When Anytone was looking for suggestions for features to add to their new radio (the 890) I suggested they add the satellite feature like in the open gd 77 radios.... SOOOO happy they actually added it to the 878
Crikey, an already a good radio made even better.... Would like to see this is use before I brick my own!!! Hi hi I have seen the posts on FB. Thanks for this Chris, also Norman too.
Wow chris this is great. Shame ive never done any satellite work plus my anytone will be covered in thick dust not used it for over a year. Its in a draw with the pi hotspot. Think mine has a light blue button. Lol Great work 👍🏽
@@digitalanaloguehamradio No I don't. I'm not really much of a sat guy but I forwarded this to a friend who is. He's got this radio so maybe he'll get it configured. He also asked me when Icom or Yaesu would come out with their version of this since a lot of their HT's have GPS. I told him sadly I doubt they ever will.
@@hamradiotube and that is a bloody shame. I wish they would. Both the FT3D and the FT5D along with the kenwood 74 & 75 would be a game changer. Elk or Arrow antenna for sats. I love the 878, it's durable (not so much a fan of DMR) but the selectivity and sensitivity leave something to be desired. I wish Icom, Yaesu and Kenwood would pick up on this. My 2 cents for what it's worth.
Hi Robert, it’s in the video. and it’s in the instructions on the screen it’s in the tool section. You upload it to the radio in the same way you would load channels.
Excellent. I have the 878 UV blue button and will give this a try. By the way Chris, i could do with a codeplug and you seem to have a comprehensive one on yours. Any chance of a link to download it so i can try it on mine. Cheers.
So you would have to "update" the radio at least every week. The Keplars it uses will be out of date by the time you get the Keplars email from the ARRL. But otherwise - cool as all get out!
Hi, mate. I have counted fifty seven passes in the list spanning over two days. But this is including many different satellites. If it was just space station, it might last several weeks.
Please look in the description of the video. I have posted a link there also watch the video for compatible models on the left-hand side. Thanks for watching.

That's awesome Chris. I am switching from the FT-3D to the Anytone 878 for my satellite radio now.
The satellite predictions are slightly out. I will keep you guys posted with more videos thanks

Yes mate it's an excellent feature. There's not much you can actually add to this radio, it's feature packed.

Absolutely amazing Chris! I want one woohooo. Awesome stuff mate.

Thats great 👌 My 878UV+ takes forever to get a sattelite lock so not something Ill use but still verry interesting thank you for sharing 😀👍
Thanks for watching, mate
This looks fantastic Chris! It's just a shame it doesn't work on the 868. Maybe I need to upgrade to the 878 😉
It's an amazing radio, I did write the new firmware today on my radio and its great
Nice one roger. Glad you're got it working okay
Thanks for this, just upgraded the firmware it works great!
Hey, that’s great mate. Make sure you are subscribed I have updates coming out on the feature soon.
Wow what a game changer! I need one!
Thats what I said about 2.5 years ago now mine is in a draw somewhere lol when I thought it was a great idea to use it with a hotspot 😁 73
Thanks mate. It’s awesome.

Very cool Chris thanks!
Cheers mate, it looks very promising. The passes are a bit out, but they will fix that
That is awesome!
Have you got one Mike?

Where did you get the Keplerian data and frequencies formated for loading? How did you load them into the CPS? Thanks

it was a software update? not a factory add on?
I have seen the Anytone without GPS it package deals, or now for $199
Yes it is a firmware update. It works on all 878 models.I believe
Chris, I have a blue button one, it's on there 🙂
Good info, thanks
Do You Need a License to Operate a Satellite Radio like this like for Sample Technician, Advance General?
A license is required to transmit. No licences required to receive

@@digitalanaloguehamradio Hi Chris, the 2E0UK isn't recognised by QRZ and the M6BIU address isn't working. Cheers.

I believe you would have to reconnect it to the computer every few days. In the list of passes it shows 57 spanning over two days.
How often do you think you would have to plug it back in to the computer and re-download the kep files?

How do you adjust trasnmit power while in this menu?
I don't think it's available in that menu. It's in the normal menu settings channel set
