First day on my own I hit a guy's brush guard. Luckily there wasn't any damage. The guy was cool tho and actually gave me a backing lesson. and taught me some tricks on backing for like a half an hour. I learned more in 30 minutes than what my trainer taught in 25 days. I still look back to this day and think about how lucky I was that I hit that guy's truck. I think more ppl now days need to see a person who's obviously new and get out your truck and help that person instead of picking up the phone filming. Trucking is a stressful job and even more stressful when you are new. Especially since these megacarriers just throw random Joe's off the street into these big ass trucks. We need to help them out. we were all rookies at one point.

It's nice to get help but if you don't speak English fluently, please dont try to teach me how to back in. I was having trouble getting into a spot and this guy comes over speaking another language with a little English thrown in and I had no idea what he was trying to teach me. He was trying to tell me what to do for 15 minutes before he walked away. Once he finally walked away and let me keep trying on my own the way I was taught, I got it in there.

Biggest issue is lack of training. Most big companies have trainers who won't let students back because they get paid for their miles. I train and get paid hourly so I train my students right.

Just do what you need to do. As they see you doing it, they'll know you're new. Most will not grief you because they know. Some always will, but that's part of the game. Toughen up and ignore them. Normally as that plays out a 3rd person will side against them and they'll shut up.

I SUCKED at backing in truck stops and all when I first went solo. My trainer only cared about racking up miles, so he never took time to teach me. He just yelled whenever I screwed up and rushed me because we were "burning time". I got a lot better once I was off his truck as he wasn't screaming in my ear about how shitty I was backing. When I'd talk to more experienced drivers, guys with decades behind the wheel, they'd all pretty much tell me how bad a trainer he was. No matter how good I got though, I NEVER stopped Getting Out and Looking. If I had any doubt to having the space available, I got out and looked.

GOAL. I drove tractor trailer 11 years till the worker comp back injury. You get better when you keep practicing. I really didn't care how many times I got out and looked or did corrective pull ups, I needed in that spot (whether for parking or the dock to load/unload) without hitting anything.
If you didn't look, you can only blame self when you hit.

You sound like me 😂 sitting at the yard wondering why it seems so difficult to some I also hostled in a tractor not just a mule pretty fun makes it more of a challenge rather than too easy 😉 challenge yourself when you can so when you have to its easy and you have the confidence for it. Sad to hear you seem to always have someone hitting you. 😪 it's better and everyone would rather you get out and look than damage another truck.

how about when you are backing up into a single slot rather than 2 available slots. seems like you had extra room for mistakes. I imagine it is a lot harder in a single available slot. do you have a link to that one?

When exactly do you turn hard right? He did it after passing only 1 parking spot. I usually turn after my side mirror is at the end of 2 parking spots. When exactly is ideal?

Ok, i saw the hard right then left. My question is did it matter when u started doing the right turn? I thought u line up the spot u want with your shoulder then hard turn right. Im new.

It’s more of a timing and feel thing ! I’d say once you see your trailer going the way you want it start to turn the wheel to get the tractor back underneath the trailer and just walk it in there
I’ll make another video showing how to do it again soon
Thanks for watching and I hope I was able to help you out

Your new driver and you can't back that's not a problem anytime you're sitting around with time on your hands you throw a couple traffic cones out and you practice practice if you got a co-driver you can like call out dock numbers to them hit the stock hit this stock and see how long it takes you to go through like 10 docks . Youmake a game out of it be amazed how good you get it backing it just takes a little practice I like to practice with nobody watching me because even with cones I kind of suck but I amazed myself practice bro you'll get good at it I guarantee it. I forgot to mention you do it away from everybody find a closed industrial building with a dock area and practice there find a big dirt lot across the street from a truck stop and practice there.

I can agree with that however I think it’s kinda difficult to find the space to do what you’re saying at a truck stop … I do agree with you.. I think that being a local driver

Where to start turning the wheel to the right where should the tires be ? Do they need to be on line with the next truck to the spot we gonna back ? And when do i stop turning the wheel to right and do it to the left to straighten up truck

I always look for easiest back possible, which in my opinion is a straight line back. If i hv to do a back like he is doing( i pull spread axle..u cant back a spread like a closed tandem) i will just get close as im backing in. I dint see a need to hit spot perfectly on first try if i have two open spots. I will get close then pull up and get into the space as i should.

    • @BJAM0608
      @BJAM0608  3 роки тому +1

I understand that ! I can make turns much quicker than a spread axle with the box I pull. Stay safe out there :)
