    His Wizards days pretty much prove of having no issue with Zone defense. MJ once stated he would never had same NBa achievements if Zone was in NBA, but he was referring to real Zone like college and with hand checking, not with not true Zone in today's game due to 3 second rule, no hand checking and spacing. Early 2000 Zone was implemented and handchecking was still present, and an old MJ had no issue with it.. Wizard MJ is underrated for sure ..

      There was a lot of fear going into the first season that he wouldn't be able to play at a high level, that we wouldn't get to witness the old magic moments. But he provided plenty of them. The Wizards were on an absolute tear before his injury and there was a lot of excitement. He didn't end up missing a ton of games but the knee was still a lingering issue all year and I remember him having to get it drained all the time over the next year. It's a shame what happened because after that game against Indiana when he put up 6 points, things turned around in a BIG way for that team. Somehow they were winning night in and night out, and the "somehow" was Michael Jordan still being MJ.

  • @skatershaner
    @skatershaner 4 роки тому +77

    In my opinion, this video is what solidifies MJ as the GOAT. He proved that he could dominate in today's NBA, and also had the longevity produce for many more years after the 98 season. If he didn't retire twice in the 90s, he'd also probably be the all time points leader, and hold many of the playoff totals records that Lebron currently holds.
    While Lebron may end up with the greatest career of all time, MJ is the greatest player of all time.

    When MJ would put up those 40-50 point games with the Wizards, it was almost enough to make you cry. At his age and coming off a few years of retirement, it was amazing to watch. It was this nearly 40 year old guy who was literally not just A living legend but THE living legend. When he had randomly had those games where he looked 5 years younger, it was unreal. The guy was far past the peak of his powers but he was still able to do incredible things against people half his age.

    Thank you so much for making this video. I learned a lot. It gets so tiresome hearing people discredit him when he WAS producing remarkably irregardless of his age. The fact is he set the bar so high it was unreachable. And as we have seen in the last dance documentary, they build you up to break you down. They look for any reason to say "he's not that good." Jordan showed that his entire career. Had a few bumps along the way but until there comes another player to perform as well as he did at that age, I don't want to hear the judgements. When you age you get slower. Overall athletically you deteriorate. You need longer recovery times, and you're more susceptible to injury. Maybe it's the fact that Jordan was almost superhuman that people feel the need to hold him to the high standards he set in the prime of his career. But if you have half a brain, and look at the numbers and be honest with yourself, he did not tarnish his reputation or ruin any perfect ending. He played until he couldn't any longer and as he did his entire career, he gave it all.

    • @MrDavidKord
      @MrDavidKord 4 роки тому +13

      There's clearly so much more to it than just the numbers he produced, too. The sheer improvement in both offensive and defensive ranking due to his presence was STAGGERING. CLEARLY the team around him elevated their games when he was on the court. He didn't just carry them with scores, steals, assists, and blocks, he carried their mentality from trash all the way up to a playoff level, possibly championship level. Insanity.
      On that note, I would have loved to see him and Pipp on the Blazers take on Kobe and Shaq on the Lakers. Phil would have a couple less championships.

      Sorry, that's only true from a marketing perspective. Other than that you can't make that comparison. Both guys dominated, both guys dominated in a rather low-scoring era - and Gretzky came out on top being further ahead his competition. He was a genius thinking the game who elevated his teammates while Jordan was more of the amazing two-way player, gifted athlete and ultra-competitor. Apples and oranges but given Gretzky's physical disadvantages and bigger statistical dominance you certainly can only make that statement based on global image and impact, not based on dominance within their respective sports.

