I did it at several GM plants in Mich. before retiring. Everyone should have to do this job for a month before getting CDL. You have to get good at backing. 30-60 moves a day you have to get good.
GREAT VIDEO!!! I just subscribed to your channel. I'm in training right now as we speak. We just finished Theory week. I have one more week in training. I really needed to see this in action. Thank you for posting this video. I will be watching your videos this weekend. I have to finish hostler training next week. THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL CONTENT!!!
Congratulations Sharon 🥳🍾 I pray that you’re having a great experience driving hostlers. Remember to take your time!!! You get paid by the hour not the move, no need to make mistakes because of rushing ✨💙 let me know how you’re liking it.
@@anishaltvThank you for saying that…”take my time - I get paid by the hour not by the load!!!” I’m trying to get “backing up” down pat! Once I get the backing up part…it’ll be on and popping. I also want to do Tommy runs!!! I REALLY want to do that!!! 🤣 I’ll keep you posted and will still be watching your WONDERFUL videos!!! You make it look so easy and FUN!!! I’m going to be like you!!!💯😃💯
@@anishaltv Thank you for that advice!!! I have to re-take the training. They said...while backing...that I'm over-steering and holding it too long. I happen to be an over-thinker. I get on my own nerves with that!!! Also, I'm having to re-program my thinking because I keep forgetting...in a truck, everything is opposite of the car. When you're trying to go left, you have to steer right...and vice versa. Honey, I was having FITS!!!! Do you hear me? Finally, it started hitting me when I got to dock doors, but I ran out of time. That's why I AM SO GRATEFUL for your videos. I'm probably watching too many, but I really want to get this!!! Everybody on the yard makes it look SO fun. And the TOM Team is the BEST Team that I've worked in so far here at Amazon. I feel like I'm part of something very important!!! I love it!!! I go into 2nd training some time next week. I don't have the schedule yet. Waiting for them to get everything all set up. I'll keep you posted. Thank you again!!! :-)
Being a OTR truck driver i appreciate all the hard work yark jockeys do. My only complaint would be sometimes they spot the trailers so close that its difficult to raise the landing gear.
I do the same job at a pet food factory in Nebraska, and in some ways I think you've got it better than we do, but in other ways I don't!! We don't deal with intermodal container trailers, but we do have to move tankers of liquid animal fat, and also move grain hopper(bottom dump) trailers. We only have about 40 dock doors to back van trailers into, (looks like you have many more than that!!) We are required to put a jackstand, gladhand lock, and wheel chock on every trailer we put into a dock,(and of course remove those items when pulling the trailer out of the dock). The trailer inspection is supposed to be done upon arrival by our guard shack personnel, so us yard drivers don't have to spend time doing that on every trailer we move. Supposedly we are replacing our 3 diesel trucks with Orange EV electric ones within the next 2 or 3 weeks.
Awww 🥰 that means a lot to me. Remember you get paid by the hour not by the move so take your time and be safe above all else. Best wishes for your success✨
Question: have you had any issues or warning about posting this on youtube? I mean due to the employees amazon policy and so on? Thanks for your answer in advance.
I would say be low key, don't put that name in the title and don't tag them. Make sure your job is your number one focus and getting videos are a bonus. I know I could've got way more views by using the name but I didn't need the heat.
Before I got my cdl, I had to move containers and trailers for Walmart in the daytime, and target at night, it was stressful as hell
@@MoeMadison-c8e I was stressed when I first started as well because it’s a huge dangerous responsibility.

I agree 100% being able to back is extremely important and doing yard jockey work helps a lot.
Thank you for talking to us about the storage container extra work to do to be safe. Good job.
It’s definitely my pleasure 🥰, I appreciate you taking the time to watch 💙

I haven’t been to any tight yards like that but I can only imagine squeeze in between trailers to raise the landing gear.
Either that or they lower the landing gear so much that the trailer is sitting a foot higher than the fifth wheel when you back under it.
I pray being a yard jockey will be my first cdl job ! Im taking cdl classes now
You will do just fine 🥰
Don’t allow anyone to rush you and take your time 💙

Wow!!! I see what you mean. I would be nice to not have to pretrip every trailer I move. I thank you for sharing with me what you do...

Yeah, good stuff...!! Thanks for posting. Question. Dose the yard tractor governored to a certain speed? BTW frist 😂watching your channel. Peace...!
We’re not supposed to go over 15 miles in the yard but it goes faster.

No, I didn't have any issues or get any warnings and I've since moved to a different job.
Hope that helps 💙
