I have a a few DMT diamond stones in the bench mount size which are also "holed". I believe the blade filings do get somewhat held in the holes. A full diamond surface will hold more diamonds and can be flushed clean as you sharpen with a flow of water as you work. I believe it is a cost saving method of construction masquerading as an advantage. 👍 😃
I like your video and wanted to subscribe anyway but your rooster made me stop mowing the lawn in the middle and write this comment LOL. His timing is absolutely PERFECT!
A nice selection of sharpeners. I have an old Ez-Lap round model M diamond sharpener that I have had for over 40 years. That sharpener is an awesome sharpener for out in the field. When skinning and field dressing big game such as moose and caribou, it only takes a few quick strokes on that sharpener followed by a few quick strokes on a honing steel to produce a very sharp knife. I also have the same DMT Diafold sharpener that you have and also like it but prefer the Ez-Lap for in-the-field quick touch-ups.
Thanks for the honest and useful review. I find that often reviews on other channels are influenced by the manufacturer of the product. I always know that I can trust your opinions. Thanks for another great video !
I like the Work Sharp because you can buy replacement plates. It also has storage space under the plates and wrenches for broad head arrows. And, you can remove the ceramic rod for cleaning by tapping out a drift pin.
I'm a chef and I use my Work Sharp in the kitchen and out the in the bush for my axe, parang and bushlore. It's a great piece of kit that has more than paid for it's self. Love your work brother, great as usual 🤙🏽👍🏽
Nice video, especially those microscope pictures! i got the DC4 an I mostly use the ceramic side only and the leathersheat as a strop.. got some chrome oxid compound on it.
My favourite: Worksharp Guided Field Sharpener. It is mid-range & 'mid-price'. Has all the features you need in a small enough package. Even Ken Onion agrees.
I agree with you, I haven't had any clogging issues with diamond sharpeners either. I've got one of those worksharp field sharpeners, I carry it with me to work so I can touch up my knife whenever I need to. It rides along in my hunting pack too. Thanks for the great video, Felix!
Your rooster is in total sync, Felix, congrats, that's obviously a well trained background singer ;-) I have many diamond sharpeners, from cheapest Chinese ones to the more costly ones, and I would say all are doing fine, more or less. The cheap Chinese ones usually loose the connection between the sharpener grid (that 50% holes thing) and the plastic under it very fast - what makes them then nice thin and ultralight and such very good for transport 😁😁😁 My main sharpeners at home are one old one from Smiths and a piece from Felco, on tour I like the Felco (again) and the Victorinox, and usually I also have some of the broken Chinese ones on board. The others I use how it comes, sometimes I do not even use them as sharpeners but as fine file ... 😁 That great piece of Felco (Felco 903) is meant as diamond sharpener for gardening tools like secateurs and has kind of an oval geometry what makes it also absolutely ideal for sharpening billhooks or the billhook-like formed small blade of the Victorinox Farmer etc.. - I never could really sharpen them as I wanted with all these rectangular sharpening stones or diamond pads but feel very comfy using the 903 for that purpose. And of course one can use it also to sharpen ordinary Victorinox, Mora oder Opinel blades. Best wishes and greetings from India, Robert
I've been using the victorinox dual knife sharpener for many years now and it's a great little bit of kit but I've yet to try this victorinox diamond sharpener out but I'm very happy with the victorinox dual knife sharpener👌 please do a full video on sharpening Swiss army knives please if it's possible thanks my friend👍
I just bought a Victorinox sharpener based on this recommendation. Its basically a large, silky smooth, diamond nail file, that eats 1095 high carbon steel. Im impressed. A few light passes gets a dull blade cutting again, and its light but strong. You could tape this onto the side of a Mora sheath and not even notice its there. Thank you
I love the Chickens going off :) Excellent video thank you, I have the DC4 and agree it's a better size than the DC3. I also have the DMT Diafold but for some reason prefer the DC4. Either way I'm pleased that I have 50% of your favourite sharpening tools. I would very much appreciate a how to sharpen your main blade video. Many thanks Gray
I've used the Worksharp for a while now. It's a great too and a handy size and I have no complaints about it, has 20 degree guides for the diamond plate, but it also has guides for the ceramic rod and for the leather strap. You can't ask for much more. Plus, the diamond plates are removable for cleaning, should the get "clogged". Which I've not had to do yet even after a couple of years of use :)
Good video! Like you I like the Work Sharp Field Sharpener. It has everything you need and more. I can remove arrow heads with the key under the diamond plates. A very diverse system.
Hi Felix, look into a Hewlett diamond plate sharpener, it's a tiny bit bigger than the falkniven short stone but has 600 grit on one side and 1300grit on the other. A comment below mentioned an EZ-LAP Model M, I've also had mine for about 35 years and still going strong. They also make diamond plate sharpeners that are far superior to DMT
Fällkniven is my favorite! Carry it in my pocket as an edc. The fieldsharpener is also very very good. I use that on my tabletop. All quality. Easy to use for new freehand sharpeners. Dc3 is big enough. Just be relaxed and concentrate on what your doing. Nice and slow. CC4 doesn't carry as easy as a edc.
I honestly didn't know that there's a smaller version of the dc4 and cc4 🤣. That's true, they are a little bit bigger, but I carry them inside a pocket organizer in my cargo pockets or in my backpack/haversack. I drop it very rarely directly in my pocket, but now that I know about the dc3 I don't need to 😆
Thanks Felix for another lesson. I’ve never used any of those products. The only the sharpening stone that came with the Victorinox SOS Kit to sharpen my SAKs. I’m sure it’s not as good as any of what you have in front of you but it’s worked fine over the years.
Thank you so much for this wonderful compliment. I visited your webside. Wowwww, i like your custom knives. Unfortunately, your city is not right around the corner 😁😁😁
Though not a diamond sharpener, the Spyderco double stuff works great in the field on SAK steel and quickly brings the blade from dull to near-shaving quickly. If you prefer diamond, I also like the DMT credit card sharpeners. I bought a 3pack of various grits about 15 years ago and they’re still going strong
I have EDCed the worksharp for several years. Works wonderfully. I flip the slabs over so that the diamond sides are facing inward, protecting them from damage will not in use.
Never had the DMT Dia Fold, but I have the EZ-Lap Dia Fold which has the whole surface coated on both sides I prefer that type of tool on my axes and small hatches using it as a file. The ones that always go with me on trips to the forest are the Worksharp Field Sharpener, It's just so convenient for my use and I always got one in my backpack.
The Victorinox diamond sharpener is my number one gift. I own three of them, the oldest is nearly six years in use and lost a bit of its aggressivity, but its very good for a fine adjustment of the blade before stropping. I used it to sharpen axes, chisels, knifes and blades for planes... The first days of use this thing is very aggressive but fine at the same time.
Felix ! I agree with you I rather have a diamond sharpener that contains more diamonds in the sharpener than less great 👍 Video as always I learn a lot !