    Unparalleled Greatness! MJ could have played in any Era, against anyone, Period!
    Some say they don't believe in G.O.A.T. conversation.
    There is some merit to points that they make when you factor in players positions 1 - 5, their proposed responsibilities while on the floor and their individual achievements.
    But when you watch this guy, when you see the way defense was played back in the day when OG's like myself were coming up;
    I mean you're talking about meniscus tares, arthritis, ribs and other physical issues he had that we're unaware of, his Overall Complete Body Of Work, from the start of his career to the end of it, "Seriously, What Other Conclusion Can Your Draw"?
    This is to me, the one single Athelete who's whole body of work while playing basketball won't and will never be duplicated!
    Some of his records, yes, they'll be broken, but if that happens the player that does will have played longer and against much, MUCH Softer defenses if we're talking about offensive accomplishments.
    Also, think about other Great Players who are considered Elite, not only in Basketball, but in all Sports!🤔 And what they've said about him, in reference to their measuring their standards to his!
    Based on their commentary, Is There Any Doubt?
    He was and still is "The Gold Standard", when it comes to those before him, his peers, those he played with and against, and you certainly can't compare ANYONE who's playing now to him, and remember, "I'm Talking About His Whole Body Of Work", not just a certain category.
    So for me, there is such a thing as "G.O.A.T. Conversation. MJ's the guy!!!!!
    I also appreciate another very important point that was expressed in this Video!
    "THAT WAS, MICHAEL JORDAN PLAYING FOR THE WASHINGTON WIZARDS FOR FREE, DONATING HIS CONTRACT EARNINGS TO THE 911 VICTIMS!!!!!
    It's been said that away from the game, there's a lot more that he should have done, but what you don't realize is, he's done some really Tremendously Incredible things for the City Of Chicago, for The State of Carolina, from disaster relief, to impoverished inner city youth, and all other different types of charities!
    I applaud his efforts because those are things he's done, behind the scenes, not wanting any publicity, or self acclaim for, and even though there are those who have publicly said he doesn't do enough, he, "Being The Class Act That He Is", isn't foolish enough to be baited into coming out and telling everyone what he's done or his past deeds during his playing days, just to shut up a few naysayers!
    All of the many who have benefited I think is all that's important to him and in a way, I credit his first wife with probably helping him to see things from the common perspective, not that he couldn't on his own, but our wives help us to see and recognize and do things, giving us insight from a woman's perspective.
    Excellent Video 👍 my friend! You got yourself a new subscriber today.

      I was even hearing about huge contributions to charities as far back as the late 80's when there was this narrative out about him that Nike had him completely under their control, which to me was totally false, considering what other friends and family were telling me who still live/reside in the city.
      Just because there are causes and unforeseen circumstances that happen to people, that doesn't mean the media and other outlets are ALL KNOWING when it comes to high profile sports figures and what they do with their time, money and resources!
      There are an awful lot of Atheletes from all sports that do wonderful things around the world as you said, but don't want it publisized.
      That's their right.
      Media however, feels that what they do should be up for public scrutiny which is wrong, as if they're the ones who have a right to tell them wether what they're doing is for the right cause or wether it's just or appropriate, when in fact, they don't have any business or involvement with telling them anything.
      Those that do should instead, worry about their own contributions that they can make to help others, but this just shows what kind of world we live in and how so many feel as though they have a right to judge what you do with the resources you have.
      If you or I were in their shoes, we wouldn't want to be questioned either.
      Everyone is given the choice to pursue a career and for those that made it to the highest level of a profession, they should have a right to help who they choose and either, let it be known, or keep it to themselves.
      Their Right, Their Choice!!!

      We also know why certain celebs/atheletes let what they do get covered.
      Sometimes it comes down to things as simple and immature as bragging rights or one upping someone else who's giving of his or her self.
      The media, then gets hold of the selfish way or action and dragraces with it until it becomes unimportant to the public, then they drop it and move on to something else.
      Sometime the media attention does bring awareness, so that others can act and contribute, but in most cases wether it's news outlets or social media, they have agendas as well.
      It seems that no one stops to think that maybe those who are dealing with something incurable or life threatening or having their life altered by a natural disasters of some sort, would like their privacy to be respected, especially when it involves children.
      You chalk it all up to, personal triumphs and tragedy's, and how sometimes the roll you play on the outside looking in doesn't always bring the desired outcome, or the effect you hoped it would when the media gets hold of it; Them and their many hidden ulterior motives...
      That's why I respect MJ and the many other Atheletes 💯% for their keeping things low profile and under the radar, knowing it's not all about them, but what the acts of kindness could do to the privacy of the individuals benefitting.

    Great breakdown! Growing up in Chicagoland being born in 81', I am so blessed to have been of age when Jordan was making his Finals appearances with our Bulls... It's easy for me to see the impact he had in Washington because we were so accustomed to MJ doing amazing things. But younger people, who didn't get to see him live on WGN for every game - and have only seen highlight videos on UA-cam - buy into what THEY SEE today and what the media talking heads try to spin about "Lebron passing Jordan". It's absurd! LeSwept isn't even in my top 5 all-time NBA players.... Hell, he's not even the GOAT at his POSITION, how the heck is he the "greatest who ever played"?
    I get it. The NBA can't admit that the game they're trying to promote to sell tickets and television rights for isn't nearly as good as it was 2 decades ago. That's not going to grow the league or sell tickets... So they push this "greatest ever Lebron James" crap and try to tear down Jordan every way they can. Even this talk about "Jordan never facing teams as good as Golden State" nonsense - go look up the stats for the 93' Phoenix Suns... They are nearly identical (if not better than GSW) and had Dan Majerle draining 35 footers WAY before Curry. No disrespect to Steph, he's a future Hall Of Famer, but people need to look up "Thunder Dan" Majerle before thinking Steph Curry invented the deep-three!
    Jordan beat SEVEN 60+ win teams and TWENTY 50+ win teams.
    27 out of 37 of his playoff opponents were 50 win teams...
    while Lebron faced - out of 37 - EIGHTEEN teams with UNDER 50 wins.
    Sorry Lebron James fans, but the truth is Lebron James always had more help, played in a weak conference, and faced less talented teams than Jordan did.

