@@Daddiboiz Every project has different needs to be met and different obstacles to overcome to not only make it to our eyes but be a critical and commercial success. That much of this stuff gets made at all is a small miracle in and of itself. In short: Art is hard. :)
This is probably the closest adaptation to the Jack reacher novels and it’s such a good show. Alan Ritchson totally nailed it and portrayed him as close to the books as it gets with his physicality and deadpan humour. Reacher is basically a wandering hobo who doesn’t have anything much on him he doesnt usually have a plan in mind he just travels around and stumbles and gets caught up into all these conflicts.

To give you the background on Reacher. This series is based on 27ish books starring Reacher. This season is the first book in the series. Season 2 they jump to around book 10. Reacher was born overseas on military bases. and except for his 4 year stint in West Point, The U.S. Army Acedemy, he really hasn't been in America. So when he got out )right before this series starts, he decided to travel the country, seeing what he sees. He hitchhikes, or takes the very first bus leaving the station, where ever it is going. Reacher is 6 foot 5, 250 pounds and has hands the size of thanksgiving turkeys. He was the founder and leader of the fictional 110th Military Police Special Investigators.
Love this show. The Tom Cruise Reacher movies are okay, but this is the real deal. Tom Cruise is way too short to play Jack Reacher. This guy is almost perfect. He just looks a little too pleasant for someone with Reacher's past experiences, but he's a good actor and I like his portrayal of the character. This entire season is a pretty faithful adaptation of the first Reacher novel, which is a good read. I'd read it before the show came out.
but the tom cruise movies are much closer to the books....
@@Metzwerg74 Have you read the book that this show is based on? (Killing Floor, the very first Jack Reacher novel.) It's pretty much impossible to be closer to a book than this show is. Certainly not with a movie, the time constraints wouldn't allow it. And I'm not saying that the Tom Cruise movies aren't good adaptations of the material, considering the constraints they do a pretty good job. Though Tom Cruise not being a large, physically intimidating man is a pretty significant change in the character that makes a difference in the feel of some scenes that are otherwise pretty accurate portrayals of what's in the books.
Moving forward they may take more liberties with the material. I've read that the next season, for instance, will take elements from more than one book and combine them to get a new story. But the first season follows the book it's based on almost to a fault.
@@hkpew"on almost to a fault". Well, not really. It's a good adaption but they took many liberties and even made up characters and changed a lot of the story itself. E.g. the "real" Boss of the organisation. They also changed the behaviour of some characters (like Roscoe for example).
But the "feel" of the series is close to the book when it comes to Reacher himself. Like you said - the physical appearance is a very important thing in the books.
@@hkpew people need to stop complaining about the size difference. men the size of book and show reacher don't do well in the military, when you have that much mass you don't have the stamina to do military training. you burn through energy TOO FAST. also reacher is inhuman in that in the books he can eat like a cow and NEVER GAIN WEIGHT and the character literally never exorcisees. also movie reacher uses legit effective martial arts. not to mention book and show have him walk up to people 2 feet shorter than him and he uses his "intimidation factor" and they somehow are not actually intimidated.
Didnt Tom Cruise literally pick this guy yo play reacher?

This show is so much fun, and the Prison shower fight is as good as it gets. But the highlight is Reacher interacting with Roscoe and Finley.
try the bus fight in "Nobody" beats it by far....
Hard to believe the books are better. Of course a TV series can't measure up... or down like a book can.
Having said that this is a great TV series. I couldn't believe how good it was.

A great series. This is based on a series of books of Lee Child about Jack Reacher. You should also see the Tom Cruise movie Jack Reacher who is also on the same hero.

This is a great show. My only real complaint is the goons constantly eager to pick a fight with a dude who literally looks like a fucking guerilla.

