    Hi! Natalie Thank you, Your videos inspire me. I just started my Bikini Competitor Journey, I'm 5'3 and 110 pounds overweight but I'm starting now anyway losing fat and gaining more muscle. I just want to compete once in an NGA or OCB competition as a Debut and Novice and place first. Being vegan can be a little tuff with it. But I'm focused. Thank you, dear!

    I’m really loving the series! Thank you so much for sharing! I got into bodybuilding a few years ago… And I kind of gave up on it because I wanted to focus on my health and becoming plant-based. The two things didn’t seem to go hand-in-hand, but I’m so happy to see that you are making it happen! And have been for years! And your prep seems to be relatively painless, I remember all of my friends that were competing were always on such an emotional and mental roller coaster. They always seemed miserable, which deterred me from ever considering competing myself.

    • @NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef

      Prep is hard no matter what! Bodybuilding and being at a low body fat is not healthy... There's definitely healthier ways to approach contest prep and that's why I like sharing my journey with you guys. Thank you for all the support!

    Simple but yum! I'm glad you've got coach Paul watching over you, that mans channel is golden.
    Question: I know you said quite a bit about not giving out any specifics - but :x - How much salt have you been consuming, how low does it drop during prep? Isn't it dangerous to have a low salt intake, doesn't it slow down muscle recovery?
    Have a nice day :)

    • @NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef
      @NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef  6 років тому +1

      Thank you so much....We never dropped sodium.... We are leaving everything mostly the same. I'm consuming what I normally have, He actually up my sodium yesterday. My average is around 2,500-3,000mg per day.

    You look amazing and I know you're going to kill it on stage! A friend of mine who was supposed to be competing this weekend as well, until she unfortunately had to drop out, has given me a rundown of what you go through trying to get ready for a show and I really didn't want to bother you. But did you released your cookbook yet? I was just wondering if I missed it. I've been a little out of the loop following your channel. Once again, you look incredible and I'm looking forward to seeing you take the prize!

    Looks like you have found your best coach yet. I'm still hooked on my Brussels and kale..lol i keep frozen edamame so i'll have to try them airfryed. Do you drink your water while eating or like 20 min before? I've always heard it can dilute your digestive enzymes if drinking while eating.

People are always telling me how bad soy is for me and I was wondering if you know any good studies or research articles I could read in order to be able to better defend my diet? Holy moly your ABS. I know that bikini competition physiques are not sustainable, so I give you massive props for sticking through prep. Your hard work truly shows! TBH, sometimes I find myself wanting to look super lean but I recognize that the lifestyle behind it is very restrictive and exhausting. What doesn’t look bland is that protein cake-I want to try it too! Tofu and tempeh are my favorites as well. I adore eating them all the time with Brussels sprouts!

Thank you for sharing your life, advice, and tips with us! Very appreciative. There is no one her to coach me, but I am lucky enough to have a vegan many who has the same interests! We can just coach each other as we learn together, right?! lol Thanks again!!

      Aly W. I’m showing what I do to get ready for a show. I eat lots blueberries, berries, bananas, and apples during prep. Starchy carbs keep me full longer, I just love potatoes and oats. I stick with foods I enjoy ☺️

      Natalie Matthews Fit Vegan Chef totally makes sense to me. I’m going to add in tofu to see if that’s beneficial, I use to find protein dominant food kept me full longer before I was eating raw vegan.

    What are your sources of iodine?

    • @anabolicamaranth7140
      @anabolicamaranth7140 6 років тому +1

      The most overlooked nutrient. I use Natures Way Kelp capsules from Vitacost.

    • @denisedube2340
      @denisedube2340 6 років тому

      It can be tricky getting the recommended intake of 150 micrograms a day without getting too much since the content in produce can vary much depending on soil levels, we don't know their content. I don't use any salt so I don't get any from iodized table salt. I've recently swapped a supplement with 1/2 tsp. dulse a day as suggested by Dr. Gregor. I add it in salads or a smoothie. I don't even taste it. An article I read stated it is estimated that approximately 30 million Americans have undiagnosed or misdiagnosed thyroid conditions. Adequate iodine intake is necessary also to safely tolerate goitrogens such as raw cruciferous vegetables and soy. A danger lies in those undiagnosed potentially exacerbating their condition unknowingly with not enough iodine while eating raw goitrogens or consuming too much iodine.

    • @anabolicamaranth7140
      @anabolicamaranth7140 6 років тому +1

      Denise - good points. I get about 150-200 mcg per day through the kelp and I'm guessing rather modest amounts from my diet. Not a bad idea to get a thyroid blood panel done once in a while.

    Can I ask who you coach is?

  • @Vindicator73
    @Vindicator73 6 років тому

    Grandma Nattie in bed by eight, ha. 😂 I bet that rest also helped with your legs getting leaner, as they say the body takes shape more so while its recovering from the "tear down" if you will it gets during the workouts. So yeah rest can be under-rated and should never be shied away from really for anybody, but especially for body sport athletes. 😊 ... So do you already know the first thing you want to eat for the post-show celebration dinner?? 😄

    • @NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef
      @NatalieMatthewsFitVeganChef  6 років тому

      haha yes, I'm such a Grandma!!!! Rest is very important, it's my number one priority during this week.
      I'm not sure what coach will allow me to have... I have another show the following week (Nationals) that's the big one!
      My go-to post-show meal is... a vegan donut, vegan nachos, and rice!
      There are a few healthier alternatives here in Nashville, I might have to go with that to stay on track for the next show. Like a macro bowl or a vegetable sushi roll.
