DIY Mini Terrarium Coffee Table From Recycled Materials Almost For Free | Upcycled Planted Table

  • As you all know I live in a tiny studio apartment in Paris, and I own more than 150 plant species. So it can get a little tight sometimes :) This is the reason why every new piece of furniture I bring in has to be well thought-through and with maximum practicality. And even better if I can incorporate some of my plants inside the furniture! A few months ago while scrolling on Instagram I ran into an awesome idea by James Wong, a British ethnobotanist (@botanygeek on Instagram) who had used an animal cage tray as a container for plants inside his glass coffee table. That's when I got fixed on building my own terrarium coffee table which would be small but practical and cute, and made almost entirely from recycled materials - therefore almost for free. I spent money only for the glass on top and the small wheels underneath, which cost me about 10 euros in total. I also didn't use any machines such as drills or saws, but only normal tools that everyone has. It was an easy and really fun project, and of course as with all my plant projects, there's not an end - this will be an ongoing experiment, as time passes I will probably change things and the plants will grow inside and over time it will become fuller and better defined. Enjoy!

Great idea and tutorial! The instructions are easy to follow, so I'll definitely be doing this soon. I love that you reused materials and, in turn, it was a very affordable and fun diy.

Thank you! Yes I really love reusing materials - low cost and I help as much as I can in preventing waste. Hope to do another cool project soon! Thanks for visiting my channel 💚

I really like your plant choices as well - I'm looking forward to seeing updates on this project as the plants grow in and take over. This looks like so much fun.
    Congratulations on 200 Subs!

I'm glad you like it! It's doing great generally, except I removed the moss because I couldn't keep up with keeping it moist and it just looked brown after a while. I also removed the perlite, it had soaked up the water from the substrate and became all brown. Currently I'm adding some new plants instead to fill in the holes so it needs a bit of time to fill in, but it's generally looking great! I'm doing some home reparations atm so I'm not able to post new videos (but I already have some ideas for when I start again), but if you follow me on Insta you'll see stories every now and then ☺️

Where can someone find preserved moss cheap in bulk

You can find this in most flower shops. However what I use in this video is not preserved moss but dried moss, please note there is a difference: dried moss is dormant but alive and does need watering and care to be brought back to life and maintained. Preserved moss is chemically treated and doesn't need any maintenance, on the contrary - watering preserved moss will ruin it. It cannot be brought back to life and I don't recommend it for a similar project like the one I did in the video. After trying dried moss though, I also wouldn't recommend it, as in an open terrarium like this it dries out too quickly and is very difficult to be kept moist at all times.
