  • @piccuh
    @piccuh 5 років тому +31

    Don’t do this. Succulents- especially Echeverias (literally almost every succulent here) need full sun and will etiolate and die indoors. The glass cover will raise humidity in the planter and encourage stem rot. And it’s hard for beginners to keep succulents alive and healthy in vessels without drainage holes. Make the planter deeper and use ferns and moss instead.

    • @XpetraXpazlX
      @XpetraXpazlX 5 років тому

    • @extrae905

    • @piccuh
      @piccuh 5 років тому +1

      I keep my ferns in closed terrariums- constantly moist and high humidity. They will get plenty of light near window that gets morning light or in a particularly bright room. My only concern would be making the substrate deep enough for adequate drainage- the deeper the better. Of course if you have a particular fern in mind, research its particular needs beforehand

    • @aprilcurry1947
      @aprilcurry1947 5 років тому +3

      @@lisaking4160 The care really depends on the variety of succulent you have. My biggest piece of advice is to Google the variety you have and look up the care needs. Most succs like bright light and only need watered when the soil is completely dry. Some need full direct sun and some burn under those conditions. So it's best to look up care for each variety.
      This table is a bad idea. It does provide some air flow around the plants but those succulents need more light to do well and if direct sun hit that glass top it could intensify and burn all of those plants.

    • @heyowey
      @heyowey 5 років тому +4

      The plants will die in a few days because of trapped moisture which will raise the humidity causing root rot. The glass also acts a bit like a magnifying sun and will fry the leaves of the plants. Succulents are not terrarium plants, they should've used ferns and other humidity-friendly plants instead.

    Love this Idea except there can be issues. If you have kid(s) or pet(s) or just clumsy as hell (cough cough like me) it would be a pain to clean up the mess. I would also note it is a saftety hazard to unattended kid(s) or pet(s) bc of choking hazards or etc.
    This is how I would mod this idea which will be time consuming. I would use styrofoam as a base then place craft felt to map out what you want or to help fill in the gaps once you add your faux plants or etc.
    I would wrap floral wire to the faux Succulent plants to stick it onto the styrofoam. For the mini fairy garden decor I would get the ones that has a prong/stick that you can poke the decor into the styfoam. I would not add soil/fine powdery sand at all. If you get bored you can pullout the decor that is attach to the styrofoam since it is not glued on. Once you have to decorated you can place the tempered glass on top. I do not know how to anchor the tempered glass top but just simply putting it on the way the did it on the video.
    All in all its a cute idea. Moding it can be time consuming as well as you price point. You can mod it any way you want but do know it is a saftety hazard to unattended kid(s) or pet(s) bc of choking hazard/etc.

    As a plant mom, this is a bad idea unless you’re putting that table nearby an area that’s getting a lot of light. Succulents need at least 6 hours of sunlight to thrive. Otherwise, they will get leggy and some will die off. Beautiful idea but make sure you tell your viewers that these succulents need sunlight or it needs to be in a bright indirect light to thrive. If you can’t provide this condition, use fake succulents.

    oh there is so much wrong w this video I CAN'T. ok.
    1. use pebbles first, then charcoal. Personally, I like to use smaller ones when handling smallish succulents.
    2. there's room for air, sure, a wee bit of air. I'd be terrified to have my succulents under glass.
    3. So uhh.. you planned on putting it in a sunny spot? Or what's the deal? Cause at one point there are books on the table and uuhhhhh.. that's gonna kill the plants.
    4. I'll just assume that you aren't as clumsy as me and have no large dogs or whatever that could bump into the table.
    It's cute and pretty and all but there are so many cool ways to make succulent arrangements fit for the plant and this just ain't it.
    But if you really desperately want a table with real plants in it DO NOT CHOOSE SUCCULENTS. There's this channel called SerpaDesign and he makes insane Terrariums with lots of info about what plants he uses, etc.
    Also why is the nutcracker playing in the background lmao

    Terrible video. Wrong kind of soil for succulents. You have to use cactus soil for succulents. Not enough light for succulents & it needs drainage or a much deeper growing vessel. It should be put in a area with sun & no traffic that would knock it over

      My succulents are fine in normal soil.
      But i don't think planting them like this is a good idea. They don't really have room to grow correctly. & it should have somewhere for the water to drain.

    I think using fake succulents would be better, since they need to be taken care of.
