I think that you shouldn't have tested them over white or black,but you should have followed it's toppers undertones. For example, mystic marine looks stunning over a baby blue polish and astral aura really upgrades any pink polish! I tested gilded galaxy over a nude polish and it totally gives glazed vibes! Try those recommendations and they will change your mind!

You're right of course, Lustrous Luxury is the one to get from this collection if any. Interesting look for this one. Thanks for the swatch Janixa, I also think they are best used over black. They get lost on white.
They do get lost in white. So sad.

I’ve been waiting for these swatches! I kept seeing ads for these but there’s so many and they’re not inexpensive so I didn’t want to buy just yet! Glad I waited. I’m sure some of these would look pretty over certain colors, but they don’t seem to have mass appeal where they’d work over a lot of different colors, so very limited use.

UA-cam showed me a video of an Essie event where they showcased their jelly line and special effects line together. The chose shades like blush jelly and astral aura, cactus jelly and mystic marine (beautiful), orchid jelly and ethereal escape. I guess they should have just put the two together in the first place. Made so much more sense. Ink jelly with lustrous luxury looked amazing together.

These toppers are sooooo pretty!!
Who wears toppers over white? I think over nude it would be the best result. I love them tbh. They where on sale and as not one Review was online i ordered 5 of them and i LOVE them over a nude pink. Sooo pretty. Over white toppers are ALWAYS shit. I did pay 6,20€ tough. I would not have paiid more.
Glad you love them. Lots of people wear toppers over white. Black and white are the common colors for them.
I wear toppers over white 🤍 If it's the right topper it can look beautiful. I had a topper that causes a beautiful color shift effect.

Smart way to review these. Well done! 💕 Leaning into the base color of the topper to match with a solid, creme shade would kick a plain shade up a notch.

If Mystic Marine were an opaque shimmer polish, it would be pretty. Essie maybe needs to go back to the drawing board for toppers.

Ilnp has a (in 3 layers) opaque polish in this kind of colour, a little more blue i think: Valentina

I like the Mystic Marine because of the contrasting red flash. Id buy if it was in a store near me but my local stores always skip most of the collections.

I saw these in store today and immediately came to UA-cam for a review! I think I may pick up Frosted Fantasy, it looks so pretty over black. Plus it was on sale at my Walmart LOL

These effects can easily be achieved with powders. There is a large variety.
Those that are more pearly - would you wear them built up with 3 coats? And maybe mix with one of the true toppers? That’s what I thought of when I saw the collection.

No they aren’t magnetic.
I've tried Essie toppers before and honestly I just threw them out 'cause they were horrible. It's too bad 'cause they're so good in regular polishes

I like them. I never wear shimmery toppers over black or white, but love them over my cremes, and I think most of these would look good (except it's hard to envision that one ugly one, LOL)!
I don't think this was a completely fair review because I don't think the toppers are meant to shine on black/white polish. I think these were meant to look their best applied over colourful polish, like their hit cremes or new jellies from their collection. There's videos of each topper over a creme on Essie UK's site.
Regarding price, I don't think these were necessarily meant for the US, where there's easy access to boutique/indies, which is maybe why these appeared in Canada and the UK/EU first (in Canada, in my experience, it's usually harder to find unique or new finishes). I can only speak for Canada but these fall in the range of acceptable mainstream polish prices here (Amazon Canada is the cheapest but they go anywhere from ten to twelve dollars Canadian at other retailers, and cheaper on sale).
Nonetheless, your review is valid, and we can tell a lot about a topper from how it appears on black/white polish. I didn't like the pearly finishes in this collection either and now I understand why I really don't like Gilded Galaxy lol. As always, thanks for swatching new mainstream collections 💜
I swatch toppers over black and white because of time. It would take a long while to swatch them over a bunch of colors.
@@naillacquertherapy I think what's disappointing me is that usually you give mainstream polishes a very fair shot (and you're one of the few swatchers who do). I didn't say swatch all of them over a bunch of colors, but there was an opportunity to see what they'd look like over the new Essie jellies (one topper for every jelly). Like I said I'm not surprised they look bad over black and white, Essie themselves are swatching them over their colorful cremes or their new jellies.
I think it's kind of disheartening that because of this unfair review, now most of the comments assume the collection sucks and there's a lot of mainstream dunking going on. If HT had released a topper collection that looked their best over their colorful cremes, I'm sure swatchers would show them off as such. I'm not sure why Essie/mainstream is different.
$13 makes it hard to give these a chance. I think Astral Aura was pretty though.

$13 for these? No, thank you. I wish ESSIE had released some sort of recipe book. Meaning I wish they had different color cremes to pair them with. Like put a navy base with this topper and a dark forest green with that topper. Etc. That would be cool.

I was so excited about these, but the price is a no go for me, they are not Wow Factor enough. But to be fair, aren't these supposed to be used as toppers for the new Jellies? That may effect how they look. Curious to see real world examples of those combos.

I think they were intended to be swatched over Essie cremes or jellies, you can see that in all the marketing material for the toppers.

Thank you for this video bc I was curious about these. I think I saw these somewhere and was like.. these are nice but LA Colors is always doing polishes like these, and they are way cheaper ! So I probably won’t purchase these . the blue was my favorite.

Why didn’t they just make a polish that gave the same look as the toppers but as a single polish? These seem like more work then they are worth.
Oof, Essie Though, I can see some ideas through the bad, like Gilded Galaxy would be actually amazing as an opaque neutral peach pearl polish!? It almost makes me wanna check it out for use as a topper over HT's See Y'all Later Chai or something similar...🤔

I only like the one u loved. They REALLY need to do better when all the chrome powders out there are great but not as easy as polishing. If Essie would get them just right they’d sell out. The price point is way too high!!!!!
The PRICE is astronomical for what you get and how much these ingredients really cost esp when you produce on a scale like essie! I see so much greed, it makes me sad! That one you pointed out was very pretty, but trust me, you can get something like it from indie brands for less. Great review as always!
