The last commenter has a point, grew up dirt poor & I was eating crab, lobster & shellfish like I was royalty growing up coz of my grandad who use to drown buckets of crabs every Friday morning to boil & dress them to sell through the weekend, he lived a spit away from the north sea in east Yorkshire & did it as a hobby to top up his pension money when he retired.
Plan to live as close to the coast as I can when I'm financially stable enough to move for the seafood alone 😂. I only live an hour & a half away now but the price & quality of seafood is shocking when I know what I can get being near a harbour.

I don't think they're soft shell crabs in the common sense of thinking. They're small and shells are thin enough for people to eat after a bit of chewing. They're about the hardness of eggshells which seems soft compared to other crabs. Still not very tasty.

The last crab is really common in rhe UK, its one of few that we have living in the seas around England. My grandad use to drown, boil & dress them every Friday to sell when I was a kid aswell as mussels, whelks & lobster so I grew up eating them all the time.
The brown meat is an aquired taste for sure! The claws & legs have white meat though similar to many other crabs but it's sparse compared to what you get in the head.
Imo the best way to eat them is dressed on their own or with something like a melba toast & butter or plain cracker coz the meat is so strong. The brown meat can be made I to a beautiful patè thogh if you ever get one again!

The issue with snow (also Alaskan King) crabs is how they're treated after catching. Good products are fresh and sweet - but a lot of cheap brands will use salt to keep them from spoiling quickly. It's poor quality from the handling company, not the crab's fault.

Brown crab is the best crab u can get. put it on a slice of white lofe not the cheep sweet version but a lofe with seeds on it add a good portion of mayonnaise on it a little lemon juice tiny amount then some pepper not much just a little and don’t cook the crab for more than 15-17 minutes in salty water about a 2 cups for a large pan of water. The best meat on them is inside the abdomen of the crab legs are second best then claws and if ur lucky there is som good food in the top housing that u can all mix together for the full experience. Pulling the claws of and eating it is the most boring way to eat crab sure it’s good to do with large king crab but for the price it’s not better a taste. I also fish my own brown crab the so I might be a little biased.

Hear me out. Brown crab is good with south eastern asian flavors like vietnamese nouc mam, or Cambodian "crack" sauce and some lettuce.

There's only 2 decent crabs: Blue crabs for crab cakes and Dungeonous to eat like a savage. All other crabs are inferior

You seriously put crab legs with mini fried crabs and a brown crab for comparison? Snow crab legs steemed or briefly heated in a low boil once the heat is off are very consistent. Much better then blue crabs price per lb .

Same the brown crab was supposed to be the highlight in the meal and wasn't all that great as for the Japanese crab it supposed to have a crunch served as bard snacks or one you buy at a 7-Eleven

It’s legal to eat female brown crab? I wonder if they taste different than males. You will never see a female Dungeness on the market. Massive fine for keeping even one
