- In this video i show you to grind the inside edge of a "Swiss Army Knife"- Can Opener to a useful hook knife. Please keep in mind, that as soon you change something on the knife body of your Victorinox Swiss Army Knife, you will lose the warranty!!

So, almost every Tool is modified now.
Victorinox, it is time for an Immler-Edition!
Haa ha haa, i agree!
@@FelixImmler
Maybe, they name it the 'Felix'.
Not the worst name, i think.
@Karl O - I sent emails to Victorinox saying the same thing . Have sent comments to the Victorinox you tube channel as well . Make your voice heard and all the best .
I buy one... kaufe sofort so ein Messer... 👍👍👍👍👍👍🤗🇨🇭
@@QuantumMechanic_88
I also mailed them. No success.
They wrote me, that it is not easy to realize and too expensive for a small series. I think they will sell a lot of them, if the price is okay.
🤫Maybe a Chinese company steal the ideas at first. 🤭
Love this ! It works great & doesn't have any negative effects on the functionality of the can opener. This absolutely should be a factory upgrade! Way to go Felix !!
Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback. so far I have not found any disadvantages...
It may not affect its function for opening cans but it does eliminate its other function as a wrench. I'm not a fan of this mod. I'd rather be able to use it on oxygen or a garden hose valve in an emergency than have that hook blade. If you want to open packages use the knives, just be careful.
@@Thee-_-Outlier Interesting. Please expand more on your view
I'm sure anyone that is friends with Felix is 80% happier than the rest of the world
Thanks a lot!
That’s one of the best modifications ever 🤩
Thank you very much!
Ingenious! Don't know why Victorinox hasn't thought of this themselves. Going to break my tools out here in just a minute. Good show.
Yes, it would make sense for them to add an additional feature to the can opener since can openers are not as useful as they used to be (most cans have pull-tab tops nowadays). I use the can opener as an orange peeler more than for opening cans.
Checking in a year later. Did you do this modification, and was it easy with the described Dremel tools?
For anyone who doesn't have a dremel at hand, you can do this with circular/oval diamond files! Just tried it and it works exactly the same! Cuts rope, cordage and boxes!
Thanks for your super interesting hint!
@@FelixImmler THANK YOU SIR FOR SHARING YOUR WISDOM, AND FOR INSPIRING US ALL! PROST!
Very nice modification! And the BEST is: "It costs not the world" :D
Another great video, Felix, but for the next time you find yourself needing to use a diamond bur against steel like that, I have two suggestions that will make your work easier: 1) add a tiny amount (literally, a drop) of dish soap to the water, or even just smear a little on your fingertip and stir in into the water before you begin. By doing so, you’ll eliminate the surface tension of the water - essentially making it ‘wetter’, and 2) if you’ll uses a thrusting/plunging/pumping action with the side of the diamond bur against the steel workpiece, the grinding will go faster and the tool will last much longer. Oh, also, (#3) once you’ve got a small divot ground into the steel as a placeholder, try using slightly more pressure at a slower speed. It seems counterintuitive, but a slower moving tool often gouges out more material than a faster one (and this is especially true when drilling)!
I just did this on one of my SAKs and it works great! A must do mod!
Thank you so much!
Felix, another great video! I'd love to see you opening a can after this modification so you can show that this function hasn't been compromised. Thank you for another great video.
Stimmt gar ned
Hallo Felix,
definitiv eine schöne Idee.
Danke fürs Zeigen.
Liebe Grüße und ein schönes Wochenende
Joe
Danke Joe!
Im more of a "camp knife" kind of guy who likes large knives and hatchets. Then I realised that I carry about 5 things that could all be replaced by one Swiss Army Knife. Then I stumble across this channel where some dude tells me how to modify the Swiss Army Knife so it can do even more. Ever get that feeling that things are working out just fine.....? (subbed)
I thought of this modification recently, but you had already done it! this is probably the single most useful modification one could make to a SAK, and I’d imagine most everyday users would end up using his more than the knife blade itself… I’m surprised Victorinox hasn’t stolen this idea already!
Thanks a lot for this comoliment!
I'm so happy I've found this channel! I've leaned so many skills, techniques and modifications on this beloved tool. By seing what you've done, you've help me get so much more service from my swiss army knife. Thank you for all your content!
Thanks a lot for this wonderful feedback!
I work at REI. The other day a representative from Victorinox knives came in. I told her about you and your incredible bush craft skills with just a Swiss Army knife. She seemed rather impressed.
