But what if I told you that the Last Dance isn't the end of the Michael Jordan story? The Encore Documentary is a dive into the real ending to Jordan's career, including his comeback from retirement for a third time, and his last two seasons with the Washington Wizards. These years are often brushed aside as the forgotten ending to MJ's legacy, but by choosing to ignore the final chapter, you might miss out on one of the things that made Jordan so special in the first place...

At age of 40, with bad knees, he still played all 82 games. How many players today play 82 games? He played for the love of the game, for the fans, to show he can still play better than most of the league. It doesn’t diminish his legacy because he accomplished everything he’s known for in his first 13 years. The scoring titles, the steals titles, the playoff scoring record, the DPOY, MVP, and Scoring title in the same season. If anything the only thing the last 2 years did was show how well he would have done in the 2000s in his prime. Man was getting a bunch of 40 plus point games 7 months before Lebron played his first game lol.

Not that athletes stop being competitive in other ways, it’s just that they aren’t able to do it at the highest level of their sport. I don’t think you can dispute that.

As a Wizards fan, this was great to watch. You did a great job. I remember me as an 11 or 12 year old kid begging my dad to get tickets so we could go see Jordan play. I had my Wiz Jordan jersey and I remember how electric the crowd was. Good memories and thank you for bringing me back.

This was me too!! I saw his last game and was so excited. He scored 15 too I believe which is all you can ask for. Legit at 10 years old! Had the jersey and everything. I miss the old wizard Jerseys and logo, the blue and gold was nice looking. I hate how generic all the logos are now. It’s legit just a basketball for every other team now and all rebranded. Rip.

The most smoothest and theatrical NBA player ever. He elevated the style of play.Charismatic by nature. So many wished they were Mike in the 90s. Definitely had smooth swag.People that did not like basketball still watched him play to watch the MJ show. He was really on another level for that era.

Technically, The Last Dance was supposed to be about the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls, not just Michael Jordan.
I actually would have liked to hear more about the team and the other players, but considering the greatness of Michael Jordan, it's hard not to make it all about him.

Of course he did. His team sucked, he had the coach in his pocket and forced all the plays to converge on him. If you're your own coaches boss you pretty much get whatever plays you want, and however many plays you want, drawn up for you.

He can have the coach in his pocket, he can force all the offense through himself and he can give himself all the minutes he wants. But the main factor is that with all that he was still going against guys younger than him and he had to perform. You can't just negate what he did because you simply say, they forced the offense through him and he was the boss of the coach. So, what if he bricked every shot or got bodied whenever he drove to the basket. No way would he be able justify to his team, the coach or the NBA fans that it should continue. The dude was still producing at a super high level for anyone in the NBA. GTFOH.
Toua Xiong if Jordan had not gone with that knee injury they were on a 14 game win streak sitting on top of the Lakers on the ladder and would have been the number 1 or 2 seed going into the playoffs i reckon he would have taken them all the way and win the NBA finals you never right of the goat
I remember growing up in chicagoland as a kid. Just walking down the stairs and opening the door to the garage and seeing the whole neighborhood in my garage, eyes glued to the the tiniest lowest res t.v. of the 90s Watching Michael. Something ill never forget

People forget, the Wizards had gone 24-12 after their bad start and MJ had a 25.1/6.2/5.3 stat line with almost two stocks (steals + blocks) a game. They were 26-21 after the Kings game where he hurt his knee. The 4th seed in the Eastern Conference. True story. They were a playoff team with 38 year old MJ as their best player. Then he got hurt and they bottomed out, finishing 9-24 with Jordan only playing in 14 more games. Such a shame because he had played GREAT in January. You could see he was getting his game legs back.

Jordan understood that someone came to see him play that day that has been wanting to see him play maybe for 10 20 years. Or even while he played he wanted to make sure that person that finally got to see him play went home with a smile on their face. In a world of me me me. That's just an awesome character trait to have as a very popular individual.
I like that he returned one last time to play for the wizards. I was born in 1993, so I don’t remember too much about watching him play on the bulls. But I do remember watching some of the games when he played for the wizards. He was obviously not in his prime anymore, but he was just as competitive and dominant as he always had been. He was still fun to watch.
This literally made me tear up. And I'm only 22 so I never witnessed him live. But he's the undeniable goat and just seeing highlights of him still amazes me.

