This man is at a point in his life where he is ranking crabs he DOESN'T like while im here eating ramrn noodles at 3 am studying to pass this semester, lol. Somday, I'll be there
The last commenter has a point, grew up dirt poor & I was eating crab, lobster & shellfish like I was royalty growing up coz of my grandad who use to drown buckets of crabs every Friday morning to boil & dress them to sell through the weekend, he lived a spit away from the north sea in east Yorkshire & did it as a hobby to top up his pension money when he retired. Plan to live as close to the coast as I can when I'm financially stable enough to move for the seafood alone 😂. I only live an hour & a half away now but the price & quality of seafood is shocking when I know what I can get being near a harbour.
In due time. Trust me, I’ve just hit 36. It is impossible to have a fun 20 something lifestyle without it playing a huge hazard to my health, weight, and visible appearance. Don’t rush getting old. You’ll make money in no time
I don't think they're soft shell crabs in the common sense of thinking. They're small and shells are thin enough for people to eat after a bit of chewing. They're about the hardness of eggshells which seems soft compared to other crabs. Still not very tasty.
Soft shell crabs are in a particular part of their molting process that makes their shell super soft. You got them when they had their shells still hard.
@MrMapjaw because he ate the crab with a hard shell, rather than cracking them and getting the meat out normally. My original comment wasn't that he had the wrong crab, but that it wasn't at the right point in the molting process.
@immoralnight9895 bruh, ain't no way. Did u watch the video? He purchased Japanese soft shell crabs that were actually hard shell. Crabs don't molt after they're dead. How was he supposed to make them soft shell crabs?
The last crab is really common in rhe UK, its one of few that we have living in the seas around England. My grandad use to drown, boil & dress them every Friday to sell when I was a kid aswell as mussels, whelks & lobster so I grew up eating them all the time. The brown meat is an aquired taste for sure! The claws & legs have white meat though similar to many other crabs but it's sparse compared to what you get in the head. Imo the best way to eat them is dressed on their own or with something like a melba toast & butter or plain cracker coz the meat is so strong. The brown meat can be made I to a beautiful patè thogh if you ever get one again!
They nutrients help alot. The sea around Norfolk has a chalk rich sea floor and is particularly nutrient rich which is why the crabs from there are pretty famous.
I love snow crab, but my favorite is Dungeness crab. I’ve never had a bad snow crab. I’ve also never had brown crab, but judging by your review I will not be trying them.

I've spent some time in Japan and had the fried soft shell species. Not really a soft shell per se, just small enough that the shell doesn't bother you to crunch. They were fried much darker than your clip showed and were seasoned slightly with Cajun seasoning. Delicious.
I am from Maryland and eat alot of crab I agree with the inconsistency. We steam snow crab for 7 mins or until they are hot. But not longer than 7 mins and they are pre cooked. I want you to try a Australian mud crab. I would like to try those. Also a Tasmanian crab! Edit: Maybe if you get enough likes you can try a Tasmanian crab, I think they are very exspensive!
Brown Crab is for those that love crab butter 😅 so much and so thick! Great for stews and curries. Also they overcook easily and get rubbery and earthy (they should be sweet when cooked right)
The issue with snow (also Alaskan King) crabs is how they're treated after catching. Good products are fresh and sweet - but a lot of cheap brands will use salt to keep them from spoiling quickly. It's poor quality from the handling company, not the crab's fault.
Honestly i feel like thats the best review ive heard about snow crabs. Most people say the meat is too difficult to get out of the legs and is therefore worse than any other crab. But the inconsistency is something I've had a problem with a lot. There is 1 restaurant ive gone to that has HUGE flavorful snow crab legs. They snap open with a bit of force, covered in old bay and the giang chunks if meat melt in your mouth. The best crab ive ever had. But at the same time, ive eaten at a lot if restaurants that serve snow crab and no other has come close to that quality. Most snow crab legs are really small which can be disappointing. Plus a lot of restaurants have served me legs that were either cold (ew) or saltier than the sea they came from. So you get tiny, expensive crab legs that might be unbearably salty or grossly cold most of the time and sometimes get the most flavorful and delicious crab you could eat. It really sucks too considering how balanced they are in terms of food. Big, meat filled legs with thin shells make the meat easier to get to. And the mest isnt tough either, thats the problem with king crab. Sure the meat is large and flavorful but you habe to get through fort knox just to get mest that is kind of chewy. Its not terrible but not quite the texture i like compared to snoe crab
At times when I am watching your videos you appear to look like Mark Rober I need to admit. I think that is part of what keeps me besides the wonderful content of all types of crabs. Keep rocking it out man!

Brown crab is the best crab u can get. put it on a slice of white lofe not the cheep sweet version but a lofe with seeds on it add a good portion of mayonnaise on it a little lemon juice tiny amount then some pepper not much just a little and don’t cook the crab for more than 15-17 minutes in salty water about a 2 cups for a large pan of water.