1:07 - Didn't say a word. Intimidated this guy silly!
1:19 - You cut it, but Reacher looks around the diner, sees the older couple, sees the kids, and realizes that the cops aren't screaming in for any of them. Hence, he drops the money and places his hands on the table where they can be seen clearly.
1:42 - Alan Ritchson is 6' 2", but they go with the figure from the book and say he's 6' 5".
3:36 - But this is part of his character. He's not just big and strangely intelligent, (big usually means dumb, too), but he's also meticulous.
5:50 - I TOLD YOU!🙂
9:47 - One of the details that they used from the book to brutal efficiency is that Reacher rarely uses his fists. If you go back and watch it again, you'll notice he uses his elbows a lot, or sometimes strikes with the heel of his palm. He's hitting them with parts of his body that are less breakable than fingers.😉
11:01 - I found your comment here funny. Like, "Nah. He's the title character, but he's not going to be involved in working on the case."😁
14:08 - Just so you know, Reacher is a SERIOUS blues aficionado.
14:35 - Following your comments, I feel like they might have screwed the timeline. I get the feeling Joe DID want Reacher around, but Reacher said his brother mentioned it "a while back." That sounds very nonspecific and distant. Reacher implies Joe mentioned Blake for a reason, but... ummm... didn't urge Reacher to go to Margrave sooner? It bugs me.
16:11 - Willa Fitzgerald (Roscoe) is cute, and made all the more adorable by being placed next to the giant that is Alan Ritchson. (She's only 5' 5".)

John Reacher in the books is 6'5 250lbs
Alan Ritchson is only 6'2 and put on 30lbs for the role..claiming he now weights 235lbs. He said in a ny post article that He's a runner and doesn't normally lift weights..he keeps his weight at 205lbs so he can land normal tv dad sorta roles
To give you a point of reference, I'm 5'11 213lbs..
I'm basically his size. I wouldn't consider myself..."huge".. So I guessing the show cast shorter actors or Alan is standing on something to appear " bigger"..

The fighting style is called "KRAVE MAGA" it is an Israeli style of hand to hand combat, which is exceptionally fast paced and brutal methods of incapacitating your opponent, it combines some of the characteristics of Jujitsu, Street fighting, and Karate, the Karate portion is almost all defensive, the Jujitsu portion utilizes different leverages to use your opponents actions against him, and the Street fighting is the brutal part, often causing permanent damage of one sort or another to your opponent to put a very quick end to an altercation.

Let me tell you this, as a FAN of Reacher's books: At least twice you said what I always think about the books, and the reason I thought casting Tom Cruise in the movies was a good idea: Reacher's world is filled with suicidal people ready to antagonize a giant. Yes, Alan Ritchson is ALMOST perfect to play book Reacher (He's still smaller than "50-inch chest having a six-pack like a cobbled city street, a chest like a suit of NFL armor, biceps like basketballs, and subcutaneous fat like a Kleenex tissue").

Thad MOTHER-FUCKING Castle!!!
Reacher was, for a short time, Aquaman in "Smallville" (although the dude who played Oliver Queen/Green Arrow played Aquaman in the pilot episode of the Aquaman show that didn't get picked up) but what I *really* know him from, what he ought to be remembered by, is Thad Castle from "Blue Mountain State". One of the best comedic performances of all-time.
At its worst, BMS was a pretty generic, frat-bro comedy that was mildly amusing, but at its best it was much better, a really clever and funny and surprising show that merely had that frat-bro comedy as its foundation but transcended that. So... I'm not sure I'd recommend it too strongly, because it's uneven (and I recall it taking a handful of episodes to get legitimately good, and the gross-out comedy leading up to then... I would forgive somebody for not knowing it gets better and bailing after an episode or two) but for Thad's performance alone, it's worth the watch.
The main character is played by the actor who *SHOULD'VE* been cast as Van Wilder in the prequel movie, and there were some solid supporting roles too (Radon Randell is a great character), but Thad is the star. You need a few clips as a "for example"? Yeah, I've got you:
