If people have a very good lifestyle and job in their home country then people should really consider whether immigration is a good idea. People have the incorrect assumption that immigration makes sense for everyone. Many families and communities in a home country place a lot of importance on immigrating. What may have made sense 10+ years ago may not be the case now. Unfortunately many community members do a disservice to other people considering immigration by not being honest about their experience and only share how easy life is and how everyone becomes wealthy. When others immigrate they feel shame if they aren't succeeding and aren't honest that life is difficult which creates more push for others to immigrate. It becomes a vicious cycle. In many cases if someone is honest about how many immigrants are struggling after they moved to Europe, North America or Australia people don't believe them and accuse them as discouraging others in order to keep the money making opportunities for themselves. Moving to Canada doesn't guarantee a better lifestyle or more savings. Because of the cost of labour and basic goods many have been able to hire help for very little from nannies, cleaners, gardeners even nurses in their home countries and easily purchase a lot of fresh produce, meats/fish, etc. If your living costs are lower then it is also much easier to save. People are under the false impression that both spouses working in Canada has to do with women wanting equality. Yes that factors into why women work but for the majority of families in Canada a second income is needed to live a certain lifestyle, save for retirement of children's education, etc. One of the things that couples must consider when immigrating is whether they are prepared for both parents to work. If they only want to live off one income maybe Canada is not a good option. The other issue is whether men are willing to help with the domestic duties, childcare, shopping/cooking, etc. If both parents are working the women can't do everything. If more traditional gender roles are very important to you than a progressive country may not be the best option. In addition Canada is a quite liberal country so you may not be happy living in Canada and raising a family in Canada if you are very religious and have a more "traditional" conservative views and don't want to be exposed to other beliefs on a daily basis.

Good and honest Video. Many people are saying that it is not rosy anywhere. I believe that is wrong. In Canada I have worked longer hours than in Europe and had less money at the end of the month. Canada swallows up a large amount (up to 90%) of your paycheck for rent/car/phone/internet. And I have not even included food, yet. I know many countries where part time jobs can let you live a minimalist life style. In Canada you will NOT survive on a part-time job - I can guarantee you that.

I insist all she's saying is relative. I have lived in Canada for two decades. So, I know what I am saying. Plus, it depends on where you are living. The lady in question lives in Winnipeg and came to Canada a few years ago. If you have the right mentorship, all she said about depression, Jobs, Credit facility and social life does not apply everywhere. For example, if you get to my social media platforms, you will know we parry a lots here depending on where you live. Not to talk of Toronto people that even buys aso ebi alot and gold for party's. She can't be judging whole of Canada with Winnipeg, Manitoba alone. Plus, it depends on the information and knowing the right people. Nigeria Associations and other ethics association are also trying their best. I worked in Nigeria from 2015 -2019 and I know that relocating to Canada is better for an average person, especially when people are young to start a new career than that zoo called country.😭 at the moment. To me, I don't think there's anything wrong in having opportunity to credit facilities. If you need it you use it, and if you don't you spend cash. It's personal discipline and no one is mandated to spend Credit cards.

Nice Review! I've always loved this channel for the critical reviews thank you Wolo!
Studying abroad taught me a whole lot of stuffs so I can really relate however I realise that many Africans don't look at the business side of it we tend to rely on our jobs to pay bills. I believe there are a lot of side hustles you can do as an immigrant that can fetch money.
Skills are really expensive abroad, sewing, hair styling and a whole lot which is inclusive of selling African foods (as at 2016 a tuber of yam of 400naira in Malaysia was abt 100ringgit -10,000naira), solving a need and all these can be done in your spare time these things can pay for the bills while you still work from 9-5 on weekdays.
Sometimes just thinking outside the box is what we need and trust me you don't even need a shop your fellow Africans are there they are your customers.
Back then I knew guys who made money through photography, selling cooked African foods (jollof, fried, roasted yam, plantain) from home and delivering them, and a whole of stuffs.
If u will leave your home country for any reason you might as well start thinking outside the box. Have a plan A,B,C,D.

I am a Canadian who has lived around the world. I'm not sure what this person says is hitting the real stress points. Some of the things that are big negatives for many immigrants are:
    1. Unless you live in the downtown core of Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver, you must own a car. Public transit does not exist outside of those very small bubbles. You are very unlikely to live close enough to walk to a market. Taxis are extremely overpriced and cannot be used with any frequency, they are really for emergency purposes only.
    2. Everything closes down early. Again, outside the major cities, the streets are dark by 8pm and no one is out. This often makes new immigrants from more bustling places feel afraid that no one is there to help if something bad happens, and it feels lonely.
    3. Restaurants are very expensive compared to income, so eating out is much less frequent. The cost is also partly due to madatory tipping / service charges which there's no way to avoid in Canada. The service level is better, but it's not worth the cost of tipping culture.
    4. Because of the above points, people in Canada don't socialize as much as in many other countries. They are farther away from each other, it's costly to go out, etc. There is more emphasis on entertaining guests at your home which can be uncomfortable for some people.
Issues for everyone in Canada, immigrant or not:
    1. Canada is overly litigious and rule based and PC. If you Google "Complaints from immigrants moving to Canada" or any variation of that, the results are all "How to sue Canadian immigration" or some high level government information about how to settle. They suppress just general normal conversation about life in general.
    2. Everything in Canada is over-regulated and taxed to the point where it is practically impossible to make decent money as an employee and impossible to make money as an entreprenuer.
    3. The tax system is ancient and awful. There are over a million words in the annual income tax forms. It ends up costing everyone a lot of unnecessary time and money and headaches.
Canada is a good place, but these are some real issues that need work.