This should be standard on all SAK, another great share mate, cheers 🤙🏽👍🏽
Thanks 👍
Hello Felix. I told you this was a good modification. Glad you like it. I use this all the time, more than the main blade. All the best.
was it you who wrote to me on the last video?
@@FelixImmler Yes i suggested this a few videos ago.
@@rhino5419 Excellent suggestion!
@@archivist17 Thanks, and also it does not frighten any body when used.Which is important here.
Felix, I love the positive energy you put in your videos, very communicative. And this video was nicely shot and edited :) Thanks for your great work !
Thank you very much. Your feedback makes me happy!
Everything you do is amazing! Thank you for everything you do!
You are so welcome!
Felix this is a fantastic idea - i never would have thought if it - great use of unused surface and not effecting the original use - bravo !
Thank you!!! I used my dremel and did this 2 days ago...wow! Its fantastic and just what I wanted for Cadet - a second blade for opening boxes! Perfect!
Great to hear!
Your channel is amazing! I have used a SAK for over ten years and I'm still learning new things 😊
Thank you for your videos!
From England
Hello David. I am so happy to hear that!
You know. I'm still fan of the old Wenger ones, I really hate the can opener from the victorinox. Wengers have a "hook" can opener, you pull it, it's way more comforable than the push can opener, safer and can do many of the things the hook one you modified here. Love your channel, subscribed!
Looks like Victorinox watched your video and re-designed the can-opener ;-)
I don't think they do that...
@@FelixImmler yeah, the new box-opener seems to lose all the advantages of the can-opener-hook
That's a great tip. That can opener blade was pretty much useless and now it will be a functional blade. Thank you. Brilliant.
I did this mod with the can opener on one of my Victorinox Multitools about 20 years ago. It’s very handy - as long as I have the modified one with me!
Thank you for sharing this mod
Thanks a lot for your great feedback!
Encore une fois super astuce. 👍
Merci Mr Immler 🙂
Merci beaucoup!
That's a neat modification! Thanks for the lesson, Felix!
Thanks for watching David!
This is a seriously useful mod! It gives my SAK the clamshell package opening blade I always wished it had. Thank you!
The video looks great buddy! We don't watch for the video quality, it's your happy face we love 🙂
Thank you so much 😀
UA-cam stopped sending me your classes. You're back! Only a few weeks ago I bought two Fieldmaster SAK's for two kits I am putting together. Keep us enlightened, O Wise One!
Welcome back David!
@@FelixImmler thank you. I should make a summer weight anorak out of a large beach towel and a mosquito net hood, now that it is getting warmer in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia! Lol! One day I should just visit Switzerland. It was 50 years ago when I both got my own Swiss Army Knife while in Germany. It's good to be back online. 😊
That really is ingenious and practical. This should be an option that Victorinox does on their knives. Bravo!!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks Felix, I have 15 or so SAKs and those I can modify like yours I now have , what a great useful function to have . Well done on the channel .
Yet another excellent modification and an excellent video, Well done Felix!!!
Looks like a cool weekend project. This is probably the most useful mod I've come across. Thanks for the tip!
This will be also a great orange peeler! Danke, Herr Immler!
Sehr gerne.... LG Felix
Hello Felix !!!
You keep showing me things for my SAK's that I didn't know I needed.
Always a surprise. Keep those ideas coming & thank-you.
Thanks a lot for watching!
Felix Immler is one of the best UA-cam channels. Look forward to each new video.
Very nice little modification, this function is why I like the citrus peeler on my minichamp and executive.
That was a genius idea, Mr. Immler. As always, another great video! Very well executed mod and the editing was just fine buddy. Thanx again 👍👍✌️
Thanks a lot Don!
Thanks Felix. I am enjoying your book Whittling in the wild.
I ground mine on the opposite side (inside) of the blade. Works great. Thank you Felix!
Mit diesem Büchse Öffner
kann man auch wunderbar Orangen einschneiden .
Eine Super Idee mit dem
optimierten Büchsen Öffner !
Danke für den Hinweis!
Thanks for the video Felix, very useful
Glad it was helpful!
That edge looks factory made! ,🤯
Thank you!
Excellent!!! Super good idea. It gives us another whole tool. I can’t wait to do it!
Felix you have to be the #1 SAK salesman in the world. I love your videos. Keep them coming. Awesome job.