I'm from UK and an Orlando magic fan. I feel so so lucky that on holiday to orlando I got to see the magic vs Bulls with MJ in the team. Though funny enough it wasn't MJ I was there to see. I came for Shaq but the man was traded to Lakers and that's when penny Hardaway got the spotlight. I recall MJ hitting about 30 odd points and the Magic got whupped .
Seeing him live was like no other. The only player I've ever seen that could TAKE over the entire game over and over. I've seen lebron do it a couple of times. But Jordan would literally Take OVER on defense and offense. The best highlights of that type of play you could look up is where they played the Grizzlies when they were Vancouver Grizzlies. He scored the last like 12-15 points in a row and made the comeback and won the game. Also the 63 pt Celtic game in 86 I think. And the Knicks (several Knicks games) but theres one where he was blocking on one end scoring on the other he completely took Over like no one else was around. Thats why the generation that watched BOTH play almost always say Jordan over Lebron. If I only saw lebron play I would think or say hes the best I've ever seen. But nope. Theres another. The original 23. Look up.some of the full games on youtube like the knicks 55 point game..unbelieveable.
Thats what happens. Yall learn about him through highlights and don’t know the whole story. It creates a really biased point of view. You only see him in his best light then you argue about a guy you never watched play. Media and endorsements loved him so you will only have his 6 years shoved down your throat. You will believe he never passed or missed a game winning shot. Its sad they make it like he was a god when he wasn’t.
I really didn't appreciate how amazing his comeback was until I myself got older. I was 20-22 years old and grew up hating Jordan. So I was, well, less than excited to see him playing again. Yeah he was the greatest, but I was always pulling for the teams the Bulls would ALWAYS beat. I'm more impressed with his performance from 2001-03 than his last two title runs against Utah. Anyone under 35, the LeBron debate is more ridiculous than you'll ever know. It's Jordan. And it's not even close.

Along with all of his other records and accomplishments that make him the undisputed GOAT is the fact that he was the only player in NBA history of age 40 or older to score more than 40 points in a game. A 40 year old MJ scored 43 points in 43 minutes on 18/30 from the field and 7/7 from the line against the Nets. The old man also added 10 rebounds, 4 steals and a blocked shot - as a 40 year old SG coming off of a knee surgery. Go ahead and let that one sink in for a minute.

They were 26-21 as of that point in time and the 38 year old Jordan was one of only two players in the NBA to be averaging more than 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. The other was Kobe Bryant. The year before Jordan joined the team, they were 19-63. That's a 38 year old SG coming out of retirement to bring them more wins by the All Star break than they had the entire season before that while putting up MVP numbers.

I believe that Mikes return to basketball to the Wizards was a true testament to just how amazing of a player he was. To be 40 and still scoring like he did and being still one of the best players is simply amazing and it was great seeing him play again. To watch him play the game was true beauty and I’ve never seen anyone play it the way he did. Nor will I. Great job on the documentary!!

People always talk about stat spreads and rings and all that,but I followed Jordan through HIS WHOLE CAREER starting in NC. It's more than numbers. It's about the natural ability and doing never before seen shots. You can go anywhere in the world I bet and they know this man's name. I saw a documentary on Bushmen of Africa around 02 and the interpreter had on a Team Jordan Tee and Nike slides. Never forget what this man has done for the game that everyone from everywhere and all walks of life loves so much.

Word of advice if you want to take it or leave it do as you wish.
If you decide to go to school go to a trade school, don't waste your money or your time with a regular school. I'd recommend you don't go to schoo and find a man of value much older than you that's over the age of 35 and well-established.
Women hit the wall how around 30 nowadays men don't want anything to do with those women in long-term relationships not men of high value for that matter. The reason for that is because these women have already been riding bananas for all those years and they can't pair bond anymore not only that they're going to school and become more masculine less submissive and less feminine. Also career women want guys that are at their level or higher but the guys at the higher levels don't want nothing to do with them for all the reasons above and they can get younger women that will submit and let him lead and have a great life.
Most of the women back in the day were virgins when they got married and they were able to pair bond with their husbands after having sex for the first time and ended up having a wonderful marriages but it doesn't happen nowadays. I was born during that short period of time when Mike was playing baseball, then I didn't get cable in my home until late 99. So I never got to see him play in his prime. He was only a legend that the older kids talked about. I remember being stoked when he started playing for the Wizards, I couldn't believe I was finally able to see him play. It was far from the greatness of his time in Chicago, but as an 8/9 year old that I was I loved it. I still have a lot of fondness for that time and I have a very vivid memory of that last game he played.

