if im not mistaken, she uses the scissors to break something on the head/ mouth area so the crabs lose their feeling so they dont feel anything when they are cooked. I think a colleague of mine who cooks said something like that.

If you quickly hit them between the eyes with a cleaver or heavy knife to split the brain in half, you kill them in a second so you don’t have to torture them alive in front of each other. Have some mercy and be kind to what you’re killing.

They’re pretty small for mud crabs actually. And the best way to kill crabs isn’t to stab their faces, you stab up underneath where the triangular ‘flap’ meets the body, far more humane, if you care about that of course. Looks delicious though!
They are still moving and blinking their eyes long after being stabbed in the mouth. I saw people stabbing them somewhere in their chest that kills them instantaneously.

Yes that the best way too kill them instantly. I catch and cook crabs all the time, best thing you can is tip them upside down in a sink get a good solid screwdriver and where the tail fold up ends underneath the crab right in the center you push fast and sharp one plunge, straight through the central nervous system and kills them instantly. I think the lady did kill them first but obviously the method through the front doesn’t destroy the nervous system so although they appear alive, it’s just the crabs nerve endings going wild.

@@bevh4408 neither do I but when I went too Thailand I couldn’t help what I had seen with my own two eyes. In many parts it’s still a developing country, so give them time, I’m sure they’ll catch up. But being westerners I suppose we’re used to a certain culture and cleanliness. The rubbish truck turns up once a week gets grabbed by the wheelie bin machine tipped in the back to be taken away, where too? I don’t know, I know my recycling bin gets recycled which good, but the rest? Incinerated or landfill I haven’t a clue?
I do not agree, the crabs were not beautifully prepared. They were inhumanely killed by forced to suffer rather then a quick dispatch. Then when she opened the crab you can see they weren't properly cleaned w/crab feces still there. I didn't care for this particular video persay myself. I do however like that she caught her meal and did her best to prepare the crab. I just think she has a lot to learn about how to dispatch the crabs instantly so they don't lay and suffer after being peirced through the mouth. That's my personal opinion.

I think you mean blue crabs like the ones I eat outta the Chesapeake Bay. Try dipping the crab meat in a little bowl of white vinegar and cracked pepper. You may never go back to butter again! The oysters that come outta the Bay are quite tasty as well!

They don’t suffer. Once you stab them straight through the front it destroys the brain and kills them instantly. I know they were still moving but that’s the central nervous system going wild because the brain signals are gone. Remember crabs are very basic ancient creatures they don’t have advanced central nervous system like humans or mammals they don’t feel pain like we do. Their limited to pressure.

If she's using dull scissors, I see why she'd try going through the mouth, but I agree stabbing through the underside with a sharp knife that can go through the shell is the best. removing the carapace is a good way too, but it could be difficult (esp live crab, it's pretty stuck on there and the crab will struggle). stabbing is faster, but both are BETTER than boiling alive.
That and I think they can run away if there able to

A rather cruel way of handling them. They ought to have been properly dispatch first.
At the very beginning she stabs the crabs straight into the brain and central nervous system. Its far more humane than dropping them conscious into the boiling coconut water.

The sympathetic nervous system is still active for a while with residual motor nerve impulse potential. The animal was euthanized by the destruction of its brain. As long as the brain is quickly destroyed, it is considered in a state of surgical anesthesia which means it cannot sense pain.

That's not the right way of dispatching a crab.....it was absolutely brutal. An ice bath and a cleaver to the abdomen gets the job done. Also the crab was not cleaned..... we could see the crab feces when they were removed.......
Other than that, the preparation style was quite unique.