Wow, thanks a lot! Greetings from Switzerland
If you do this modification you can no longer use the can opener as an oxygen wrench. That’s what the 90 degree flat part is for. Also works if your garden hose valve (metallic valve yokes only) breaks, you can unscrew the valve handle and use the can opener as a handle. I leave my front yard valve handle off so transients don’t get water and leave the valve leaking.
Good point! However, I believe using a hook blade for opening packages seems much more likely on day to day basis.
I have a seperate keychain tool with a O2 wrench….but I’ve yet to come across an O2 cylinder without a wrench
I love Felix.
He’s so cool!!!
Thank you so much!
Dankeschön für den tollen Tipp !
Mr Immler, that's a wonderful trick!!! Can opener wasn't my favorite tool. That has change seeing your video and I gonna be happier with every SAK I could have.
One simple word.....
BRILLIANT!!😀👍
yep I'm doing this one this weekend for sure ... on both of my SAKs! thanks felix
This is a great modification! Very simple and useful!!
Glad you like it! Thanks a lot for your comment!
Excellent idea. I am doing it immediatly on all my victorinox
Felix! You are totally awesome.
Thank you very much Sean!
Du bist der Beste. Ich bewundere dich !
Vielen Dank!
This is how it should come!!!
I am totally going to try this, thanks!
Great idea... This will be my one day project for tomorrow 😁
Super idea!
OMG ... This is AWESOME .. THANK YOU ... I have got to try this on at least one of mine ! ! ! !
The video quality doesn't matter so much when the substance of the video is so good. I'm gonna do this mod eventually! I don't have the equipment yet, but after the holidays. Thanks!
Thanks a lot and good luck!
Very good Felix, too much creative!
Thanks for the video!
Brilliant idea and superb tutorial. Thank you Felix : ) Definitely doing this one !
This is a very nice modification. It does not negate the function of the tool's original capacity, but, gives it a multi-function capability. Good one Felix.
Thank for your positive feedback!
Méga danke Felix und bleib gesund!!!!!
Danke Noel!
Sehr gerne Marco!
Excellent mod and photography! Bare bones method with a chain saw file and sandpaper on a dowel.
Always fun when you post.👍
Good idea! Thanks for your compliment!
Oh I love this addition!! Extremely useful and quick to establish a very useful sharp hook!! Hey you and Victorinox SAKs looks great on any camera 📷!! Great idea Felix
It was a very good video, my friend. Your filming and editing skills are just fine! I also really like the modification, quite useful. The water trick to keep it cool was also a good tip. Thanks again. Have a great week and be well!

Hello Felix! Good see You! Good jobs!! Thanks!!!
BRILLIANT - Thank You
This trick looks to me a very useful one. Thanks man.
Great job Felix. I love that mod. Many uses for that little hook blade. You did a great job with the filming and editing brother.
Hello Chief. Thank you very much!
Love it! What a great idea! Time to pick up a diamond coated grinding bit.
Go for it! :-D
@@FelixImmler Hey Felix, I just modified my Pioneer X, and it turned out fantastic! Thanks for the tip!
A fantastic mod if you ever need to open plastic bubble packaging, yes you could use the knife blade but there is a risk of going too deep, with this mod you run around the perimeter. job jobbed. Have doen this to my outrider and now doing this to my ranger . Thanks Felix Immler. Keep the vids coming.
This modification is good that should be mandatory from factory. Congratulations!
I was thinking... You know what, the can opener of my Vic can easily accomodate a sharp edge on the inside for opening packages and those tedious clamshell plastic retail packages, and was undecided if giving to it a hook shape or a straight edge, maybe with a negative angle to... Hook into stuff. I figured... Let's see if anything similar on the internet, and... Boom, Felix already did this! And... So beautifully! Is there ANY mods that you still did not think about?? 😃 Great video as always, thanks!!!
Hallo Thomas! Danke für das tolle Feedback!
Sehr gut, Felix, sehr gut.
Dankeschön!
I made it, thank you Félix! On more tool in my EDC tool box
Felix, very neat modification there. I can see it being extremely useful and you can still use the can opener as well.
Exactly..thank you!
Thanks for the tips master of SAK.
Hi Felix!
I love your videos!
Greetings from a Swiss man in America!

Danke.
Another great video!
Thanks a lot my friend!
Herzlichen Dank Reine!
good, a very good idea. brilliant!
Good one! I'm sure Victorinox will do this next. They should credit you with this mod.
You did a GREAT JOB!!!!!
Haa ha haa, thanks a lot Sara!
Great idea!
Thinking out of the box produces great ideas.
Thanks a lot!
