My apologies for just now getting around to this. You'd kindly left a link on my own cover, though the comment had been marked as spam, initially. Nevertheless, I finally got here and I must say I haven't been able to retrieve my jaw from the floor. The performances, skill, level of detail, and interplay are all simply astounding. It was like hearing Oldfield's original album again for the first time, though with colours of Tubular Bells II and III. This is beautifully, masterfully crafted and executed. Splendidly done and my hat's off to you.
Wow Rory, thanks for the comments. Tubular Bells was actually really fun which made it easy to do. I've spent the last two months on my next project ... Pink Floyd's The Wall. I'm just starting the third side of this four-sided album, so I'm probably a few months away from finishing!
I’ve listened to this starting 50 years ago when it first came out. I imprinted on the music, note by note. Got goose bumps listening to your production of this wonderful composition. Anything this good had to have been made with love as well as talent.
Thanks. The recording was fun ... the video was work. I made it in my single-car garage so I had to "slide" musicians on to the stage sometimes as I didn't have the room to walk on. Most of the time my eyes are watching a computer screen to figure out where I am. A few video-philes have asked how I did the instruments with green screen, so I am going to pull together a "How To ..." video.
Thanks bros ... I used a sheet music that I downloaded, which as about 36 page long so it was pretty detailed (although they cut a minute or two our for some reason).
This is brilliant. I know next to nothing about music and the timings etc, but I know this track very well and you have done a brilliant job of covering it. No easy task, I imagine.
OMG John, That was out of this world. I wondered why I hadn’t heard anything from you in awhile. Massive project and wonderful job. Big smiles from me.
I came here directly from a link on somebody else's page. This is an awesome piece of work, on both the music and video. I'm going to be candid too however, if I may, and say that I really hope one day you can find the time and the will to revisit this, because amazing as this recording is, for those closely familiar with the original work, this with good reason has some noticeable rough edges, including some probable wrong harmonies mainly in the middle sections, a few timing issues here and there, etc. I know you purposely timeboxed your work on this, and that doing so was part of the point of what you did, but actually, your end result here has turned out so special that it deserves a further-tidied-up version to showcase what you have created in its best light. The whole concept of your video is fabulous, and is compelling from start to finish. Even Mike Oldfield's original recording was not the final mix. And let's not understate that timeboxing. You did this to an exceedingly aggressive timescale, and not only that, you did all of the work on this single-handedly [well, almost*]. It sounds like you worked out a lot of the notes yourself as part of the effort, which only makes this even more amazing. Timeboxing by its nature is incompatible with perfection, and if timebox methodologies work on an 80/20 rule then I think there's no doubt you far exceeded that here. If you ever do create a further version, this existing version must continue to stand as extraordinary and inspirational testament to what you achieved in that compressed time. [* - but not forgetting your wife's vocals that you faithfully and convincingly turned into Mike's choir. And, obviously, it's Mike Oldfield's composition.] And also a footnote - I also saw your cover of Pink Floyd "Another Brick in The Wall Part 2" elsewhere on this channel (amongst the rest of The Wall album from the look of it). It has been sitting there for a few months but watched by very few. For those familiar with that track and maybe the original video, I would suggest the version on this channel deserves significantly more views than its been getting so far...
There is some great music out there for this piece. I used one that was about 30 pages long and was pretty close on the guitar parts (although there were no tabs with that, so you had to work it all out)
@@TheLonePiper is that what you linked to in the comments? I’m not the greatest at reading music so could begin. I’m getting better at it by using all these music writing programs. Gotta love technology. Makes Beethoven and whatnot even more impressive.
@@mattdenninger Sorry, I didn't put a link there, but this is the one I used ... www.scribd.com/doc/69727607/Tubular-Bells-Mike-Oldfield-Score-for-Piano-solo-Partitura-para-Piano
Great cover! And what a monumental undertaking in recreating all the sounds and learning each instrument part! Good on you! I don't fully agree with all the time signatures you used in the bottom right hand corner, but I don't want to sound like a snob by arguing over such a minute detail in the video because the parts you play are totally correct in spite of small insignificant discrepancies. In any performance, whatever works for you (the performer) is best, anyway! I think you did a magnificent job! BRAVO!!!
No ... you're not snob at all ... at one part I played the piano part as the 3 x 7/8 + 1 x 9/8 for which the song is famous for ... that's 30 1/8th note beats, so I counted the descending piano and bass in 3/4 for 5 bars and it came out to 15 1/4 note beats and ended at the same point. The time signatures I included are more a reference for the beat/count/timing if someone wants to play along with the track (I uploaded a few mix where I knocked out the guitar and the bass). Cheers!
Ahhh. I see I always felt that as a 7/4+4/4+4/4 (in the intro) but I checked the way you showed it works perfectly well too! I never felt it that way before but it feels really good that way, too! Once again bravo on putting it all together! So great to see people still being creative during these difficult times. Be well!
Perhaps you should do your own stuff and be judged by it instead of doing covers and being compared. However talented a musician might be, they'll always be compared to the originals and usually found wanting.
Good idea! This is exactly my intention. However, I am performing everything myself, as well as recording and mixing both music and videos ... that's the engineering, mixing, production, etc. So in COVID isolation, first I am replicating to learn the the techniques used in some of my favourite tunes. Thanks .. I did this four years ago in COVID lockdown and I still remember listening to the original over and over to transcribe notes.
Wow! Awesome job, thanks for sharing!
Thanks. That one was intense, but fun.
This is superb,,,,,,thank you.
Glad you liked it John ... cheers!
Great job
Cool ... feels like a pandemic ago since I recorded that!
This is beyond words, you should take this show on the road I would pay to see it.
Alas, with a one-man band, you can't really duplicate it on the road. Anyway, it was fun to do during COVID!
All in all, an excellently put together piece.of multitracking video.

It was easier than I thought it was going to be as it didn't feel like work once!
Cool, and cool video too 🤪👍

No, not perfect, but it doesn't need to be. Nice one squirrel! I think Mike would definitely approve of your version. Do the second movement as well!
