  • Chopping corn with our 6000 and Ford chopper. The chopper came out of a field in Southeast Missouri where it had been sitting for years and the man who had it planned to make a dinosaur out of it. Restored it last fall.

    Great to see a restoration of the chopper! Too few implements and the like are preserved like the tractors. Well done!

    That'd sure blow the carbon out of 'er! It's great to see a 6000 hard at work. And just a beautiful looking job on that harvester, too! :)

    I must have started chopping at 10 or 11 because dad got the 5000 in 67..The 800 Select O speed you'd just have to circle and chop on the flat ground after the badger wagon got about half full..Even the 5000 you'd have to lock the differential on some grades

    Nice job. Always wondered what it looked like around California,MO. I was born there in Nov of '54.

      That’s awesome. Where do you live now? My family has been around the California area since the mid 1800s. The farm I live on was homesteaded by my family.

      @@ford9000puller I live in Hereford TX, about 45 miles SW of Amarillo. Family moved back to Hereford when I was probably six months old. My dad was from Edina. We were in the dairy business. Dad came to Hereford in '37 as a guard at the Italian POW camp. Not sure what town we were living in then but it had to be close by.

    That's just neat. I don't know Ford even build choppers. There's a guy close to me that had a couple of old Ford combines. Take care and have fun

    It looks like a Fox built chopper

      I have thought that too but it has several parts the are the same as other Ford equipment. I wonder if Ford used some of Fox’s design when building this chopper.

      @@ford9000puller Could be they bought the chopper and blower from Fox and put it on an existing picker platform.

      Is it from the earlier ford Dearborn harvester design? Neighbor had one back in the early sixties. Looks to be a pretty good chopper for its day.

    Was this chopper capable of running on 1000 rpm?

    • @ford9000puller
      @ford9000puller  6 років тому +1

      The owners and parts manuals say nothing about it. I figured it would have been an option since Ford offered 1000 rpm on the deluxe select o speeds in the 801 and 901 and all the 6000s. Only implement I know of from Ford at that time that could be 1000rpm was the 2 row picker. The chopper was available with a wisconsin engine

    Good day from Ont. Boy am I wrong or does that corn look extremely tall, you can hardly see harvestor. Thanks

    • @ford9000puller
      @ford9000puller  4 роки тому +1

      Yes it was tall. We raise commercial turkeys and use the turkey manure for fertilizer. Mix a little rain in with it and it makes for some tall corn.

      @@ford9000puller Yes they say turkey & chicken manure are the b est. My dad said yrs. ago , nothing goes thur them, as far as weeds go, it might make grow more. Thanks

    Pardon my ignorance but l thought Ford recalled all the early red and white ones (Because they were a heap of trouble) and rebuilt them and then painted them blue and white🤔

    • @ford9000puller
      @ford9000puller  3 роки тому +1

      You are correct they were recalled and supposed to be painted blue after they were updated. You see a few originals that are still red because the owner didn’t want them painted but they did receive the updates just not paint. This one was painted over blue but when we restored it we went back with the original red
