  • Some super cool Swiss F5 footage will be shown as we quickly show you the jet on the table. Then TD and I get busy drawing contrasts between the 1st Gen SOG Aegis vs the newer Aegis AT XR. The latter is a different knife but may win you over with its speed, new looks, great blade finish on D2 steel, and tougher build.

Love it. 2w Tacticaldoodle The more time I spend with the new sog lineup the more I like them. Likeability has gone up a bit since filming this one. w Load reply Boone Mill Farm Love TD. Love F-5s. First time I’ve heard them fire guns, cannons. Sweet. Been on many Air to ground ranges. A4s, A7s A10s, F4s , and F15s. Late 70s it was. Watched an A10 shoot and then pound the ground, pilot floated his shute thru the fireball. Capt. out of Myrtle Beach AFB. I went and got him. I was scared to death. He was burning brighter, ampt up like a stick of dynamite. Palmetto gunnery range, 30 miles south of Shaw AFB 1978/9 ish. This brought it back. Don’t know why. The knife.... The knife ~ nah. Merry Christmas to your family Nutn. Merry Christmas to you all. 2w TacticalBunnyCA Lol! My SOG Aegis is in my BOK as well! “Because it’s so lightl” and I’d had it for so long I just got board so I found an omnipresent place for it. I did break just a tiny bit of the tip, at least once maybe twice and so it’s about 1/32 to 1/64 shorter than original but with a belt sander on the sledge and work with my consistent angle sharpener (KME made in USA, it’s pretty okay to very good specifically for recurve knives) you can’t tell by looking at it. It’s still and amazing and extremely sharp pocket surgeon! 1 2w James R When i got pulled over by the cops and I m out of the car and he says “do you have anything sharp in you pocket that will poke me” all I hear is “GEAR CHECK” I m yeah bro check this and this and this o and my light check this lmao 2w The Nutnfancy Project Nice one, I beat you'd beat HIS gear check 2w Michael B warner The SOG Aegis is another excellent EDC option. I've had one in my rotation for a couple year's now and still love it. 2w Charles New That Aegis mini has been one of my long term go to blades, really like that one. 2w The Nutnfancy Project I do too, carrying the Gen 1 Mini Aegis for the last week 2w Bretti Andrettski I bought a few S.O.G.'s over the last 2 years and I don't seem to gravitate to them for my EDC. I think it's because I like to flip or wave my knives and I wish they would just drop the whole safety thing. 2w The Nutnfancy Project Yeah I hate those safeties, super glue them closed 2w Beck Seattle Sea Hawks colors 2w The Nutnfancy Project Bleck 2 2w Doug Irelan All of my SOG’s have been sharp out of the box. Some others not so much. Your tweet about the Cold Steel Luzon on sale reminded me how much I liked them and the price. I bought the medium as Christmas gifts for my son and two son in laws. They opened them on Christmas Eve and liked them. Then I explained there is a large version, pulled it out and deployed it. Their reaction was priceless. 2w The Nutnfancy Project Oh yeah, Large Luzon for the win...great blades those are! 2w Load reply John K Stankiewicz Merry Christmas Nutn! 2w The Nutnfancy Project You too, thanks 2w Lee Graves Awesome review thanks guys! the painting on the jet was awesome! 2w The Nutnfancy Project THanks for being here and we love them jets 2w HairyPost Merry Christmas Guys! This is so crazy to me- I finally forked over the money for a Digi Aegis last summer... and now the AT XR comes out. Not to mention, I was ten years late to the game and in those years, the Aegis went from about $60 pre-Nutn raving review, to about $105 with corona prices.

