sleep makes it worst 4/ Find your tinnitus tone ( can be done with any frequency generator on the web ) and try to play around with it, there's various method such as ACRN, notched white noise... At least one of those will help you.
Finally it may go one day without notice or stay with you until you die, no one knows so the sooner you take back control the better.

Hanefi VDB : Listen to Julian. Watch his videos. If you say that Julian says, settle down, practice sophrology/meditation, or going to a good acupuncture specialist, yes it will go away. Try to not focus on it, and when it's there, you have to let it go, I know it's not easy, but the less you pay attention to it, the less you will heard it. It's gonna be better bro, don't worry. If you don't worry, it will back off faster. You will be ok.

@@emmamarie1224 that's great news mine is really loud but understandable as it's only been 3 weeks since I've got it. I dunno but my nose is blocked up with mucus and I can feel it in my throat. It's really bad because it's stopping me from hearing properly. Do you think it's another reason why I've got this ringing in my ears.

Farhaan Faghiri yes that is a big possibility why you have the ringing. I’d say wait till your nose is cleared and see how the ringing is and go from there.