I have been carrying and using the dc4 for over 2 years now. It takes a bit of time to break in so it won't be so rough any more, but besides that I've been very happy with it, also it's pretty slim profile 8n your pocket
Excellent review and comparison! It's a shame Victorinox didn't put a finer grit on one of the faces, it would have been an amazing choice. Did you think of gluing leather strips on the Diafold's handles for stropping? Making a thin, long plastic frame doubling as a handle (with glued leather strops) for the DC4 could be a nice DIY project...
Not an expert in sharpening but having Victorinox, Leatherman and Moras. I bought the work sharp field sharpener before and test it and it is working really good. Quality price is good and you have few sharpening materials. I even sharpen the top of my Mora in order to use it as a scrapper, striker for the ferro rod and it worked pretty fast and clean! Thanks Félix for validating my choice. Continue with the pedagogical videos, Mcgyver style ;)
Great video. I love your chanel. You are Master Yoda of Victorinox. :) Work Sharp have additional feature. Diamond plates are magnetic mounted so you always have a strong magnet with you. Also there is empty space under it which may be used as storage.

@@bangalorebobbel I just do all my sharpening here at home but the Smiths is compact enough so it'd travel well. It sure has been a good one and still is.
@@lewiemcneely9143 yes it is compact but little bit on the heavy side compared to light weights like e.g. the Victorinox. And since some while I try to minimize weight when I am going out ... I guess I become old and lazy or so ;-) At home I like it very much, that handle can also be used for a fast first stropping instead of using a leather, not exactly as perfect as leather but quite ok for a compromise if I am too lazy to go in and get me the leather ;-)
My favourite pocket sharpener is the Spyderco CBN/Ceramic Double Stuff. The CBN side is course enough to do the heavy grinding, and the ceramic gives a shaving sharp edge. Add a little stropping compound to the leather pouch and you have a makeshift paddle strop. Also, the sides are angled and radiused so you could touch up serrations. Basically it's got almost everything the Worksharp does save the angle guides and built-in strop. It _is_ a bit pricy though.
Here's the thing, as with everything, there's bound to be an optimum diamond density for each grit size that provides a good balance between metal removal and pore clogging. Unfortunately most marketing departments don't speak engineer, so when the development team tries to explain that part, it's swiftly ignored.
Hi Felix , I have the DC3 and the DC4 the 3 for in the field and the 4 for at home. Awesome sharpener. Nice review I think I buy the worksharp for home usage now. Thanks Felix
Sorry for the necro post but Felix is right. The Victorinox knife sharpener is insane. I am bad at knife sharpening but a few GENTLE swipes brings the edge back. Its fairly small, at a fine grit, but it EATS metal. I have mine strapped to my Kabar because a few strokes brings it right back to rope-cutting-sharp. At the end of the day its about the diamonds and how well embedded they are in the sharpener, and how much density there is. Fancy kit is fancy, but the Victorinox has the best diamond layer, with the most diamonds, and that is why a few gentle strokes sharpens the knife.
Great tips. I have the DC4, but don't carry it in the field. In the field, I have a Spyderco double stuff in the pocket for touching up the knife. I would like to see your review of pocket carry non-diamond sharpeners. Cheers.
I agree with the rooster, the Worksharp is my favorite too.

Cheers.
DMT Makes much better continuous surface plates but work sharp is the best of the bunch.
I have the cc4 and the leather pouch it comes in the rough side can be used as a strop.
Super hint. Thanks a lot James!
I have the worksharp field sharpener but I use the DC4 and CC4 more.
Excellent video Sir!!
Thank you kindly!
Use mostly the dc4 myself, great video Felix
Perfekt!!
I use common found flat stones to sharpen my knife on the go and outdoors.
Wowww, that's cool.
I recently got the Worksharp and the 20 degree guide helps alot. Also a 25 Im thinking for heavier knives with thicker blades.
Thanks a lot for your feedback!
Thanks for the honesty. I agree that you pay for the diamonds.
