Unlike your typical youtuber, This guy actually knows what hes talking about. I dont mind if hes dry as toast, Education trumps entertainment when it comes to learning. GOOD LESSON, been playing 30 yrs, but needed a referesher on one point, got it. Waded through at least 10 chuds b4 I found this guy.
"Here's what it would sound like if i played outside of that G major scale".... proceeds to sound like my playing.
Probably the best music theory explanation on UA-cam. Invaluable job! Deserves much more views.
Thanks so much! -Chad
HDima by far the best
Thank you for taking your time to make this
This really opened my eyes. I've been teaching myself guitar for two years now and have had a lot of trouble trying build melodies and understand scales. This video has cleared up so much. Thank you, sincerely thank you.
Its really nice but I would like to ask, how do you determine keys on a guitar.
WOW! I have always struggled with music theory. For years I've been afraid to learn it, but you made it sound so simple. Thank you so much!
Mind blown when I realized that the C scale is the Dó Re Mi Fá Sol Lá Sí Do we sing in school in Portugal.
C major scale
Not just the C major scale right? I'm not sure but ig you could also sing like the D major scale, as long as you start on the D
@@idk-ro9eb Yep , You can sing Do re mi Fa Sol la Si on any key , it's just " how it should sound " on every scale
For us in Hungary it was "dó ré mi fá szó lá ti dó" but yeah that's the c major scale
In Indian School Of Music, It's "sa re ga ma pa da ni sa"
I like how Music is same and connects us wherever you go😁
thank you for making this video lesson so easily to understand, I've spent so much time with my music teacher on this and your lesson is so much better for understanding scales.. thank you
This video just clearly answered the question I've been struggling to find an answer for! Thank you so much for this!

Ive been learning piano for a few months and its so cool to see the crossover of chords from one instrument to another. So sick!
I'm really glad that I found your channel. I really liked how you discuss the matter.

Glad to hear that. I really try to anticipate questions someone might have and not assume anything. Thanks! -Chad

Hey there, you mentioned a "free" workbook. I don't see it on your site. Great video by the way :-)
thank
How to learn those scales?
THANKS!
You're welcome! -Chad
Is tonic the same as root note?
Good vid👍
question! I saw that you played some distance apart on the fretboard the melody and solo for it. Not in the same area where you had the chords. Uh, yes the question is why so? and how this is determined ? (I'm a very beginner)
it sounds a bit high.. you could still play near the nut..it'll still sound the same but will be a heavy melody
Tonic tonic tonic... where’s the gin?
Amy Stanley 😂🤣
It's a date then!
Lmao
Piano man
Fun fact: tonic water glows in a black light. So does a mustard stain that you thought washed out. Now go play with your guitar! 😁
Please let me download eguide and workbook

thank you
I have a question. If I’m playing in the key of GM and I want to play a solo, licks or a melody is all I have to do is forcuse on the notes on the GM scale? Please help me I’m confuse.
Yes but not all of the notes sound strong over every chord. That's where understanding arpeggios and landing tones is really important. But for starting out you can just use the notes of the Gm scale and use your ears. All the notes are useable it's just that some sound stronger than others depending on the chord you're playing over. Thanks! -Chad
The work book and E guide are different correct? I downloaded the guide but was interested in the workbook. Sign up on site to get it?
Our free music theory eGuide is connected to our Music Theory For Guitar series. The eGuide and Workbook for this course comes with the purchase of the full course on our site. Thanks! -Chad

13:30 when I play...😅
i went to the part with no context... Lmao
Nice tone
Thanks! -Chad
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!!
One question... If I'm trying to creat something... Should I choose the scale first and then the chords?, or Should I choose the chords and then the scale? I saw you used G-D-Em chords and all those chords have notes in G maj scale... So I don't know which one is most important I'm a little bit confused...
Greetings from Chile!
I'm watching the next video and it seems the answer is there! The scale will tell me which notes I can pick to my chords!
You can do it either way but it's usually a little harder to start with the scale. So if you start with a chord progression like G-D-Em you can play notes from the G Major scale over each chord and see what sounds good to you. You can also play G Maj pentatonic scale over the G, D Maj pentatonic over the D, and Em pentatonic over the Em. Doing that will give you really strong sounding notes over each chord. Thanks! -Chad
@@Moveforwardguitar thanks again!! ;)
What is C Major (Ionian) Scale A form?
1-1-0.5-1-1-1-0.5
I love the videos and information being presented. Is it just me or does this gentleman sound a lot like Peewee Herman?
Who cares, He is taking the time to teach you guitar.I wish people would quit judging.
@ Move Forward Guitar Im a beginner I am 16yr old do you recommend to Learn these basic music theory. I can already play open/basic chords, the F barre chord and some power chords and basic finger style. I already playing acoustic guitar for about 5 months. Any recommendations or tips as a beginner? Thanks🇵🇭
Yes I recommend learning basic music theory. It can help a lot. I'd also recommend continuing to work on other stuff at the same time and not just focusing on theory. Work on stuff like your scale patterns etc...Thanks! -Chad
@@Moveforwardguitar Move Forward Guitar But on other of your video, you said that learn focusing on many things is bad which results to not mastering any of them?
Learning music theory along with working on some other stuff shouldn't be too much. If it feels like too much then cut back. Thanks! -Chad
what about other scales?
so you're asking him to make 11 more videos on the same subject??
or are you asking him the other types of scales.. if so then the internet is your best friend
What's the difference with the paid course ?
The paid version comes with the premium eGuide and workbook. Thanks! Chad

Lol I'm playing this threw my gutair amp
Through..... not threw, just say’n...... if you attended public schools, I understand 🤪
sorry but i don't understand, why did you take B to C as a half step but not E to F as another half step too, and instead counted F# to G as the next half step !? and the other question is i still cant tell what are the limits for keeping inside a certain Scale , a G for example.
Hey Steve,
The major scale is always Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half.
I've been really learning this stuff myself the past few months.
It helps me to think of the piano keyboard (and I don't play piano, but we have all seen the keyboard). In the C major scale, B and C are "smashed together" - just 1/2 step. (this works starting on the C on the piano).
As soon as you start on a different piano key, you start getting sharps and flats, etc. You stick with Whole, Whole, Half, Whole, Whole, Whole, Half. But now you have sharps and flats...
alles klar , thank you
I think i need some subtitle..that would be nice
Sa re ga ma pa da ni sa
You say there are 12 notes but i count 17. A, (A#, Bb), B, C, (C#, Db), D (D#, Eb), E, F, (F#, Gb), G (G#, Ab). Always found that confusing.
What if those flats and sharps are counted at 1??😂😂😂😂 just a thought
@@rehemachiona But what if these flats and sharps are counted at 2??
😂😂😂😂 Just another thought
@quotemenot7520 Well, it's been nine months since you asked, so what did you find out??😂😂😂😂😂
@@quotemenot7520 I'm surprised, alright😂😂😂😂😂 so you'll continue with a gap in your music knowledge?
Let me find out😂😂😂😂 let's bridge the gap

Why am I the only one lost!
Did you start at the beginning of this course or just jump in to this lesson which is lesson 8?
Corey Taylor got skinny and now is teaching guitar lessons
What's the fish scale ,sometimes I like thinking about kitchen scales or even digital scales ,you forgot all about them .really pointless if u don't cover flat fish scales.
Nope, don’t get it at all...
