    You can hear the heartbreak in Rorschach's voice when he said "Do it." he didn't want to die, but was willing to do so for his beliefs. Even in a room full of people, he truly was alone.

    The number of people who say they "hate" Rorschach completely prove why the character exists: he's supposed to be an extreme figure of justice, a parody of the "masked detective" like The Question, much like how Comedian parodies Peacemaker. He is deliberately designed to be provoking and "offensive", his entire character is built around never backing down or compromising even if it is seemingly for the greater good.

      @BRAZILIAN_MIKU 5 місяців тому +34

      @@XofHopeI have read it and rorschach is the best character that came out of watchmen. Rorschach is radical yes but the core foundation of this characters, highlighted by most as his greatest trait (and also seen here), is uncompromise against the wrong. He believes that, while criminals and degenerates should get hell on earth, innocent people should never be traded for a "greater good". That's consistent with alot of normal people's ideals, because it turns out that, if the greater good happens to be impossible and abstract/hard to define when you reached that greater good, endless genocide happens until the entire society burns down and is replaced by another.
      Watchmen is also a comic where most characters vision of the world reach it's pessimistic logical conclusions, Rorschach is ultimately defeated by a bigger force than him, and when confronted with reeducation, he doesn't skip a beat to die fighting the forces he swore to destroy than live a broken life where everything is meaningless because he lost his soul in exchange for his survival. For most people, that's better than a humam sacrifice for uncertain stability and peace (Ozymandias choice), we don't know if peace will hold forever (based on only the first watchmen), so we don't know if that sacrifice is worth it, and Ozy clearly sets an precedent for possibly even worse sacrifices in the future by the hands of Manhattan. Most people think like Rorschach, and that gets even clearer when you look at the inspiration for the character: a normal moral guy that Moore hated because the guy was unwilling to look past the means and only focus on the ends like Moore did.

    • @XofHope
      @XofHope 5 місяців тому

      @@BRAZILIAN_MIKU I get the feeling we read a different comic! Remember his diary? There are no innocents to him, he only sees the worst in everyone and the world around him. He's an hypocrite for doing exactly the same as Ozy, only at a smaller scale. To get to who he wants he'll severely beat up anyone he suspects may have information, even if they don't. That's actually pretty much the core of his investigation method, he beats up people, that's it. To him, the end does justify the means, no matter who he hurts, he just refuses to see it blinded by his distorted self-righteousness.
      Everyone in Watchmen is flawed, after all they're supposed to be people. It's just that some are more flawed than others.

      Good man isn’t very accurate. Rorschach is a racist, homophobic, bigot. He’s a hero, he’s done good things, but he’s not a good man. He kills pedophiles and murderers, sure, but when he talks about people, how he acts around other people, you can see the grimy underside shine through. Rorschach is a fucked up guy processing his trauma through hate and disgust, for everyone and everything. His drive to do good isn’t to protect the innocent, or so that the world is a safer place for little girls. He does it because somebody has to pay.

      After the accident, Dr. Manhanthan kind of lost his humanity, he let the comedian kill a Vietnamese woman when he could have done anything to prevent her death... but he didn't. That's why he always goes to Mars and spends time there... he no longer feels connected to humans. Silk Specter made him change his mind, but it was too late, Ozymandias killed millions of people using Manhattan's powers and he made it seem like it was really Manhattan who did the genocide. USSR and the USA joined and the cold war ended because they thought that Manhattan was the enemy... Despite having been guilty, Manhattan supported Ozy's decision to achieve peace... BUT Rorscharch was against it, he stated that people should know the truth, even if it cost world peace ...manhathan can kind of see the future and he knew he should kill Rorschach because nothing would change his mind, so he killed him, because he was just another body considering the millions who died to achieve peace.

      @@imbatman815I'll say that his theme was executed very greatly through the changing view of future and past however I didn't find him much more deeper than ozymandish.
      Ozymandish as a kid was fascinated greatly through Alexander and thought of him as his idol.
      He delusionally compares himself to Alexander and realise that Alexander failed to unite the whole world.
      He retraced all the steps taken by Alexander and symbolised the Alexander's conquest of Asia and Africa by the sculptures he has of mediterranean and egyptian culture.
      Earning to become just like Alexander, Ozymandish build the influence which he had all by himself instead of living a luxury life thanks to fortune left by his immense rich parents just like Ozymandish.
      Alexander was a great leader and fighter and in general a very intellectual person. Adrain, Being a son of parents with unremarkable genetics overcome the crisis of intelligence just by the motivation of becoming just like Alexander. This added to his career as costume adventure adds even more than this.
      He thought of himself as the bringer of unity and thus regarded himself as the conqueror just like Alexander.
      The sheer amount of intensity of desire that Ozymandish had was insane. His thought process was twisted and yet in his own way correct because he deem that what he was doing is making the world a better place even though what he had done was just because of him becoming like Alexander and not because of a sense of "mortality". The amount of parellel he had in issue 11 and 12 is just insane. Also, I might have mess some things up so make sure to point out them

    Dr. Manhattan’s decision to kill Rorschach is both a personal and philosophical one. By looking away, he briefly withdraws from the immediacy of the situation, as if distancing himself emotionally from the difficult action he’s about to take. This moment shows a rare glimpse of his inner conflict, perhaps the closest Dr. Manhattan comes to a "human" hesitation.
