I was looking at the “orange” one about ten months ago and considered buying it. I didn’t and I’m very grateful. I won’t mention Moto JackRack’s name either. When I was looking at them ten months back they wanted $500 for them. The price now is $650. What a total rip off. $150 increase in less than a year? That way outpaces inflation and they’ve made no changes to the design. Other reviewers have mentioned incomplete parts, parts the unstructured the closing mechanism and of course the tail gate issue. They won’t answer their phone either and won’t provide replacement of defective parts.
It is a shame that they don’t tighten up their design problems and actually stand by their product. Good customer service goes a long way. Thanks for watching!
If you get a 12" hitch extension that goes into your hitch you can get the clearance for your tailgate for the first hauler. They are $20. Also, it doesn't look like the second system allows for a second bike. Nice review!
I’ve run a 12” extension with it on my Jeep and it wobbles quite a bit because the extension doesn’t lock in tight like the bike carrier. My experience with the orange one is that though it claims to carry two bikes, it doesn’t, so neither do. Thanks for watching!
Your intro is insane and awesome at the same time. Has me scared sh@#less about ever riding my bike again😅. Nice review of the hauler. Pretty classy, not name dropping while bashing your old uint. You showed enough footage to let someone find out the manufacturer for themselves if they wanted too. Thanks for sharing your experiences
I do a ton of offroading and I see that the bottom of this thing drops 2 inches. That means I'm going to drag the hitch over rocks. Sometimes I drag my hitch receiver when nothing is in it. It's a PITA. This is a nice hitch though. Better than what I am currently using.
I have the drop version because my truck is pretty tall stock. They also make a straight version that would give you more clearance. I’ve used mine with my Jeep and it does sit pretty low, especially with a hitch extension to clear the spare tire. The straight one would be much better with a Jeep.
We used to call those loose lose your bike Carrier lol I had one on mine when I 1st bought my 6 day I must Have used about 7 straps and watched it in the camera the whole time lol
I wish you had made this video before I bought my hauler. It's from the brand you reviewed first, in orange. I went with them because they appeared to be the original, and it was made in USA. This switch hauler you showed appears made in USA. My MJR has issues you didn't run into, mainly the big bolt that holds the rack in the up position didn't line up, forcing me to clearance it. Otherwise, I agree with all the points you added. It's a bear to move and store. You'll want to take it off, so you can get the tailgate down, but it's so heavy and bulky there's nothing to do with it. Also, on my MJR the rear linkage of my bike keeps me from putting the bike in a position that works securely. I've considered modifying the frame, but I might sell it and get this other brand; it looks amazing.
I’m sorry to hear you’ve had problems with the “orange one” too. The Switch Hauler is made in America. If you’re interested in getting one, call them and speak with Ken. He will get you set up and on the waiting list. Thanks for commenting and watching!
How unfortunate you had to make the investment to learn about this inferior product, but thanks for passing on the info. Silver lining is that at least it was good enough to not ever dump the bike on the freeway! I might have to invest in one as to not punish my back - at least until I get on the bike then I can punish it...LOL! Great video brother and so savvy to not torpedo the company yet still warn others!
I’ve wasted my money on sillier things. Oh well. It didn’t feel right to throw them under the bus, we all should get the opportunity to learn and grow. Hope to ride with you soon! Glad you liked the vid, I hate being on camera.
Oh no… I’m supposed to be receiving my Modular Double on Monday after 6 months from order date. I was hoping it would be worth it but now I’m not so sure. The double was $1k so the switch hauler would save me some cash. I just really wanted the two bike functionality. I wonder if a higher rated jack would fit and solve the problem of lifting.
I’ll be putting one of these on the back of a Subaru Outback. I pull a small aluminum trailer usually with various dirt bikes and dual sports but when I’m only hauling the beta 300 I’d rather just use a carrier.
I'm a manufacturer of MX Hauler here in the Philippines I see to it that my haulers had a much lowered platform that you don't need to lift the bike unto it avoiding back injury if fortunate and I assure that it will be lifted high enough no to compromise the wheels during mobile... I called my haulers IRIS MX HAULER
I looked at these once but decided to haul in the back of the truck. How hard is it to get the bike onto he platform or does it lower enough to be under the bike? I like the set of crutches in the background, always prepared lol!
I have a Decked tool box, so hauling the bike in the truck bed isn’t an option. It depends on how you’re parked. Sometimes I don’t need to lift it at all, other times, it’s a little less than lifting the bike into a stand. Ha! You saw those huh? Wife sprained her ankle year ago, but the kids like playing with them so they are still taking up precious garage space.
You're very welcome! They are a smaller family business and make a great product! If you're interested in buy one, call and speak with Ken, he will get you set up with what you need!
Thanks for the info. I was looking at all three company’s that sell them. I’ll be going with the switch bc of the video. I have a 2022 f250 will the platform lower enough. Guess I could just lift bike on.
Hey Ben, glad you found this helpful. I have a 2018 GMC 2500 and loading the bike is very easy. It's no different than lifting the bike onto a bike stand. Thanks for watching!
Hmmm, I was gonna buy that dual moto jack rack to take 2 dual sports out and do the Moab White Rim Trail on the bikes with me and my girlfriend. Now I'm thinking I'll make the drive with my trailer instead even though it's a 22hr drive from Indiana
Not the way it comes, but you can run a hitch extension if your hitch is rated for it. I’ve got a buddy that runs a 24” extension on his overland van and it works great.
Hey there, couple questions. Can you use a locking hitch pin, or do you have to use the threaded bolt that comes with the hauler? Does the locking pin to hold the carrier in the loaded and lifted position also thread in? Or is it a bolt with a cotter pin?
The system is designed to use the threaded bolt, it helps with wobble. It also comes with something to lock it onto your hitch if you’re concerned with security. There are actually two threaded locking pins that keep the carrier in the loaded and lifted position. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!
I'm actually happy that I didn't include the prices, especially with our current inflation. I'm glad you enjoyed the review. I'm pretty sure both manufactures have good videos on loading. The "orange" one was broken, so I couldn't have done a loading comparison. Thanks for watching!
Can I lower the tailgate on my 2022 F350, WITH my ktm350 still affixed to the support platform while the platform is lowered all the way down? I want the ability to get into the back of truck (has topper on bed) at rest areas etc without completely removing the bike from the base. Looks like a well made hauler!
I don't think you will have the clearance with the bike on there in any position. I'm gonna play with it though and see if it's possible. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thanks Kevin. The platform is about 12”x18”. The version I have is the 3” drop, they also have a straight version. I’ve used mine on my 2500 GMC, RV, and wife’s 4Runner without issues.
@@BrokenEnduro do you think you can open the trunk of the 4runner with the straight tongue version or would the drop version be necessary to open the trunk?
As far as getting the job done, they are the same. Fit and finish is better on the Switch Hauler and the fact that it can easily become two parts is huge! Trust me, it's a pain to store as one piece.
@@BrokenEnduro did you ever consider the moto tote? What’s your take on that set up? I’m thinking about getting a nice open aluminum trailer but it’s a really hard decision between the three. Ideally I’d love a 5x8 enclosed but $$$$
