I don't think they're soft shell crabs in the common sense of thinking. They're small and shells are thin enough for people to eat after a bit of chewing. They're about the hardness of eggshells which seems soft compared to other crabs. Still not very tasty.
Soft shell crabs are in a particular part of their molting process that makes their shell super soft. You got them when they had their shells still hard.
@MrMapjaw because he ate the crab with a hard shell, rather than cracking them and getting the meat out normally. My original comment wasn't that he had the wrong crab, but that it wasn't at the right point in the molting process.
@immoralnight9895 bruh, ain't no way. Did u watch the video? He purchased Japanese soft shell crabs that were actually hard shell. Crabs don't molt after they're dead. How was he supposed to make them soft shell crabs?

The last crab is really common in rhe UK, its one of few that we have living in the seas around England. My grandad use to drown, boil & dress them every Friday to sell when I was a kid aswell as mussels, whelks & lobster so I grew up eating them all the time. The brown meat is an aquired taste for sure! The claws & legs have white meat though similar to many other crabs but it's sparse compared to what you get in the head. Imo the best way to eat them is dressed on their own or with something like a melba toast & butter or plain cracker coz the meat is so strong. The brown meat can be made I to a beautiful patè thogh if you ever get one again!

The issue with snow (also Alaskan King) crabs is how they're treated after catching. Good products are fresh and sweet - but a lot of cheap brands will use salt to keep them from spoiling quickly. It's poor quality from the handling company, not the crab's fault.
Brown crab is the best crab u can get. put it on a slice of white lofe not the cheep sweet version but a lofe with seeds on it add a good portion of mayonnaise on it a little lemon juice tiny amount then some pepper not much just a little and don’t cook the crab for more than 15-17 minutes in salty water about a 2 cups for a large pan of water.
