- Recorded in 2021, this is the sound of Brood X from a distant perspective.
The frequency distribution shows two peaks, the first one is located around 1.2kHz and corresponds to the male calls, and the second around 6kHz.
The noise is very even, because of the millions of insects are singing on top of each other in the same frequency band. It sounds almost like synthetic noise, though it has been recorded on location! You can hear the birds singing in the background.
Big thanks to Ed Bennett - a fan of myNoise - who took the time to capture this for us.
This soundscape is very efficient at masking tinnitus.

This is awesome. Very soothing. Thank you.
I finally saw my first cicada shells of the season. Took pics for the app, Cicada Safari.
Crazy sound... We don't have this where I live. You hear a few cicadas but not like this.
If I close my eyes, I feel like I’m in the woods. 🌳
This is amazing! I have moved to a place outside of Brood X's range, and it's really nice to hear them. Such a strange yet peaceful sound.
love it
Oh definitely meant for people who live in the area 😂😂 does it just sound like this for weeks? I guess you get used to it after a while
Creepy and fascinating at the same time.
They don't sound like the cicadas I'm familiar with!
