  • This whisky was always gonna make it into a series of Bakers Dozen. It was only a matter of when rather than if. Does it warrant it's place here??
    Enjoy.

    My favourite whiskey

One of my favorite whiskeys. It's a shame a lot more people didn't try this one. It's not so common in the stores in the US but you are still able to find it. Beautiful very complex whiskey. Sometimes the darkness of it on a taste reminds me of old armaniacs.

I'm an Edradour fan and just finally picked up a bottle Caledonia, going to open it tonight. Cheers!

I very rarely, and I mean RARELY, see this bottle in my area. Once, while vacationing in Canada I came across a bottle. I passed it by and I’ve been kicking myself since. Something to look forward to! Great review! Thank you and slainte ( happy Burns night!!)

When a bottle has got that "oooh baby" moment. Loved the Signatory but yet to try this. Great stuff as always Jim! Cheers.

Hell yes, I second that mucker! As you know, Edradour is my favourite distillery and I do love a damn good dirty whisky - which this is. Stunning stuff. This puts me in my happy place. Cheers bud.

I've been really enjoying a bottle of this over the last couple of months. Agreed that it's in that 'old style sherry' group. I think it's also in that dry, slightly austere genuine sherry butt style, as opposed to the super sweet and slightly superficial sherry style that's so popular now. Very good stuff. Cheers Jim

    Thanks for reviewing, Jim
Have had this Caledonia and for me it's ok ... but that's mainly because I'm more into bourbon matured than sherry matured whisky. For sherried whisky lovers this one has some dirtyness that might be caused by the worm tubs at Edradour. Definately worth checking out.
Could have guessed your if you like this, then try this suggestion. I also would mention the Royal Brackla 12yo as an alternative.

Nice one! A dram fitting for winter indeed. Enjoying my time with it as well. Slainte Jim!

Cheers Frank. I have to say that I'm also gravitating toward ex-bourbon maturation of late although, when I'm looking for a sherry-bomb...this is the sort of one that suits my palate.
Royal Brackla 12 will show up in a Bakers Dozen series at some point.
      Slàinte buddy.

Great whisky, great review. Just ordered my fourth bottle over the years....just a fantastic dram. And by the way....I also ordered the Glenturret 12, never tried it, so it will be nice to crack it open.

Perfect timing for this review! I bought this whisky recently and plan to open it this week. Expectations are high, but when you compare it to Glen Turret 12, you can't go wrong.
    Thanks for the review!

I have a 10 yo Signatory Vintage CS Edradour that pretty much matches your tasting notes for the Caledonia, Jim. Just good stuff!
At 56% ABV, it's quite a robust dram, so I'd love to try this one some day too for comparison. I've been close to buying it a few times, but always ended up going for other things. I'd be surprised, if I don't end up buying a bottle at some point, though.
Like Frank, I also prefer bourbon maturation, but on the other hand, I like to keep a certain degree of variation going, so I keep learning and keep widening my horizon. So there's definitely a time and a place for some sherry bombs for me as well, even if I do prefer the more subtle sherry matured whiskies.
    Cheers buddy!

Love this whisky. Also love the Signatory releases of Edradour. I'm in an Edradour drought right now in my area. Haven't been able to get my hands on either. Loads of Signatory bottlings of other distilleries but not Edradour. I enjoy my sherry bombs most in the winter so I really miss not having an Edradour sherry bomb this time of year.

Wonderful stuff the Caledonia is! I stumbled upon it a couple years ago and although it’s a bit hard to find, I managed to get my hands on one bottle to drink and two more to put away in my rainy day stash. Great review Jim. 🥃

Loved the 10. Have had a few drams of this one and it really IS so so good. Doesn't sit on the shelves long in ON or QC here in Canada.

Worcestershire Sauce is 100% spot on ... that first contact is always harsh, vinegary, dank and a bit too much, but man, if you keep going, you reap all those fruitcakey rewards. Great review! 👏👏👏👏

I bought the Caledonia last year and loved it. I had stayed away from it because I had it in 2010 and was not impressed. But what Edradour are releasing now is so much better than what it was.

Have one of these unopened (so far). Didn't realize it was a sherry finish bottle. With Eddradour I jumped the line and went right into the Natural Cask Strength 12 year single casks. Cheers Jim

Interesting pick for the alternative, have yet to try that so will keep an eye out. Was thinking at first you'd pick the 10yo signatory release. All in all edradour is a great dram, but the price range makes it a hard bargain for me. So many bottlings to compete with. However with prices rising it might become an easy pick in the near future.

Love everything about this dram except the packaging. Caledonia is a bit of a syrupy tune but then again so is the whisky here so I suppose it fits. Whyte and Mackay really are walking into a buzzsaw when putting the weak sauce Dalmore 12 in the same pricing bracket as this, Springbank, Glenturret 12, Brackla etc.

Sad, as this whisky was not released as a "sherry bomb". First released as a refined whisky.

Another reviewer stated that this 12 year old tasted like a 30 year old. Do you agree?!
