Arguably, both Captain America and Iron man proved one another's jabs at each other wrong in their post-Avengers movies.
"Big man in a suit of armor... Take that off and what are you?" Pretty self explanatory.
"You're a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything special about you came out of a bottle" Cap proves he has the heart of a loyal hero even without fighting, as he shows he's willing to let Bucky kill him before fighting a friend.

The biggest thing to take away from this is the impact that the Battle for New York had on Tony. He is not terrified by falling from a wormhole or seeing lots of fighting... he is terrified because he knows someone sent Loki and that was more like a scouting force than the actual army. He becomes obsessed with what is coming and defending the earth and those he loves from that threat. That fear, that knowledge drives EVERYTHING he does from here on out (arguable everything that happens from here on out).

Nice reaction. You definitely caught the theme of this one - "Tony isn't Iron Man, Iron Man is Tony." It also has some other key points in it. 1) Tony is fighting some heavy mental anxiety issues - a.k.a. PTSD. He knows Earth won a battle against aliens, but he is stressed out believing it may not be over. 2) The shrapnel is removed from his chest. He no longer needs the mini arc reactor to survive.
There are some continuity errors in this film that drops it a few points for me. Overall the good outweighs the bad.

In addition to the movies there are also Marvel One-Shots that were produced during Phase One and Two of the MCU that are all about 5-10 mins long. They aren't required viewing but I think you would really enjoy "All Hail the King" as it gives The Mandarin, aka the British actor Trevor Slattery, a bit more character development and ties the story between Iron Man and Iron Man 3 together a bit more.

Ben Kingsley, who played the Mandarin, is one of the most skilled chameleon actors in history, and effectively ageless. He won an academy award for his portrayal of Gandhi in 1982. He was in his late thirties then, the age he appears to be in this movie. He was born in 1943 for God's sake, so just imagine how old he must have been in Iron Man 3! In his sixties! Almost 70! Dude's a legend beyond compare. There are so many movies I love him in.
The Vice President's motivation wasn't being evil, it was because he wanted his little girl to be able to be out of a wheelchair, since Killian's process could regrow lost/missing limbs. The completely wrong act for a noble-intended reason.
And very nice to see Yinsen again. Poor Yinsen.

I've always really liked this one. For some reason, it's not popular among a segment of fandom, but for me, it's definitely in my top Marvel tier. And I loved that they addressed the stress on mental health that this kind of life would take, even on someone as flippant and kind of arrogant as Tony. It really humanizes the character, and the script handles it in a very graceful way. It was an interesting choice.

I was not in love with it coming out of the theaters back then, but the more I watch it, the more I like it. They say a movie is only as good as its villain, but this is a big exception, I don't care at all for Aldrich, I think he's a rather uninteresting and uninspired character, but it doesn't matter, because it's all about Tony in this one, it's more about his inner conflicts and character development, and it just works. "seeing real life problems in a superhero movie" .... yeah that's pretty much been the secret to Marvel's success ever since Stan Lee started writing most of the comics many many decades ago. That's what made the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man so different from anything DC had going at the time.

Some friends and I discussed that scene where pepper gets irritated about Tony screaming out in his sleep conclusion we came to is is that the reason she is pissed at Tony and that moment is because he realizes he has PTSD he realizes that he's having some mental health issues but the problem is because he is Tony Stark and can't let go that he go he refuses to go get professional help he thinks he can sell this problem on his own like he has everything else that's why she's pissed not because he's calling out his sleep whatever it is and he's yelling about it's the fact that he refuses to go seek professional help because of that ego of his

Iron Man 3 at its core is watching Tony really come to grips with his own mortality. before he was just be fun-loving Playboy but after that near-death experience that really shook him and made him realize that he's just another man it's actually interesting and heartbreaking to watch his character go through this ark in this movie

Reminds me when Snoop Dogs is accepting his Walk of Fame place and during his acceptance speech he says, “ I THANK ME, I appreciate me, I did the work, so I thank ME”. And that’s right, you created your channel and your the one did the work, it’s your personality that shines. People always thank everyone else but in all actuality Tony Stark, Snoop Dog, and yes Alex Hefner did the work. Great job.

After the 1st one, this is my favorite Iron Man... seeing Tony have to rely on Tony instead of Iron Man is awesome. Seeing Tony suffer anxiety attacks, fear, relationship issues, weakness... he feels so human, like one of any of us would. And it makes Iron Man so much more bad ass to have gone through that and realized he doesn't need the suit... because HE is Iron Man.