keep in mind the Wizards (01-02) were actually on pace to not only make the playoff, but could have climbed to at least the 4th seed or even the 3rd seed in the east.The Wizards were 26-21 at the time MJ went down early Feb that game vs the Kings after a 21-11 record from Dec to that point. They were beating teams like Pacers, Magic, Hornets, Nets, Mavs, Kings, during the stretch in Dec and Jan. It was scary how a 38 yr old was still dominating most of the players half his age. No one, and i mean no one other than MJ could've done this for the Wizards at that time.
and after watching The Last Dance, you realize the 2 years as the Wizards was what he wanted not to tarnish his career, but to challenge himself to maybe fill a void that he wanted someone to knock him off the pedestal.

I think that's where most retiring legends get their final points right? Usually the opposing team intentionally fouls as a show of respect to let them get their final points (if they're in a position of knowing it's their 100% for sure last game, like Kobe, Jordan, Barkley). Not so much with players like Iverson or Tmac, who sort of just fade off into retirement.

I don't want to start a MJ vs LBJ debate. But for everyone who says Lebron carried a bad team and MJ never did. A team with 18 wins and last in defence and 2nd last in NBA, with one major addition (39 year old MJ) finished with 18 more wins (with MJ only playing 60 of 82 games) and was 6th best defence in the league (before his injury). And just missing playoffs while only playing 3/4 of the season. Imagine he played the whole season? How is that not carrying a team. And that is at 39!! Not prime years. So impressive MJ is as an athlete and competitor.
Mj carried 80s bulls teams. That was one of the worst teams in the league before Jordan made them a contender.
And that was all with no other all stars. I thought RIP Hamilton only won One chip with pistons not 2. But Let's see lebron at 41 and see if he can have 50 even 40 point games. Ain't gonna happen. That Wizards team was hand picked by Jordan including the number one pick in the draft. He had another member of the Dream Team with him, multiple players that had just won NCAA championships, all stars, a former Bulls teammate, a defensive specialist that he played against in the finals, and his old Coach from Chicago. The best team in the East both seasons only won 50 games but he couldn't even take a team with all that talent to the 8 seed or a winning record 🤷

As a 6’2” white kid who could dunk the ball in high school I always felt something very special about that. Now at almost 45 I can hardly grab the rim. Old age can really break your spirits. What Michael did post Bulls was a celebration of life and the game.

He was racking up 25.2 ppg until that injury and was getting better as time progressed. The last 20 games before the injury he put up 27.5 and the last 10 games before the injury happened, he was averaging 29.7 ppg along with 6.6 assists and 6.1 rebounds - those stats were nearly identical to his years with the Bulls

I moved to the states in 1996 and I remember being 6 years old watching my first nba game Chicago bulls vs the New York Knicks and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw Jordan get the ball every time he would something that either none of the players could do or he was just a basketball playing machine made to look like a dude being around for the last 3 peat and then the wizards years when I started to really fall in love with the game of basketball (baseball is always my first love) TMac is my favorite player of all time he was my favorite growing up in the late 90s early 00s

I remember walking into my aunts living room when I was a kid where all my family and friends were gathered around watching that all star game. I knew of Michael but I didn’t really know why or how he was so legendary until he hit that fade away at the end and everyone in the room jumped in unison. I became a fan of Jordan that day and delved deeper into his accolades to try to understand how a man could be nicknamed air.
No lie when real friends beat came on I started tearing up . I could only imagine being able to watch Michaels career in person . I was born in 96 about an hour from Chicago and his affect on everyone in the the area is insane. I would trade anything to be born 10-15 years earlier just to see the real goat in his prime .