I bought this knife mostly for second cool about 3 months ago. I like its assisted, I like the colours and I think it looks cool and stand out from most my other black knives.
I watched the first Aegis video you posted and compared it to the current one. All the changes seem kind of worse.. its heaver with the liner, the jimping and no traction on the handle ..and again the weight. I thought you were going to make me feel like an idiot for buying the new one... but I'm glad to hear you like it ( at least for second cool) .
Love the knife show!! I always loved knives but I was the only person I knew that had an EDC. It was so refreshing to find your channel. I love your old trench run and gun videos in the desert. Thank you for your advice on guns, knifes and life.
I'm canadian, so my inner gun nerd is lived through you, but we can still carry SOME knives ( no automatics)

People call Americans crazy for being "gun freaks" but i would hate to live anywhere that dictated to you exactly what kind of knife you are allowed for personal use... It's the slippery slope that only a well armed constituency is capable of holding back! Anyways i just wanted to say i think you are missing out on automatics! they're not ALL that (i personally love some assisted opening kershaws and find them to be quite comparable) but are still nice to have around!

Everyone is free to ink themselves up as they please. That being said, often your first indication that someone has a mental complex (usually low self esteem or immaturity) is a need to distract you from their natural body by marking it up. Never thought a beautiful person got more beautiful with tattoos; though plenty of people wrecked their looks with them.

I’m not happy with the Aegis redesign for mainly one reason: the proportions are off. The blade looks way too short for the handle, as the goofy lanyard loop takes up too much space. Looks as though it could occlude your grip as well. Change that and it looks as though the blade could have been 1/4” - 3/8”” longer.

    • @xenonram

I'm one of those that doesn't like knives with springs. My benchmade 585 and boker kalashnikov don't get grabbed as much when I know I want a blade I'm going to use. I really only carry the boker from time to time for the novelty because I got the "warhawk" one. It's just a personal preference for manual knives, I don't think there's anything wrong with assisted or autos.

My only gripe with most assisted open blades is that it's nearly impossible to safely close them one-handed. (Zac from BladeHQ has the same gripe.) It seems that CRKT has found a way to remedy that with their latest version of assisted knives.

Great job as always. I've always liked Sog knives even with the blade play they used to have. His designs connect with me and their products since they designed the Flashbacks, the Aegis FLK and finally the Pillar shows that they understood that they had to raise their quality to continue competing. I don't understand why they only modified more radically the design of the Flash since they started to change things although in truth I like the new Flash more than the old one and I totally agree that they are overpriced, the safety was not necessary on any of them . The SOG ASSISTED TECH (S.A.T.) doesn't bother me. Between all the new Trident is the one I like the most. It is interesting that they decided to "degrade" (joking) the Aegis from Tactical to Outdoor knife and shortened the blade. The Aegis was always one of my favorites with 3. 5 inches of blade and 3.1 ounces (Heavier now......BUMMER!!) so I didn't like that they decided to change its, to me, perfect design by shrinking its blade although it was only a little and change its perfect pocket clip and adding that goofy lanyard hole. If they lengthened the handle (according to SOG website) I would have preferred that they had lengthened the blade. I'm happy they switched to D2 and the "new" XR lock is great. I hope all your beautiful family is well and healthy.

Cool vid. I like that SOG upped the steel a bit. Would have preferred S30V...and not the yellow...and not plastic thumbstuds. And G10 instead of FRN handles. Uh...I guess that I'm not that excited by this. I like the blade shape. I like the handle shape. I like the pocket clip. So...overall..it's a swing...and we got to second base, but no runs batted in...and definitely not a home run. Can we do baseball in 2021? Or are we stuck with lockdown baseball? Do sports matter anymore or did the "take a knee" thing finally destroy the incredibly badly run world of pro sports?

I feel like if you make a proper detent for a knife it should deploy as fast or close to what an assisted knife can do. Also assisted knives are not as easy to close one handed as a manual knife.

Got this blade just recently... Has a good degree of quality to it, but jeez, how hard was it to put an actual deeper cut out for the thumb stud to make it easier to open? As is it is just SO DAMN STIFF... I don't want to rip my thumb bloody just by flicking it open and closing it.... And don't get me started on the clip... This coming from a well loved company and (supposedly) a competent knife creator that has ease of use LITERALLY in the name! if you can't do the peer group research to actually make this knife comfortable to use and improve basic ergonomics (that i found solutions to literally within minutes of opening and playing with it) then i don't understand how this is one of the products that they released to "reinvent " the brand...
