This brings back good memories. I was a yard hostler working in Irving, Texas for five years. The yard was small and very busy. Lots of challenges daily. I loved it. I always looked forward to going to work despite my daily 90-minute round-trip commute to and from work. I only stopped because I reached the age of 67 and retired. I was at work when I took the photo of me you see holding a turtle I found on the road while on the way to fill the yard mule with fuel.
Ahh yard dawg life lol. I was a yard driver for two years to take a break from regular truck driving. I recently went back to driving a day cab again. I do miss the guys I worked with, but I definitely don’t miss doing a shit ton of moves or dealing with truck drivers asking me stupid questions lol.
Thank you showing the blindside back,as a trucker with 6 years experience I'm going to be a yard dog soon and never blindsided before. Be safe out there. I just subscribed to your channel.
I just recently joined the longshoremen union and have been told I’m accepted to do shunt truck training then hopefully if all goes well top lift training!!!
I'm a longshoreman and I work for ILA Local 24 and I'm about to do my hands on for the cert for the yard tractor, the first time I understood everything, but reversing is what confused me hopefully this helps.
Once your comfortable with controlling your truck and getting a feel of everything you will definitely be blindside parking easy sometimes it seem difficult but it’s all in the mind
@Cintron Chiddick yes that blindside isn't no joke, and I agree with everything you said, that offset backing is my weak one and maybe it's me cause I really wasn't getting the feel for the truck
At least you check the locks. I go into the NS to get loaded containers and they slapped the container on chassis with closed locks so the shit sittin all fucked up
You can also count one spot and uturn instead of counting 7, if you have the yard space , then You can pretty much strait back into the spot , its much easier
Aye man I became a spotter afew months ago at this plant. Was wondering what digital display you guys use because this distribution plant only uses radios and shit can get hectic at times with the moves only coming over the radio. Would be nice to have a similar setup
The longshoremen union I’m in is similar to what your at except it’s all boat cargo and watching you do what you do wherever your working would be a 6 union persons job. 4 people to remove any locks in 4 corners. Another 2 men to roll up the legs and spotter to back you in. Then of course another union member to drive the shunt truck!!! No one should work alone and scab ports where filthy rich logistics companies make mega bucks should all be longshoreman/union jobs!! Make the companies pay their employees a decent living wage and make our working class strong again as now our governments are trying their hardest to bankrupt us and make it near impossible to own a home!! The working class built our countries and we ain’t going anywhere without a fight!! LSPU Ila global power✊
@cintronchiddick9121 thanks man I'm training right now first day on the yard was yesterday, my trainer didn't even tell me about this and I'm having trouble controlling my backing right now
@@shogun8584 yea most trainers forget to tell u the most important things and just take your time and work on controlling the truck once u got the truck under control you gonna be whipping that thing with no problem
Honestly it’s been slow am thinking about leaving and maybe do something local I heard it’s suppose to pick up Tho because apparently they closed erail so we should be getting another train who do you work for?
I was thinking the same thing. Must not be union work!! No spotter, working alone, starting work before shift starts. All of the above would land me in front of the union executive and put on a union charge of $500 minimum. Even just starting 15 minutes before shift would get me put on a charge as if you injure yourself or anyone else the employer are not liable as work wasn’t started at the time.
30 Year OTR....I'm about to go to work on the yard. That was the best blindside tutorial I've seen.
Wow, thanks!
you got me to watch to the end

Whats the easy way?
At least you check the locks. I go into the NS to get loaded containers and they slapped the container on chassis with closed locks so the shit sittin all fucked up
Yep rookies happens all the time and other drivers would be there watching it the box getting loaded and don’t say nothing
You can also count one spot and uturn instead of counting 7, if you have the yard space , then You can pretty much strait back into the spot , its much easier
Yes you absolutely right but was just making the video and showing what they could do in a situation where they don’t have space to make a full unturn
@cintronchiddick9121 Copy tht, it's all good bro....Keep doin your thing...looks like good work
Very informative thanks !!!
Scrolling through my video feed and the thumbnail caught my eye. I pull those green containers.
That’s great I currently don’t work in the yard anymore I’m hauling end dump trailer
@@cintronchiddick Yeah yard workers grind out there. I feel for them. Lot of unhappy looking mugs at the rail. Is that in Kearny?

Is this the rail yard in jersey city
I've driven in the past but just wanted to know since the truck doesn't leave the yard do you still got to have a CDL to drive the yard dog?
Well all yards and companies are different but the yard where am working at you don’t need your CDL
another dope vid 😁
Appreciate the love 💪🏾
