  • I finally got myself a real Poly-AT controller in the form of an Ensoniq TS-10.
The Poly-AT of this particular one is very hard to play. So I'm still hoping for better Poly-AT to hit the market. But it's a lot of fun to play.
The Poly-AT makes the Synth shine through the Rhodes when the pressure is applied. I'm also using my almost finished SE80-prototype controller to change the pressure response from the Novation Peak. All in all it makes for some crazy landscapes.

Thank you. I see you play Keith Jarrett. That's so cool. Keith's improvisations are a big inspiration for me.

My tips: Try to get your hands on a GEM S2/S3 or an Elka MK 55/88. All have excellent poly AT reponses. The GEM's have a great synthesizer inside and reacts to aftertocuh with higher then MIDI resolution. It's programming interface is however VERY cryptic. The Elka's are only master keyboars but you can't get much better then the MK 88 with it's full piano range. Nowadays it is my main poly AT keyboard. You can of course also save for a Hydrasynth but it only has 4 octaves and since you have already taken care of almost all your other needs that might be a step you do not want to take. It does however combine a wavetable engine with CS80 style control so it's basically a CS80 and a PPG Wave put in one single box. No laughing matter at all!. :-)

Yes... the Hydrasynth has an annoyingly low amount of octaves. Else it'd be sitting in my room right now. I'm still hoping to see one in a store one day to try it out. I'm curious about the vintage gear you mentioned. But I'd really have to test them properly this time. I bought that TS-10 on a whim, and it's not very good.

@@skrie I used both the S3 and the MK88 as keybaord controllers to my full satisfaction. I rarely used the S3 as a synth. It can however do an impressive take on Vangelis style CS80 brass. You can have a listen to that this project: www.brassee.com/electronicmusic.html#zamisdat (see liner notes). I'd love to hear what you think of my music anyway! The first project on which I used the MK 88 is not yet on my website (soon!) but I think its feel is even better! I haven't tried the Hydrasynth yet but I am quite sure it is a safe bet.

@@marcbrasse747 You have a very rich sound. And a real CS80 I see too. You lucky man.

@@skrie Thank you. I have however not used the CS80 in years. It was in dire need of a lot of maintanance. A few months back I recapped the power supply which made me confident enough to start it up again at last. It is does however still miss an oscillator and needs an overall tune up. So don't be too yealous. A CS80 is a temperamental beast and one is always affraid of it packing up for good. The most important thing is what you learn from it's sonic concpt and you seem to have nailed that very well. My compliments. It's often as if Vangelis himself is playing through your fingers. If he wasn't still alive I would think he has been reïncarnated. :-)

Yea, I've heard about the reliability issues of the CS80. I don't really need to have one. But I still hope to play one sometime.... One that works. I've used all the plugins, that the closest I've come. I've never even seen one. As for my Vangelishood... I've tried too hard to be Vangelis I think. But I feel more connected to the universe because of listening to Vangelis and trying to improvise in the moment more.