Jordan was great in Chi. If you wanna make the case for him being the best to ever do it, cool, but don't dedend his time in Was. He took too many shots and on too many occasions shot them out of games. It's ok, he isn't some God.

    Many were calling MJ the G.O.A.T. before he even wore a Chicago Bulls uniform. There's another video on UA-cam that talks about his run in the 1984 Olympics. He led a bunch of college players to an 8-0 record over the U.S. team was full of professional NBA players and all of them were All-stars. That team had Bird, Magic, Isaiah and a slew of other all time greats who were IN THEIR PRIME but our Olympic college team had Michael Jordan! The pro players couldn't win one game against him and his college squad led by Bobby Knight. Just let that sink in for a while.

    WELL SAID! I have always wondered why people love to dismiss the Wizards years so much (MJ included actually!) It really was incredible to watch, not always compared to the CHI MJ, but to the rest of the L he was more than holding his own! I just wish we got to see Wizards MJ in a playoff run. Mike always elevated his game in playoffs, and have no doubt he would have done the same again!

    Excellent video. Not sure why the Jordan vs LeBron debate always comes up. Jordan is flat out the GOAT. If you watched him play there is no debate. The level of control and dominance over the game was insane. You can damn near feel chills when Mike played when he was in the ZONE. Some players you do when they get in the Zone, but for Mike it was like every 3 games.....how are you sick enough to say the hoop looks like a giant bucket and I can't seem to miss. I mean 69 in the Boston....6 threes in a row....epic perfomances in the Madison Square including the double nickel...get out of here. Dude played the passing lanes like he was the freakin BLACK PANTHER aka Black Cat. They say LeBron is faster ha ha ha well look at Mike's highlights on the fast break....dude is coasting and smoking fools...even leaving them out of the frame. To play passing lanes you have to be quick and fast....they say Lebron is strong well in an ERA well there are barely any centers or true power forwards ehhhh I beg to differ. There are a lot of wimps nowadays like Durant who probably had a daily diet of poptarts. Im 6'1 215 and if I get a head of steam like LeBron does I'm MOWING fools over too. Don't be fooled smh if you are at a stand still how are you going to stop someone with a full head of steam you are going to bounce off of them. Don't be fooled about physical appearance and size. You can be strong as hell and not be the biggest guy in the gym. I was able to outlift guys twice my size and still get busy in the gym. Kobe even said he was shocked how physically strong Mike was. He swatted Kobe away like a fly which is why Kobe knew he needed to get stronger....secondly, look at all of Mike's finishes with and 1's his sheer strength to get the ball up after the contact was superior people look at is as hightlights but it displays his raw strength. Enough said dude is the GOAT with respect to the timers of their ERA but what I witnessed I havent seen anything close. Giannis is scary though......he gets a Jumper and it is night night for some of these cats. He has another gear too trust me and one mental hurdle he needs to get over first similar to LeBron kind of, but when he does ha ha ha if he stays healthy he will be a problem.

      People who were't around to see Micheal Jordan play in his prime will never fully understand how incredible and legendary he was. Every person lucky enough to witness him playing out his career as a Chicago Bull knows that to this day no basketball player has even come close to achieving the greatness that Micheal had done back in the 90's and that we will most likely never see another player rise to the occasion like that in our lifetime. Kobe Bryant might be the exception to that but definitely not Lebron James and before anyone points to the overall career stats you need to realize that its not always about statistics. Most Jame's fans always point this comparison out but there's reason why Jordan is still called the greatest basketball player of all time and part of that reason is because of how he played the game and how he lead his team to victory.

    Imagine if he had never-ever retired until 03 and either followed Scottie to the Blazers or kept him in Chicago. That's the thing about Jordan's dominace, he was so good he basically got bored of the game. Even if you think the first retirement was due to gambling or his father, he was DEFINITELY bored on the second. I think it's a legitimate question whether Shaq and Kobe even would have ate until 2002. As the video says, Jordan was a superstar player even by the standards of the 2000's. Had he been willing to take a pay cut, he and Scottie could have kept going for 4 or 5 more years, and maybe more than that.