This video is quite well done and realistic. I was born in Canada 60 years ago. Over the years I have personally seen many immigrants from many different countries thrive and often end up doing better than native born Canadians. Canada is a nation of immigrants and offers opportunity for those who have a positive attitude, are willing to work hard and pay their taxes. Virtually every 2nd person you meet is from somewhere else. The birth rate is only 1.6 so Canada needs immigration to survive. The motto of Canada is peace, order and good government. Canada is a vast country with only 35 million people. The climate can vary quite a bit, from the temperate and rainy west coast ( like Southern England ) to short warm summers and very cold winters in places like Winnipeg ( Siberia ). The climate does affect the lifestyle, the cold makes people stay inside much more than warm climates, this could make a newcomer depressed. The cost of living can also vary greatly between provinces. There are skills shortages in trades and health care which makes those jobs are easy to find. It helps even more if you are proficient in French and English. Canada has a fairly good social safety net including universal health care. Crime in the bigger cities can be a problem for new immigrants, their kids have been recruited into gangs. Possibly because their parents are working many hours and their children are left unattended?

Best of luck.

If you’re a Nigerian and you have an opportunity to travel to Canada, just hit the road without seeking for any advice . Stop listening or watching these UA-cam videos of people trying to SUBTLY discourage you from immigrating because Nigeria is hell fire. When I got an opportunity to travel to China to teach science in a high school, I simply hit the road to China and that decision has changed my family for good back home. Having said that it is worthy to note that there are challenges everywhere where and we all have different level of tolerance and adaptability. So the choice is now yours as an intending immigrant to decide. If it is where it was easy for the visa to be gotten, a good suggestion would have been that before you take your final decision of immigrating, that you probably do a visit to that country first and use that as your accessment tool because some people will prefer the US to Canada and vice versa but an opportunity to do a test visit will be an option that would help address that issue.

Depression is caused by lack of sunlight and friends.... and with this strict corona virus restrictions, it will only get worse.
As for me, I already made my decision...
    Naija for life.

The problem in Canada is hard working people take two steps up and the government takes them three steps down,by taxing the living daylights out of them.Carbon Tax,Hst,payroll tax, property tax and in doing so driving the cost of living through the roof. And we ain’t seen nothing yet.

If you lose your job does not mean you will be homeless. When you arrive abroad, you will have roommates and share the rent. Don't come to a foreign country and want to live alone at the beginning. Start small and start saving when working, save small amount, whatever you can for the rainy day. You are free to travel to any country if you are granted a visa, with God on your side, you will be ok, trust me. Please do not be scaring people, you can always make friends. At the beginning, you will miss home and could take more than 10 years Before
your mind does not think of where you were born, it is understandable. I know because I am talking from experience.

If you are going through depression, talk to some people, the Canadian government have resources, seek help before it is too late. Check the Yellow page for information. I am sorry that I cannot help you, I lived in the States. It is not easy at the beginning when you are new in a new country, make friends and I am praying now for God's help.

We go wish anyone making the move the best of luck and hope that their experiences will be much better than ours❤️

Its not only in Canada its everywhere...thats why you have to be prepared in all aspects of your life.. Always look into brighter side of Canada and you will appreciate the life there. 1 important thing is that you dont have to change visa everytime you will be laid off bec. You're permanent resident there or immigrant . Its just a matter of wide thinking. And if you have God and Savior like I have my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit with me anywhere I will be in any part of the world I will never be alone or depress. Just tried to widen your mind and Youll see how great to live on earth. not allways but if you stay positive and. with right mindset its gonna be easy for anyone.

It’s not so rosy if you’re coming here to make money. You will be taxed heavily on your salary, higher than California, Living expenses, from food to fuel are higher, medical care is not as good as in the USA. Unemployment is on average, higher than in the USA. Canada has destroyed the energy sector because of Liberal ideology, Business and investment isn’t as good either.
On the other hand, if you’re coming to Canada for a minimum wage job, the Welfare system will keep you from starving, thank to the taxation of working people.
    Choose wisely.

Thanks Wolo am sending you my cyber hugs you are truly the real deal. Please I have a request. Could you kindly do a video of the right use of credit card. I still don't get it. How can we earn positive credit history? Thanks for all you do us. Much appreciated.

    • @johnsonajayi7846
      @johnsonajayi7846 3 роки тому +2

You don't need a video to know how to earn positive credit history. It is very simple, if you use the credit card and pay back on time, your history will be good meaning a positive one and in a better position to borrow more if necessary. If you don't pay back, you will have a negative credit history. Period. Just be careful using credit card because the interest rate is so high, ranging from 18% and up. Your best bet is to save for emergency. Check out Dave Ramsey on youtube, it will open your eyes very well. If you listen to him and follow his advice, you will be better off. I am talking from experience, I had paid off over 50k in credit card debt within 10 years. Be very careful and goodluck.
